  1. I thought about that, but the whole reason I wanted plication is that I didn't want a foreign object in me. My best friend had the band and had to get it removed. It worked for her, but she was miserable and it eventually gave her ulcers so she didn't have a choice. For me, the plication alone worked fine.
  2. I had my initial plication surgery with Dr. Ortiz. Everything was great while I was there, but when I needed some post-op support, it was like a black hole. I ended up having revision surgery with Dr. Waldrep in Thousand Oaks, CA. The cost of surgery was almost on par with Mexico (about $1500 more and didn't have travel costs.) Now I am totally happy with my plication and have reached my goal weight in 5 months. I would recommend spending a little more and going with a top notch surgeon who will be available to help you if something comes up.
  3. I had plication surgery with Dr. Waldrep and was walking two miles on day 4 of recovery. Never needed any pain meds.

    Stomach getting larger

My doctor (Donald Waldrep in Thousand Oaks, CA) told me the cool thing about plication is that you can always add another fold down the road if you need more restriction.
  5. YES! I had plication surgery with Dr. Waldrep. I love, love, love him!! I kept putting off the surgery (I actually cancelled my first one 48 hours prior to my first scheduled date.) He was never impatient or pushy and took tons of time answering my questions. I am 5 months out and at my target weight. My recovery was pretty easy. I went home the same day and slept until the next morning. When I woke up, I felt tired, but no pain. Over the next couple days, I had some reflux and was a little tired, but still no pain. On day 4, I walked two miles with the dog. I'm not sure what he does that is different, but his patients seem to recover quickly without complications. I know he also does other types of surgeries like sleeve, band, etc., but based on my experience, I would do plication with Dr. Waldrep.
  6. I had gastric plication with Dr. Ortiz about a year ago. I felt very comfortable with the facility, staff, etc. But, afterwards I was still hungry--like all the time. My general doctor suggested I get a test (can't remember the name, but you swallow barium and they can see the stomach) to make sure my stomach hadn't opened. What it showed was that the stomach wasn't in the shape of a banana, but the top part was completely open and the stitches started from the middle down. That's why I was still feeling hunger. I send the CD of the images to Dr. Ortiz per his staff's instructions and heard absolutely nothing back. Nothing. Apparently they are great but you better hope there are no complications because you won't get any support. I ended up having a plication revision with Dr. Waldrep in Thousand Oaks, CA. He folded the top part that Dr. Ortiz left open and added another fold. And, there was constant support, including a call from Dr. Waldrep every couple of days to check on my progress. Even though revision surgery is usually more complicated, the cost was almost on par with Mexico, so I really wish I had just had the procedure with Dr. Waldrep to begin with.
  7. Hello. I am new to this forum. I am scheduled to have gastric plication on Feb. 13 and my paranoia is setting in. Am I going to spend the rest of my life worried that if I make a wrong move, my stitches will bust open? I love doing pilates (which of course, focuses on strengthening the core--lots of leg lifts and ab work), riding my horse (always potential for falling off) and other activities. Is anyone out there who has had the surgery finding that you are worried about activities because you're afraid of opening up the stitches? Thanks.
