    Sick of hearing......

What makes me angry is this is discrimination, how they make other people feel. I tried Zumba and went to several classes, only to be singled out after the class by the instructor. She wanted my name and telephone number, to put me in touch with someone who had helped her. The penny dropped, she thought I needed to shed some weight. I couldn't believe her, I had lost 38lbs by then, without her friend! AND what if I didn't want to diet? REALLY!!! needless to say I lost my courage, and have not returned. To make things worse, the pretty little things at the front of the class started giggling and whispering. I felt like saying I'm fat, not hard of hearing. These people are poorly educated, let's hope they don't catch the fat bug hey?

Dearest Madam Reverie I shall give this a try. With all the sweetness and charm I can muster, well, maybe a bit more that that.... Thank you for your advise. The timing is really important, my work is really physical and there's only the two of us, working very long hours, so, that's why I'm so eager, not just impatient to get this done. But as Willow reminds me, looks like I'm in for the long haul. Hope I don't have to wait till November Going to go and practice being nice to my husband

Ahhh Willow.... what can I say, well I was hoping to be sorted and up and running by May. My busiest time is from May till the end of October. It could mean that I'll have to postpone until then. I really hope not. You know, it takes quite a while to come to the point where there really is only one option, and when you take that leap, you don't want to be shoved back do you? Well I'm glad you're keeping both my feet o the ground with this. Hey, maybe there's someone like me that has to postpone and I could take their place? I do get what you mean, and thanks for that, don't build my hopes up. Of course I'll let you know how it goes, and keep me informed on your progress too will you? Did you have to do the 'Weigh Ahead Programme'? Best wishes to you

The new man in the mirror..........

What an emotional story, and to think us pre opers have all this to look forward to. Inspiring. Well done to you, (and your wife). When we've lost weight before and look in the mirror it's as if the connection between our eyes and our brain has been cut. Much the same as an anorexic, they don't see the weight loss, neither do we. But that's in the past now for you, and yeah, keep up the good work!

    Just wondering

Hi Nancy, where I live, in the UK, the new referral system on the NHS includes 'The Weigh Ahead' Programme. This includes seeing a dietician, psychologist (with a referral to the mental health team if necessary) and other professionals if needed for a six month period. If you reach your targets you get referred to Bariatric Surgeons, where you are assessed again. At the time I considered it a nightmare and was thinking self funding. But I must say after coming through that and having my first appointment with the Bariatric Team I feel more equipped for the procedure and my success. This seems to reflect a little of your thoughts. Hope everything works out for you, and yes Leepers is right, the support here is invaluable.....

Hi Jo Keeping up with the Water Workout and walking, but having a look at Danceatomic (Drop it low), and when I pick up the pace I'll go to Danceatomic, The sleeve seems to be getting more popular, and hearing stories like yours is inspiring..... I must admit I'm allowing myself to start getting a bit excited now, rather than over thinking everything. Bit of a control freak really..... Your photos are fabulous, what a transformation...... you must be so pleased. Hopefully I will have the last laugh. Many thanks for your support, cheered me up no end X

    An Introduction

It certainly seems that everyone on this site has addictions, also that we have had not such a good time in our pasts, or presents. BUT we are doing something about it, that's the important thing to me, also, that I'm not alone here..... You're right, unless you've got it, you don't get it.... You know the comments, you JUST need to eat less and move more, you're uneducated, you're lazy, you're crazy, you're full of excuses. They are NOT excuses, they are REASONS. I'm here not to judge, but to find and give support. Hopefully you'll find the same, good luck to you Nancy, most people here understand totally. X

Hi uk sleevers from here in kent

Hi Deb, Just a thought but why Kings? My daughter had a bypass at Chichester a year ago, has lost 12 stone, and doing really well. Loads of people there from Medway. From first seeing the consultant it took just shy of five months for the operation. The care was second to none. As I say, just a thought X

    Any new uk sleevers 2013

Hi everyone, I've been seen by the consultant and he recommends a sleeve, although I'd set my mind on the bypass. The info I've read says that the sleeve is either very successful, or treated as a step towards the bypass, for people with complications (mine being a hernia) or too big for the bypass. I have taken so long to come to the stage where I am admitting to myself that no, I can't diet and keep it off. Having gone this far, researching the best options and then asking for, and fighting for, a procedure, now to be told that is not the best option for me. I'm partly upset, but reading others outcomes, resigned that it'll be ok, but then doctors know best, don't they? Can't wait to look, and be treated as a 'normal person'. I've been through the weigh ahead, nightmare, seen the consultant, waiting for my next appointment, to see the dietician and anesthetist. The consultant guesses that I'll have my op around end of March / early April time. Can't wait. Been Water workout to get fitness levels up, and increasing my walking, although I usually do my 10k steps a day anyway. Went to Zumba, what an experience, everyone dead skinny, and they all know the steps. After the class the instructor came up to me and asked for my phone number??? Then it clicked, poor soul needs educating??? I asked why do you need my number? She said I'll put you in touch with someone that helps me..... I've lost a stone....... My face must have given away what I was thinking, so, needless to say, I'll not be going back there.... mortified..... to make it worse, even though I'm overweight, my ears still work, the click of pretty little things at the front of the class had a great giggle...... One day my time will come, when I can go and exercise and enjoy it.

    Help

Hi everyone, new here, so worried, been referred for WLS, consultant recommending sleeve. My worry is that I have heard that the sleeve is not so effective as the bypass. Want to be healthy, and more active, don't want to fail. Fed up been judged, and a great source of entertainment to others. Anyone have worries???

    Help

Hi and thanks for your comments. Not much in way of seminars, or support where I live. More support here. My daughter had bypass and doing really well ( a year ago ) and has lost 12 stone (168 lb) so, you can see why I was disappointed.... However, great to hear your good news, and two of you together, great for understanding and meal times too. Many thanks
