Mr.sleeve reacted to Chele H in What happens if you dont drink protein?
Premier Protein is 160 calories and 30 grams of Protein. My surgeon said that protein is 4 calories per gram so of the 160 calories in the drink, 120 of them is protein making it an excellent choice in his opinion.

Mr.sleeve reacted to MegaBob in I hate not drinking while I eat.
There are two mistakes I make every now and then. The biggest problem is that I eat too quickly and end up feeling bad for about 30 minutes. I constantly have to remind myself to slow down. The second problem is drinking before during or right after eating. I get full too quickly then find myself "hungry" or wanting to eat before I am scheduled for the next meal or snack. It only takes a few times of over-filling your stomach with Water after food to remember to wait to drink.
I also prefer to take a big mouthful of Water, it just feels better for some reason. I then realize that it is too much to swallow at one time and either spit it out or have to let it trickle down my throat. I have to remind myself to sip sip sip.
so. long story short is drinking while eating is not as fun as you think. LOL

Mr.sleeve reacted to piercedqt78 in Not a good day.
Don't stress about one day of "wrong foods" we all have days where we make less than perfect choices. I know I for one have had some horrible food days, but I bet even making bad choices you still ate 80% less then you would have pre-surgery. Think of it like this, last night I had 2 oreo Cookies, presurgery I would have had 2 ROWS of oreo Cookies. So my bad choice was still less than a full serving, I satisfied my sweet craving, and guess what I'm still down 126 pounds. I got up this morning, and I'm still at goal, my size 4 pants still fit me, and my world didn't collapse around me. I had my sleeve done, to get the weight off, not to have to eat "diet food" the rest of my life. If I was able to make perfect food choices 100% of the time I wouldn't have needed the sleeve to begin with. So give yourself a break, take a deep breath, and know that a "bad food choice" here and there isn't a deal breaker. Don't add to your stress by freaking out over every non diet food you put in your body. I made it to my goal in less than a year, and I still eat things I crave. I make good choices 95% of the time. But I do occasionally have an ice cream, or a cupcake. And it hasn't derailed my progress at all.

I did the research prior going into the surgeons office. I was freaked out with the notion of bypass and the malabsorption issues, so i went with the sleeve. My surgeon said it was up to me ultimately decide and didn't push me one way or the other. With bypass there are many more restrictions, and for some that structure is good. (I too have a sweet tooth problem, but due to a family member I know having a really bad experience after bypass I opted against it). All I can say is just look at both procedures and make the determination that way.

If my stomach ends up looking like Bieber, I'm suing somebody!
I am going with the sleeve, for the same reasons listed above. I would rather have less disruption to my digestive system, if I can get away with it and still have positive results. I was initially looking at banding, but I finally decided against having an implant because my insurance doesn't cover it and I was afraid if I had problems later, they wouldn't pay for removal.
I kind of feel like there isn't really a "right" answer, and that different things work for different people. And I'm sure you'll figure out which is the best for you.

I had the sleeve and at least 2 ladies I work with have had bypass, we are all satisfied with the weight we have lost. I can say that weight loss seems to be easier for the ladies who had the bypass. But for me, I thought the bypass was too extreme, the thought of having my intestines rerouted and the requirement to take Vitamin supplements for the rest of my life was not appealing. The sleeve seemed less "extreme" and more like having a haircut - "Okay doc, just trim a little off the stomach. And can you make it look like Bieber's?" :-)

In the end, you have to go with what makes you feel the most comfortable.

    Hmm ok
My surgeon has done 22 sleeves and over 1000 lap bands. He has a 100% success rate so far with sleeves. Where it's considered the newer surgery, I actually found bariatric surgeons not having extensive experience. TRUST ME , I've been worried - but I'm far more concerned about my weight/health. He's had high success with the other bariatric surgeries. He's the head of the Surgical Weight Loss Specialist of Mass. Do your research and talk with some of his sleeve patients. Today was my pre op and he offered to connect me with some of his first patients.

Wasn't worried at all until the day of surgery. Like others, started to have a mini panic attack. I remember laying in the bed after I got my IV thinking, how the hell could I have let myself get to a point that I am laying here getting cut open and my stomach taken out? While I was committed to the change prior to surgery, that moment was the game changer for me. This surgery will be the best thing you ever do for yourself. Just keep that in mind when those doubts creep in and find your life changing moment that is goind to keep you going through this journey!

I was given a list of Vitamins and Protein shakes approved by my dr. I bought a supply of Vitamins from Bariatric Advantage, I figure I will used these until I have healed then use regular vitamins you can buy at any store. I have read a lot of people just use them. As for Protein drinks I have Premier Protein, GNC, and carnation low sugar, all of these are approved and are great tasting.

I have to agree with Belladonna723. You are the **** and he is acting like a douche. I can understand how someone going through the changes we all go through could bring up some odd feelings in one's significant other, but as a man his comments to you offend me. They show a complete lack of respect for you and a desire to just keep you down. I'm not one to tell people how to live their life, but you deserve better! Hopefully he can come around and treat you better. If not, then do whatever is best for you as you deserve so much more than that kind of treatment.

That's so incredibly disrepectful. I can't tell you what to do, and I don't know the details of your relationship, but I know I would not be okay with someone talking to me that way. I think you should re-evaulate your relationship, minimally.

No disrespect but dude sounds like a tool! His comments are very demeaning. Kick his ass to the curb. You need a partner who lifts you up not breaks you down... he isn't supportive... he sounds very insecure and when you 'lose the weight' it will get worse. My two cents for what it's worth. P.S You ARE the shit. Don't let any man convince you otherwise.

Mr.sleeve reacted to Recycled in Surgery February 19, 2014 How much do they expect you to lose pre op?
Truth is, every doc is different. If they didn't give you a specific amount, they are probably not concerned. The pre-op liquid diet is typically to shrink the liver, however you usually drop a few pounds as well.
    Good luck with your surgery.
