I am 56 years old, lost close to 100 lbs in 2 years, and did a triathlon last September, so it is possible!!!

Lap band surgery was not an elective surgery for me. I was literally killing myself with every mouthful of food. I was committing slow suicide. Lap band surgery was as necessary as gall bladder or appendix removal. Eventually, I would have died from obesity related diseases. Lap band surgery gave me the opportunity to live a long and healthy life. Any surgery is obviously a risk, but I want to live a full life, and this was the way to do it. Seize this opportunity- you will be so glad you did. It's still hard work, but the results are worth it.

911dispatcher got a reaction from 2muchfun in 2 yrs in, no weight loss!
Please go back to your surgeon for a follow up. I lost 100 lbs over 2 years. I had my surgery the same time as you. I've gained back 20 lbs in the last 4 months. I don't feel any restriction either, so I am going back for.a fill tomorrow. I've got to get back on track. It's def a struggle- food vs exercise. Keep in touch - I need support too

Doing a sprint triathlon in September. That's 1/2 mile swim, 16 mile bike ride, and a 5k run (3.2 miles) . And I wore a triathalon suit- one piece tight and a regular size large!!!

911dispatcher got a reaction from ☠carolinagirl☠ in Any Regrets? I'm sooooo confused....
The band is a tool. You still have to work hard at weight loss even with the band. But there are a lot of people on this site that have been very successful at losing large amounts of weight, including me. You can feel the band through your skin, but it is not obvious, and over time, you don't even realize it is there. The band controls the quantity of food, but you still have to control the quality of food. Along with the band, I made a commitment to a healthy lifestyle- exercising and eating healthy foods. It works.

Any overweight person that really wants to lose weight has to find what works for them. Some people are very successful on Weight Watchers, for others it is Jenny Craig, some can do it own their own, etc. What works for one person won't necessarily work for another person. So for those of us that have had WLS, it's the program that works for us. It's a tool. And even with the lap band, we still have to exercise and eat healthy. One method of weight loss isn't better or worse than any other method if it results in success. So hold your head up high no matter what anyone says. You are accomplishing your goal- weight loss and a healthy lifestyle, which makes you a much happier person. And you don't need negative people in your life.
