I had surgery in Mexico, was not interested in playing games with my insurance. I have heard of lots of people "padding" their weight to get qualified. Stash rolls of quarters in your bra!
For every Mexico horror story, there is an American horror story!

My reflux is not a problem any more. However, the last few months have been rough. I have had another leak, a stent placed and then removed. And had a blood infection because if the pic line. Was put on a pic line and TPN because the surgeon had me NPO for the last 5weeks. No Water, no food. Period. He wants my stomach to heal completely before anything goes in it and that means no food or Water. It reduces the enzymes and stomach acid so leaks and fissures can heal.
I was a statistic as well. The 1% that had an issue, I just happen to have all of them.
The last 4 months have been Very difficult. I have never had ulcers or reflux before. Was relatively healthy except for the weight. So the last 4 months have been very difficult. I have spent a total of 30 days in the hospital.
However the last two weeks I have ft better than I have in months. So I am encouraged that I will be fine. I have lost a total of 130 pounds in 4 months. Insane.

Glad you finally got your infection cleared up. I actually passed on a research study because there was a 33% chance I would get the placebo and I wouldn't have been allowed to do a fecal transplant for at least 3 months if I wasn't cured with their infusion. Insurance would have paid to keep me on antibiotics, and I actually would have gotten a couple hundred dollars stipend from the research study. But I was all about the cure, so I forked out the cash and got new poo. Almost 4 weeks out from stopping vancomycin and so far so good!
BTW, both the infectious disease doctor and gastroenterologist think I probably got the C. diff from being on clindamycin for my tooth, not from going to Mexico. I talked to the doctors at OCC in TJ and they had not received any other reports of C. diff from patients that were there.

I know...I'm a vet tech and have done them before. Also done rumen transfaunation, so the procedure seemed quite logical and normal to me
And today is two weeks off antibiotics and so far so good.....!

So it's done! The colon prep part sucked bad, but the procedure was incredibly easy. IV catheter, vitals monitored, roll over with your knees bent, say nighty night and wake up 20 minutes later with new poo! For those interested in the technical, they infused 540 ml of donor stool slurry into my terminal ileum and cecum. And despite the destructive capabilities of C. Diff, my entire colon was beautiful with no damaged mucosa.
I've been on Clear liquids and prepping my colon (aka pooping my guts out) for two days, so needless to say I was starving. Headed straight for Arby's and devoured the innards of a ham and cheese.
The nurse I talked to said it's pretty much a 100% cure rate. Too bad the insurance companies can't get their heads out of their butts and start paying for it....may they all get C. diff!!

Thanks and Great analogy, Miss Mac! (I've got a BS in Marine Biology, so it's very fitting).
My PCP is actually very excited about the whole thing. He thinks this is all very " ground breaking" and feels they will be doing a lot more fecal transplants in the future for Crohn's Disease, IBD, and even obesity (they know skinny people have different GI flora than obese people). The bonus there is my donor is super thin...maybe all I needed was her poo instead of VSG.

It works kind of like this When you get a new aquarium - new glass tank, new gravel, new tank decorations, and new fish, you will have a very hard time getting a proper PH going for the fish to survive in new Water. UNLESS, you get a cup of gravel from the bottom of someone else's functioning aquarium. The bacterial cultures introduced into the new tank will multiply and bring up the bacterial balance needed for the fish to thrive.
I have heard of fecal transplant, but you are the first person I have heard of that is having the procedure. I wish you good luck and good health.

BlondeBanshee got a reaction from Texasmeg in 85% convinced. How do I get to 100%?
Odds and stats. I knew that I would suffer from multiple complications from being obese. The chances of complications with surgery were so small that the decision was obvious, I had to have the sleeve so I could have a decent life. food is fuel, not my friend, not my lover, not my family. I want to be here with my family. And I don't want them having to take care of me because I can not care for my own fat ass! Today I was on a plane and I had extra room in my seat! I did not eat cake at my sister in laws birthday lunch because I knew I was too full...who does that! Me! I am the person that never left any food on my plate, or yours and then I'd have dessert, and yours...not any more! If you have a broken leg you go get it fixed, I had a broken, sick, dis-eased relationship with food that was destroying my body, so I got it fixed. I was 100% sure what I was doing and had done did not work so I went with what statistically had better odds for success! Down over 50 lbs in 11 weeks!

Yes it will. The only safe sex post sleeve is in the ear. But that's only until you're completely healed up, start experiencing less restriction, and can tolerate all normal foods.
