Keto

Just curious of any long timers that do Ketigenic diets. My nutritionists says they do not recommend it for bariatric patients. I am curious if anyone does the Keto lifestyle and if it works. I am 3 1/2 years post Gastric Sleeve and need to lose more weight. Any thoughts?

I have considered it but haven't tried it yet. I also have more to lose.

Did your NUT say WHY? I think my NUT also doesn't recommend it but I don't know why for her either. Other than she just keeps saying you can eat anything you want, just in moderation. Which makes me crazy. lol

No she really say but I think after doing the same things for this amount of time and not reaching goal I am going to try it and see what happens.

L.OL I was thinking the same thing.

So, what does this mean for you? What will you eat and what will you not eat? I haven't gotten that far yet to figure that out. The eating anything in moderation isn't working for me at all.

Basically lower carbs, no sugar, breads, starches things we really eat alot of anyway

So, the way we were eating before? lol. That is what I took from it.

Let us know how it goes for you.I think after this weekend, I'm going to try that.

Thanks

yeah, because we're all so good at THAT!

Right? I hate when naturally skinny people try to tell us how to eat. "Just stop eating" "Have 3 almonds" lol

True Keto is very high fat (like >70 grams), moderate carb (30-45 grams) and very low carb (<20) a day. I am 4 years out and have been Keto for a while. My surgeon and docs are all for it, I used this to conquer some regain and also to resolve a health issue.

It is quite different from a 'bariatric' diet. I don't drink milk or eat yogurt anymore, I follow the rules of keto, I eat my macros calculated out for me. They change as my weight goes down. I also incorporate Intermittent Fasting which also has made a huge difference. I will probably eat this way forever. There are tons of resources out there, especially on youtube and there are substitutes for EVERYTHING, but I try to stick to a very basic food list.

Thank you for the input. I started it yesterday so I hope it gets the rest of my weight off. The only thing that surprised me was the amount of calories my macro says to eat, but I'm gonna give it a shot.

Why no yogurt? But whipping cream is fine. Aren't they based on the same thing?

I am having re-gain and really need help. Am thinking of trying this but not sure how to go about it. Not sure what to eat and why or what not to eat. Can you sort of outline a typical week or several days worth of menus? That would be awesome.

So far it's going good. Tested this morning and I am in the small Ketosis range so I'm getting there.

Hi I joined a Bariatric Keto group on fb and you can pay for a session and it costs 19.99 and they give you your macros and give alot of info. I have been doing it for two weeks and am losing again.

I am 18 months post op and am about 20 lbs away from my goal. I like where I'm at but would love to lose the last 20 lbs. I am seriously considering doing keto but am curious what that looks like over the course of a day.

Current keto eaters: Can you list what your meals and snacks are in a typical day? Also do any of you do intermittent fasting along with it?

  • 2 weeks later...

I do IF (intermittent fasting) as well as a low carb approach. It is "defacto" keto, even though I some days eat 40-50g of total carbs, my net (minus fiber) may be between 25-30g net carbs. I can assure you I am in ketosis. :) I do keep my fat lower cuz I don't tolerate it very well right now.

I met 1st goal (150lbs) at 8.5 months and am 9lbs away from 2nd goal. I hope to reach that in about 30-45 days. Then beyond to Goal #3 which will be end goal and I don't know where that will end up. I hope somewhere around 125-130lbs. I eat about 2 meals per day, sometimes 1, sometimes 2 meals + small snack.

Here was yesterday's plan. It was whacky. I normally have way more veg on there and usually have a daily salad, but I'd fasted for 39hours the day before and was very hungry for fat and protein--so I ate it:
