My "revised" stomach is two years, four months post-op. I knew making the commitment to have "weight lose" surgery wasn't a fix all. I knew it was going to be a tool for me to utilize for the rest of my life. My overeating began at a young-age after being traumatized by some abuvise events. It was a therapist that helped me identify the root of my eating some months prior to surgery. The thickness of my body had become a false sense of security and the heavier I became, the more my hormones became out of whack. The more weight that dissolved, the more a portion of my brain panicked. The fat, pretty, funny girl was disappearing and I would have to learn to live without hiding behind her. Back to the therapist I went.

Choosing to have a weight lose surgery is a journey that will test your own personal strength. No one can tell you how you will feel, the emotions that will consume you at times, etc. Educate yourself on post operative care, know your mental health resources, and understand that a bariatric alteration to your body is a tool. Nothing more, nothing less.
