@Zoey716 Thank you so much!! I am sure I will be bugging you if you don't mind? A couple right off the back. Did you use the bariatric fusion shakes? I see you hospital stay was 3 days.. Cavaretta told me 2?

    3. Zoey716

      Zoey716

@alxmak1021 - I used bariatric fusion vanilla. It's best if you blend it in a blender. Comes out MUCH better. I also added sugar free flavored syrup (like coffee syrups). I also drank Pure Protein with added fiber. They sell them at Target for 7.99 (coupon in this weeks newspaper for $1 off!). They only have vanilla and chocolate and they are both good. The nutritional break down was pretty close to the fusion shakes so Synergy gave me the go ahead to split them. I drank half fusion and half pure protein.

I stayed in the hospital for 3 days because I had a bad reaction to the pain meds. I had horrible nausea and dry heaves for 2 1/2 days until we figured out it was the pain meds causing it. As soon as those stopped, I started to improve. I was also dealing with stomach spasms, which wasn't much fun. When i went home I was on anti nausea meds, a pill for the spasms, prilosec, and extra strength tylenol. Pills can be tough on your little sensitive tummy. Look for liquid extra strength tylenol. They sell it at CVS (their brand). Works great and it's one less pill to swallow! :)

@Zoey716 A friend of mine also suggested to buy the vanilla, so you can doctor it up a little with the syrups. I remember one of your posts saying that you were having a rough time but did not regret having it done. Thank you for being so helpful. :)

@Zoey716 I have read people use Almond milk as well. I have never tried it. Thank you! Jackie did say that with IHA they are usually pretty quick!!! Fingers crossed! 3 days is awesome!! Definately cuts back on the anxiety of waiting. Do you think that you will be able to make it to the class on the 24th? Thank you so much for answering my questions. it is so nice to have someone that goes to the same place. :)

      Zoey716

@alxmak1021 - I am going to try my best to be at the meeting. I'll be 10 days out, so I don't think I'll have a problem going. :) I have heard a lot of people like using almond milk. I'm allergic to it, so its a no go for me. lol. The blender really is the best way to make it though. A world of difference than just using a shaker bottle! I'll be praying for you that you hear back quickly! I called IHA a day after they submitted for authorization just to make sure it was received and if they were missing any info. Turned out they were missing one form, so I called Jackie and she sent it to IHA. I then followed up again with IHA a couple days later and got the approval & authorization #'s. It took Synergy longer to get back to me with the date, but if they know you on a time crunch hopefully they would schedule you quickly! Definitely call and follow up with them! And I agree, it is nice to meet people going through the same experiences especially through the same surgical group!!

This sounds like jealousy! Some people can't take the success of others. Also, because they fear things, like Crossfit, they have to bash it. Screw 'em! Nothing taste sweeter than success!

Take up kickboxing and kick their butts! I'm very impressed you're going to try CrossFit. It appears brutal to me! lol But if that's your game and what you want to at least try, GO FOR IT! Even if you try it and find it's too hard or you don't like it or whatever, you've burned way more calories just trying than they have by giving you a hard time!

My 15 yo son was (I thinking jokingly) making fun of me for having to walk some of the 5k run the other day. He said he would never "quit". I said I didn't "quit", I finished even if I had to walk some. He said walking was quitting. So, I told him walking/running was better than not starting and I had done WAY more than he did not even starting the race. He kind of quieted down then! lol

Do what makes YOU feel the best YOU!

Are you new to the Paleo world? There are SO many amazing cookbooks. My favorites include "Make it Paleo" by Bill Staley & Haley Mason, "Nom Nom Paleo" by Michelle Tam, and "The Paleo Kitchen" by Juli Bauer & George Bryant. Enjoy your journey!

      Smye

Also @Zoey716, I was paleo for 2 years prior to surgery (it was excellent, just not quite cutting it) and I have TONS of paleo recipes not on the blog that just don't go down so easy for me now but might fit your needs.

