esskay77 got a reaction from Lily66 in Ritz Crackers
Ritz crackers are not ok. Not at your stage and not ever. They won't kill you but you should not be eating crackers of any sort.
And, you are not eating enough!! Though don't focus on calories. Focus on Grams of Protein, Fats, Carbs that you should have been told to follow, though I get that not everyone has.
postop diet is 60 to 80 grams of protein, 30 grams of fats, and no more than 100 grams of carbs.
1 oz of chicken or protein = 7 grams

You need to eat but you need to eat right. This is the time for you to develop good eating habits. If you are following bad habits now, you are setting yourself up for failure later. Trust me -- been there, done that and now trying to get rid of the regain
    Best of luck!

esskay77 got a reaction from Lily66 in Craving A Big Salad! When? How much?
It will depend on how well you tolerate lettuce and whatever else you put in your salad, once you are on solid food of course. However, the word "big" shouldn't apply any longer. You will be able to have salads but hopefully you won't be having big salads. I'm about 6 years out and still find them uncomfortable if it is too big (about 1 cup of lettuce should be enough). And my "too big" is so different from before surgery! lol You will have a lot of cravings in the beginning, then they dsappear for a while as you are on solid foods. And then they come back. lol.

I have recently discovered BariatricEating.com and they have amazing tasting Protein shakes!! The chocolate salted caramel is my favorite.
Also, you can get the "juice" type of protein powder drinks, too. I had Fuzzy Navel that I really liked. It is the Syntrax Nectar.
Try those out. I think you will like them.

I had RNY and couldn't eat lettuce and such for quite a while. You may want to back off salad temporarily? You'll eventually be able to but it's early days yet and your body is still healing. They don't call it "roughage" for nothing!

Going down to such low calories scares me a bit but I do need to scale back.
I'm thinking of doing the official pouch re-set 5-day diet to see what happens. I did it once but it didn't seem to have too much value but maybe trying it again isn't so bad.
I did stop tracking my food so maybe I need to do that again, too.

Eat the Soup, Order other things but like someone said, just move it around on your plate, if anyone asks, say that surprisingly the soup really filled you up more than you expected or maybe you aren't feeling well. But don't offer that up, only if someone notices. I work with so many people that all have different dietary requirements these days so you might not stick out as much as you think. Best of luck!

Someone mentioned the Intermittent Fasting. I'm not really sure about that one but only because I don't know enough about it. There is also the 5 Day Pouch Test to sort of reset. http://www.5daypouchtest.com/plan/days1_2.html
Note that it is meant for only 5 days.
Then get back to basics though it sounds like you don't have the basics.
Let me see if I remember them.
    Drink a LOT of Water.
Stop drinking 30 minutes before your meal.
Don't drink anything during your meal.
Start drinking water 30 minutes AFTER your meal.
Your meal should be about 30 minutes. Not longer. Take your time.
Strive for 70-100 grams of Protein per day (1 oz of meat - 7 grams of protein if I remember correctly). I can't seem to open my file right now but there is also a standard for grams of Fat and grams of Carbs per day. I'll repost when I can get to it.
ALWAYS eat protein first. Lean protein is best.
When you eat, cut your food into pea-size bites and chew chew chew.
Put your utensils down between bites.
    Breathe.
    Exercise.

Those are the things i can think of for now.
Best of luck and I hope to join you on trying to get it all back!

I really like that you are listening to your body. It's also way too soon to be doing IF anyway. Once you are about 2 years out, you should try it then. The magic of WLS will have dissipated and that is when you need to dig deep. See you then and best of luck!!

esskay77 got a reaction from sillykitty in Keto Diet with weight loss surgery - What are your thoughts about it?
Regarding doing restrictive dieting after WLS. It's important to note that WLS is just a tool and really only works the first year or 2. The rest is up to you and in fact, if you don't find some restrictive way of eating, or at least eating based on the plan they provide, you will gain weight back. You could potentially gain a LOT of weight back. Really really easily. Scarily easily. So, while the idea of Keto, etc. make me nervous, at the very least, it is keeping you aware of what you are eating or should be eating and that is a good thing.

So, what does this mean for you? What will you eat and what will you not eat? I haven't gotten that far yet to figure that out. The eating anything in moderation isn't working for me at all.

esskay77 got a reaction from meljbolles in how do I make myself try new foods?
It is really hard but doable! And just because you don't like something the first time, if you keep giving it a try, you may acquire a taste for it, whatever "it" is. But... in the meantime, the fact that you like brocolli and Beans is a great start. Really good for you.
Do you like chicken? Turkey? If so, there are a billion recipes for chicken. And anything that I used to make with ground beef, I now do with ground turkey. And love it! Meatloaf for example.
There are Pasta substitutions, though they also may be an acquired taste. You've heard of Zoodles? THese are "noodles" made from zuchinni. You can get the spiralizer anywhere, especially Bed Bath and Beyond. There is also spaghetti squash. You make these and then put whatever sauce you normally put on your pasta. Now, keep i mind, they aren't exactly like pasta but I know what I discovered is that it really isn't the pasta I like, it is the sauce. Which really helps.
I'm betting you don't like to cook? If that is true, you should learn to cook or take some cooking classes to take you to that next level.
I know that there are some good recipes out there that are really tasty, even for picky eaters.
Try this recipe. It is perfect during the puree stage but also later:
    Baked Ricotta with Marinara
This is the one that everyone RAVES about!

    8 oz of ricotta cheese
    ½ cup grated Parmesan
    1 large egg, beaten
    1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
    Salt & pepper to taste
    ½ cup marinara sauce
    ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Pour marinara on top and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake it in the oven @ 450 for about 20-25 minutes (best) or nuke it till hot and bubbly.
