SweetGeorgiaT got a reaction from Ariellestarr in How Much Do You Think Your Bazoombas Weigh?
She's not the only one. I know men with names for both parts. After I heard one guy refer to his genitals as "Heavy D & the boys" I figured there was nothing I could call my breasts that could even compare to that.

You are a dear sweet young thing, so let me give you some idea of how I, as a less sweet, take-no-prisoners, 50 something, respond to people who bring sh1t to my door...

Ahhh "The Easy Way Out" syndrome.
Yeah, tell them they need to go on a 2 week liquid diet, followed up by removal of 80% of their stomach, recover from surgery, start working out, figuring out how to eat with 80% of their stomach all while addressing food addiction and emotional problems.
Yeah, it's the easy way out...
Or maybe respond with something like, "That moment when you realize you thought you had a real friend then realize they judge a decision you made to better and prolong your life...CRUSHED."

Yes I do. According to the website, they have the same criteria (6 months & a psyc eval). Dr. B said it shouldn't be an issue. I'll just have to cover the other 20% *ouch!* I just feel so many emotions. I'm happy, excited, eager, nervous, & scared at the same time.

Thank you. I guess my biggest question is how long after your last appointment did you have to wait for your surgery date? Appointment #6 is in less than 2 weeks. And other than Sugar Busters, did you have to do a liquid diet prior to surgery? I've been reading some of the posts on here and I see a lot of people who had to do a liquid diet 2 weeks pre op.

Wow! That's great! There's a lady on the website named Jana (looking at your screen name) & she looks fantastic too! Once I looked at her a little closer, I realized we work in the same building... go figure! I'm excited... can't wait until I get a surgery date.

Thought about making a Georgia Bandsters Facebook page.....we can share pics, recipes, support, clothes etc. Also, maybe we can set up some events to get together with others who have had WLS in our local areas. Would anyone be interested in that?

That is awesome, Kyle. You look great! Keep up the good work! I am down 16 in the first 6 weeks. I am very happy with that. I will post a pic on here shortly so everyone can see my progress along the way as well.
SweetGeorgiaT: I am very excited for you. I am glad I had it done. Remember to walk as much as you can to get rid of the gas afterwards. And make sure you get your Water down everday. Those 2 things will help you out alot. You will do great!

Good luck, but this doesn't have to be goodbye! This is a WL community and although we have different procedures, encouragement and praise are universal.

Doctors no longer wanting to place a band is actually not a global phenomena, just to be clear. In Australia, lapbands are still routinely placed. I have concerns with anyone who talks about long term complications without context. "Complication" is such a subjective word. There may be more complications with lapband surgery (ranging from minor to major) but the ones experienced by sleevers are often more significant, and often require far more invasive surgery to rectify. I don't think any complication should be taken too lightly here. or the long term affects of both, not JUST in weight loss but overall health.

I don't think this is as simple a decision as someone saying 'go for it'. There are many factors to consider for both surgeries and these shouldn't be glossed over. These include complication rates, types of complications, ability to rectify complications, access to after-care, quality of aftercare, and as a veteran of WLS, the LONG term ramifications of WLS. It's hard to believe that concerns like 'i need to eat for health reasons' might be anything you might worry about now, but believe me when I say it's possible. I have had my band loosened when I was losing too much. Nice to have the option, but not something you think about when you're heavy and only just starting out. It's why, when my band developed a leak and I had the option of revising to another band or a sleeve, I chose another band. Because I weighed ALL the factors and came to the best decision for ME. Not you, not the guy next door, and not my insurance company or the doctor I happened to be seeing, but me.

I would go with whatever was suggested, mainly because you need the followup care and something in place in case of complications. If you can't get the band and after care covered, I'd go with the sleeve. I am pro-band and have friends with the sleeve and can honestly say I am biased. Because I am supportive of anyone who makes such a life-changing decision, I say go for it. You will be better off having it than not, just follow doctor's orders and question anything that doesn't seem normal to you. I have two friends with the sleeve, they have both been successful in losing their excess weight very quickly; the problem they are experiencing is the inability to STOP losing the weight. They are both well beyond their goals (22 and 27 lbs., respectively) and one is a walking skeleton whom I'm afraid to walk by too fast for fear of making her tip over.

I am young (30) and strong, no comorbidities and my BMI is 41 so I feel like this helped me be able to do it alone. The nurses were shocked at how well I bounced back, I asked to do a lap of the hospital floor a few hours post op thanks to Bandista's advice - waking really helps. The hospital staff is so used to really sick patients they do not push or expect someone to be up and waking a few hours later. But if you feel up to it - make your wants known and they will help you