    4. Zoey716

      Zoey716

@lauren8486 & @Smye - I am fairly new to Paleo, however have been doing research and getting ideas for a while now. My crossfit gym is participating in a "Summertime" challenge ("Lurong Summertime Challenge"), and thought I'd join in. I am hoping this will help me push towards my goal as I am SO close.

Granted I'm only 2 days in, but so far so good and I am enjoying looking for idea's and recipes. :) I'll have to look for those books Lauren and through your website Smye. Thanks!! :) :)

The class was very informational tonight. I don't know why but a little nervous about food journaling. Although it will hold me accountable for my actions! One question that I have is have any of you ladies had to do any pulmonary testing? My doctor sent in the letter stating I don't have any cardiac problems and it did not include pulmonary. When I called the doctor and spoke to the secretary she seemed a little put out at that she had to write another letter.. i did get an EKG done. Am I missing another test? This is the only thing holding it up.

@alxmak1021 - I had a general dr's appointment yesterday. I go for my 6 month check up in a couple weeks! Hoping to be down a couple more lbs by then. @Ginger Snaps - I def weigh myself first thing in the morning (with nothing on...lol) and my appointment was at 4PM! So I know there was going to be a difference... but it was like a 6lbs difference! :/

    3. gowalking

      gowalking

It's just a number Zoey. Forget it. I have the same thing. The other day, I weighed myself also in the AM and with no clothes. My scale said 122 lbs. and when I went to the doctor, the scale was 126. Don't sweat it as long as the number keeps going down.

    4. maggiemayuk

      maggiemayuk

Just before I go to the hospital for my check-up I weight myself at home wearing the same clothes/shoes that I will wear while being weighed at the hospital. It so happens that their scales weigh lighter than mine by a couple of kilos usually and theirs should be more accurate so that gives me a boost!

@Stevehud & @ProjectMe - I have been doing crossfit for quite some time now. My box focuses on skill and strength before we go into a WOD (workout of the day). My box teaches proper technique, posture and accountability. Everything is modified to one's ability. They want us to be challenged but successful, and that has lead to my success there so far. I have zero reservations about stepping into my box, as I know I am getting the best coaching and instruction out there. I would encourage anyone who is slightly interested in giving CF a shot. I have built muscle, endurance and confidence in myself, that I have never had. #thisshitworks

    3. ProjectMe

      ProjectMe

@Zoey716. I was a collegiate athlete & can appreciate the challenge. Proper technique and instruction is definitely key to enjoying yourself and not getting hurt. There's a gym run by ex/retired military near my house and I can't wait to give it a try! Just waiting until I feel I am stronger as I'm only 4 weeks out from surgery.

    4. Stevehud

      Stevehud

im not putting it down, if it works, awesome! that's great, just saying. Im sure it varies with the instructors etc. as with any intense program a bad instructor can cause problems.

I don't have a trainer yet. I do cardio 4-5 days a week (walk, jog, elliptical etc) , and I do strength training at least 3-4 days a week. I have a decent knowledge of health and fitness (I have a degree in Health and Wellness), so I am good with my own routine currently. I may think about hiring a trainer in the next few months to help tone up some areas.

Try one of the couch to 5K programs. I have hesitated forever on doing it saying "I'm not a runner..." Turns out when you're dropping weight, running is a lot easier! I'm doing the Zombies, Run 5K program and so far in the first week it's very doable. You walk 10 minutes, alternate 15 seconds of running with 1 minute walking 10 times, then walk/run however you'd like the last 10 minutes. Most people can shuffle-run along for 15 seconds. I'm looking forward to amping it up on next weeks missions.

    4. Zoey716

      Zoey716

I'll have to look into that. I have thought about doing the couch to 5k but when I was close to 300lbs - just walking was a challenge at times. So now that I am down quite a bit - it may be a bit easier (maybe...lol). :) I did jog almost a quarter mile last night - TWICE! (did I feel like I was going to die after it - yes - but I kept moving with the rest of the race.
