bigloser2014 got a reaction from BeagleLover in tips to keep a stall from bumming you out?
I would take batteries out of the scale or ask my daughters to hide the scale for 2-3 weeks. I always saw a loss after that! Seeing a big loss is always encouraging. I also chart my weight loss progress on Myfitnesspal. When in stall, I see what I have lost so far. The downward graph certainly lifts my spirits!
Believe in the program and continue to follow it! Even with multiple stalls and breaks, I am close almost 63 pounds down from my high weight! It does work!
Just keep on following the program.

From my personal experience: I have had time periods where I only lost 5-6 pounds in a month. For me, it works to zig zag the calories from 600-700 to a 1000 once in a while, just like your doctor said. In the last 2 days, I have eaten close to 1000 calories and lost 3 pounds since Sunday! I know I cannot eat a 1000 calories everyday but on the days I work out, I increase my carb intake before the workout and increase my calories too.
Find out what works for you. Sometimes metabolism needs a shock. Also, I have noticed that ever since I increased my Water intake to 80-100 oz a day, my stalls have become shorter in days and the losses have become bigger.
    Good luck!

    ex·cuse
    verb
    ikˈskyo͞oz/
    1. attempt to lessen the blame attaching to (a fault or offense); seek to defend or justify.

Just for the record, for ALL of you out there. You do not need an "excuse" to NOT do something, whether it be walking in a 5K or climbing on a treadmill. My 'excuse' - I have no interest, 'Nuff said.

Don't ever feel pressured or bullied, yes, BULLIED - don't ever feel 'less than' because you cannot or CHOOSE not to do what others do. Do not feel this is a competition. Do not feel if you aren't participating, you will be shunned or that you're an outcast. You are not.
We all must find the path that works best for us as we learn to maneuver our way through this tiny tummy business. Some of us are animals when it comes to walking, running and exercise - let me stop right here and say, many of these people are my friends, they know who they are and they know how much I respect and admire what they do. I am pretty sure I could not do what they do. I don't want to do what they do, but I sure love following their progress and dedication.
The point is, time and again I see a "What's your excuse?" and it rubs me the wrong way. Bullying rubs me the wrong way and it IS bullying, you can put lipstick on that pig, but it's still a pig. "What's your excuse" is NOT encouragement, it is NOT support, it is a dig to try and make you feel less than and that is NOT ok. Ever.

Hmm.. I did not make the connection until I read this. I am a little over 3 months post op and my tummy is very noisy all of a sudden for the last couple of days. I have also lost 3 pounds in last 4 days. That is a lot faster for me. My rate of loss had been slow so far.

Listen to what everyone else just said. You are taking a great risk. Throw all the bad food away. And start again from the next bite. Try to remember the behavior that got you where you are and the reasons you had this surgery. Be kind to yourself!

I used the cocktail straws. They are smaller and suck in less air. I used them to drink my Water in the early stages after my surgery.

I am down 50 pounds and many clothing sizes since March 4th surgery - no longer diabetic and off blood pressure medication. I feel fabulous and have so much energy!
Visited my grandsons last week in Florida and was the "nanny" for 4 days. We stayed in a hotel most of the time and while it was a little challenging food-wise, the room had a fridge so I stocked up on cheese sticks, hummus, bottled Water, Greek yogurt, etc. Breakfast was included but I stuck to my fat free plain Greek yogurt and added a little honey and almonds (courtesy of the hotel). I ran around with the children for four days and never got tired. No seat belt extender on the plane, walking was no effort - in fact I enjoyed it because it was exercise, I was able to cross my legs on the plane, etc. EVERYTHING was EFFORTLESS....................for the first time in forever I actually enjoyed the flights and everything.
I just cannot believe this new, glorious life...........................SO GOOD!

Thanks for posting Macman...lots of great info. We were sleeved about the same time and I think it's important for everyone to see that there's more than one way to be successful. Everyone has to find their own, personal "make it work" plan.
I was always very intimidated before surgery by reading all the posts from the trackers and fitbit folks that were so successful because I knew I wouldn't be able to do that. I just like to include my version so other newbies can see that they can be successful with "alternative plans"
    Great job!

So I am going to give you a different view than Kindle. If you look at our results both methods worked. I am not critical of not tracking. It depends on what you are comfortable with.
I track everything. I use My Fitness Pal and have a Fitbit to track activity. I felt like I had a lot to learn through this process, so I weighed and measured everything. Even though I hit my initial goal, I still track. It fits with my personality and quite frankly, I have been able to manage weight loss and not get stuck by upping calories, as needed. It works well for me.
From months 1-5 I kept carbs pretty low, under 50 a day. This seemed to be a sweet spot. I made sure I had at least 60 grams of Protein minimum. Fat wasn't a big concern at this time. During this period I averaged 40% Protein, 40% Fat and 20% carbs. Since I was exercising regularly, I upped calories every time weight loss slowed. As a general rule I do not eat potatoes, rice, bread or Pasta.
At month 5 I decided to up the carbs to 60-80 a day, by adding some whole grains. I needed to do this to have more energy for exercise. This actually reduced the fat percentage in my diet.
Right now, at 7 months out, I am at 1100-1200 a day. I am still at 40% Protein, 30% Carbs and 30% Fat. I would anticipate that as the exercise level continues to increase and I get to maintenance the Protein level will have to increase as I will need to exercise with greater intensity and frequency to maintain my weight

Seeing my 75 year old dad struggling with food obsession that has gotten worse over years. That's all he can think about all the time. He is just like any other drug addict. Doesn't care about anyone or anything as long as his addiction is taken care of. I could see myself in him a few years from now. Taking a 15 hour international flight on a window seat, I was spilling over into the next seat. The co-passenger gave me dirty looks the entire time. I did not even go to the bathroom for 15 hours because getting out and back in was very hard and would have been very embarrassing. I was scared of getting a blood clot. My legs went numb and were hurting. When she went to the bathroom a couple of times, I quickly got up to relieve my achy & numb legs. And I cried silently the entire way. Was hovering on the fence before this experience but by the time that plane landed, I was determined to change my life!
