    African American vsgers!

Hello Everyone, I am reading all of your posts/messages and responses... I would like to say congratulations to each and everyone of you on the courageous decision to have surgery. I was sleeved back on 2/27/2014 (under extreme duress) I went through a few hospital stays 4 (dehydration and subsequently learned that I am allergic to artificial sweeteners) I wanted to tell you all to be encouraged and truly work the process, give yourselves a chance, go at your own pace and watch the results! You will hit quite a few stalls and some will last for a few weeks at a time, but do not get discouraged, your body is simply trying to react to the rapid changes that it is going through. I was able to reach my goal in 8 months and 29 days after surgery 104 lbs lost!!!! what!!! yes!!!! Now, I am 5lbs past my goal !!!! I deal with the extreme physical changes that I see, some days are good and some are different, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. My quality of life and the ability to experience it at this size is priceless...I am still me, same woman...different size, I love it! Many blessings too all of you

    Does everyone experience hairloss?

I was gravely afraid that I too would lose my hair after surgery...seeing that I have very thin and fine hair, my surgeon stressed the importance of Protein intake 60-80 grams per day. I made sure that I hit that mark, if it doesn't have protein, I simply do not consume it period. 9 months later, my hair is still in tact and I have not suffered any loss. best wishes to you

    Pain and Energy

You sound an awful lot like me when I 1st had surgery I dropped 30lbs in 26 days and had virtually no energy. Eat your Protein and be sure to exercise(you will be surprised to see how much this aides in healing and energy) The pain will subside in about a week or two, please be sure to get your protein in...take your time and nap when your energy is low. I am 13wks out now and though I feel tired during the day at times, I find it hard to nap. Things will balance out as the days and times go on BEST WISHES TO YOU

    Everything makes me nauseated

Some people have a very difficult time with Fluid and food intake, I am 13 wks post op and I still have pretty severe nausea. I am still in between soft foods and some solids. 3 wks post op, I could barely keep popsicles down....the reintroduction of foods in phases is to give your staple line time to heal and to also allow your stomach the adjustment to food once again. Good Luck

    Sitting next to my mom.....

I chose to tell only a selected few prior to surgery , I am 13wks out and I have still kept it to myself. I discuss it with other sleevers or bypass patients... it just seems to be entirely too many questions, answers and explaining

    Constipated

I have been battling this same issue since my surgery 02/27/2014. I was finally referred to a gastroenterologist 05/12/2014 I was advised that I need to try a regiment of miralax (2 cap fulls daily) and also ex lax or an enema every 3 days

    What am I feeling?

When you have surgery they blow gas into your abdomen to allow for your organs to be manipulated without injury and for better sight. Please be sure to take the GAS X strips(dissolve) as it will help with the gas pains and be sure to walk around and pass the gas or it will nestle in your shoulders and hurt like hell

    What am I feeling?

they should have sent you home on a ppi (protonix, Prilosec, nexuim) that is reflux that happens after surgery. It is essential to take that and the gas x as it will render GREAT results against the bloating and reflux. Best wishes to you
  17. I too had food dreams the 1st 2 weeks post op... I would eat solid food in my dreams and wake up in a panic that I had sabotaged my surgery and my sleeve. The good thing is that it went away and I have literally had head hunger once or twice in the past 7 wks!!! Best wishes to you
  18. Omg, my nose has been running when I stand up or walk! This has been happening since the day after surgery(2 wks ago)

    Medication Post-Surgery

Most of the medication post op is in liquid, chewable or bilingual form....I hear that some people crush pain meds(those who were not prescribed liquid) but it's solely at the discretion of your surgeon as to what medication you take for the 1st 6wks. Best wishes to you

    Risk of adhesions?

GOOD AFTERNOON, From what I was advised when asking that very same question VSG would be the optimal choice as far as surgery for weight loss. I know that they do laparoscopic (which reduces the risk of adhesions). I have a friend that had 14 abdominal surgeries(with adhesions and scar tissue) prior to having VSG and that was the ONLY surgery recommended. 2yrs later and she has not complained of complications. I would seek a surgical consult with a bariatric surgeon ...best wishes

Bronchitis - 1 week before surgery! WTH?

Absolutely it can, that is a major impedance of the diaphragm and lungs. I'm not certain that they will put you under... wishing you the best and feel better soon
  22. OK, I am 6 days post op and I have been following the restrictions for the clear liquid phase these past 5 days...my post op instructions indicate that I should be starting the full liquid phase and incorporating the proteins into my "meals". Wanting to adhere, I proceeded this morning to make a 1/4 cup of thin and soupy cream of wheat(using skim milk and a whisk). After consuming 4 baby spoons full, I got COMPLETELY ILL!! DIZZY, NAUSEA, FEELING THAT THE FOOD WAS STUCK AND EVENTUALLY VOMITTING. UGH! This is a feeling that I do not want to experience again. Has anyone else had a similar effect when transitioning between phases? I left a message with the nurse, but I am waiting for the return call. I am thinking that I was not ready for something so "heavy" I have tried the sugar free pudding, Jell-O, popsicles and I can even drink 11oz of premier protein over a 3 hr. time span...Am I doing something wrong here? Any input would be appreciated
