My doctor says that gastric banding is a waste of time.
Failed - I'm so sorry that your surgery failed for you and left you so bitter. However, there are several of us who are seeing success. Several of us who are HAPPY with our surgeries. Several of us who appreciate actual, helpful conversation rather than hysteria and drama. Just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean that the rest of us in this forum are going to have the same experiences as you. So please ... share facts, numbers, and documentation. Please keep the hysterics to yourself or share only with others who are in your same boat. Because, in all honesty, I can't relate. Nor do I wish to. I would rather be supportive of those who are in this journey with me .. with those who accept that sometimes things don't work they way we want them to, but don't go all Drama Queen when we politely disagree. Have a great day.

Getting 'stuck' is THE worst feeling. EVER.
I've gotten stuck while eating soft breads, any kind of beef, a couple of rice dishes, and dry turkey and chicken breast. I take small bits, chew like crazy, but some things are just not allowed to be in my diet anymore. *hugs*

Success despite partner not being supportive
I'm so sorry that your spouse isn't being supportive. I can't say that mine isn't supportive, because he is ... and he's amazing. What I CAN say is that even with his support, I depend more on myself and this group than I do him. Yes, he's happy for me. Yes, he'll walk with me most nights. Yes, he's aware of my needs when we decide to go out for dinner. But no ... his support doesn't have an impact on my success because I'm the one who has to do it. I'm the one who has to push my backside out of the door for my walks. I'm the one who has to get off the couch to exercise. I'm the one who has to measure my meals. I'm the one who knows when I've had enough food. I'm the one who knows how much Protein I've eaten, and how much Water I've actually had to drink. So, while it's nice to hear him say "You are doing a great job, Baby." or "Where would you like to go for dinner?" .. the reality is that I own this. So .. own it. Don't listen to anything negative he has to say. Try not to let his apparent disinterest bother you so much. We are here for you.

White bread, wheat bread, whole grain
I've found that breads in general get stuck. It's *not* a happy feeling. Since I want to avoid that, I've stopped eating bread. I do, however, add ground flax and chia seeds to my breakfast protein shakes so that I can still get my fiber in.

Constipation & Fiber
I typically eat raisin bran at least once a day and that keeps things moving. I've stocked up on pureed prunes to get things moving again later this week, and once I'm back on real food, I'll have my raisin bran again.

Yeah ... it's all over the place.

Why have I been told to have my first fill at 5 weeks when I know people who have had it at 3?
My first fill was at 6 weeks. I was supposed to have another fill last week, but he wanted to wait until I recover from my upcoming gallbladder surgery. Don't stress. Instead, be grateful for the extra healing time and roll with it.

Port site pain????
Port site pain seems to come and go. I'm just over 2 months out, and every now and then I get a twinge.

Band yesterday horrible hiccups
OMG hiccups were my enemy! This now makes me nervous about next week. I'm having my gallbladder removed on Wednesday, and I'll have the same incisions I did for my lapband.

Say no to Lap-Band video
The woman in the video is really ... clueless. Listening to her makes me wonder how she got through the screening process.

My doctor says that gastric banding is a waste of time.
I'm feeling kind of spoiled now. My doc suggested the band and sleeve. I told him which one I preferred and why, and he agreed. I've also seen him at each appointment, and he's the one who does my fills.

Pain in upper abdomen
Day 3 of any surgery is always the worst day. You should start feeling better soon. If the pain doesn't start going away or if it gets much worse, go to the ER. Good luck!

Anyone out there near Elgin?
I'm *sort of* close to Elgin. As in, I'm in Aurora. How is everyone?

Sugar Free and Fat Free?
YES! I stay away from the processed crap as much as I can. It all tastes like plastic, rotten food, and chemicals.

Surgery Friday having horrible muscle spasms
I agree. 2 weeks is a LONG time to be on a clear liquid diet.

Insurance Needs More Info
The clinical information should be the documentation from your regular doctor and your surgeon showing medical necessity. I think.

Recommended vitamin/mineral supplements and protein shake brands?
Vitamins - I'm taking 2 Flintstone's vitamins a day. Everyone has a different preference due to taste, Dr recommendations, or tolerance. I'd suggest starting with the cheaper chewables (not gummies) and see if you can handle them. Remember, just because you can handle it pre-op, that doesn't mean you can handle it post-op. Protein shakes - Again, this varies by taste and Dr recommendations. For your pre-op diet, your surgeon might tell you that he wants you on a specific brand. It took me 3 days to get used to the one my surgeon's office had me on. Post-op, it has everything to do with your "new" taste buds. Personally, I like the Atkins Advantage Carb Control shakes. Do you remember having "pregnancy nose"? You get to have that back post-op. EVERYTHING smells and tastes a little different. But you get used to it. Good luck!

Banded yesterday????
Congratulations on your new band! I hope that you are feeling a little better today. Just remember that it takes about 2 weeks to feel "normal" again.

Examples of mushy foods
Believe it or not, the baby food veggies and fruits aren't terrible. I like the ones that have at least three things mixed in together. Also .. cottage cheese, Greek yogurts, and .. yeah .. the other things everyone else shared.

bandages and suture
Your doctor used silk sutures instead of dissolving sutures? When is your follow up with him/her?

Question
What you've described is exactly where my port is as well. You are perfectly normal. Also, don't be surprised if bumping into something reminds you that your port is there. I was moving stuff around the house last week, and bumped my tummy with a box. Immediately my body said "Hey, DUMMY! Stop beating on your port!" LOL!

Getting Stuck
What you are describing is VERY familiar to me. Take an antacid. I'd go with Pepcid or a generic version of the same thing. The one I'm taking is dual action. Try that for a couple of weeks and report your findings to your Dr. I had the same episode last night that you described. When I took my Pepcid, I could feel bubbling in my stoma. About 10 minutes after I took it, I let out a HUGE belch ... and felt 100% better.

Surgery and Cycle interruption?
Ladies .... How has your surgery and resulting weight loss impacted your monthly cycle? I'm asking because, I'm starting to think that maybe I shouldn't intarweb until after I finally have my period. The ONE downfall of this weight loss is the massive delay in my cycle. 47 days is way too long, and I'm REALLY F-ING BITCHY!
