MrsVanderbilt got a reaction from JengaBee in What Is (or Was) Holding You Back from Weight Loss Surgery?
I thought WLS was for only the super morbidly obese. I didn't know that you didn't have to be over 500 lbs to get WLS. When a family member suggested it I was really offended at first, but after some research I realized that it might be the right thing for me. Now I'm 30+ lbs lighter and off one of my blood pressure medications. Although I'm only 6 weeks out, I wish I would've gotten the sleeve sooner.

MrsVanderbilt got a reaction from ANewMe16 in Did you know Your Protein Drinks Can be Covered By Your Insurance?
I found several posts online that said Insure Nutrition is actually charging you (and your insurance) for the scar cream because insurance will not cover the drinks. Many people say their insurance has been charged $5000 for the scar cream. Just be sure to do your homework. Sometimes if it sounds too good to be true, it really is.

I'm not aware of anything you can do non surgically to fix that BUT don't waste your money on creams! Set that money aside for your procedure if that's what you decide on

MrsVanderbilt reacted to Mrs.RRn in My FL vacation :)
I spent the past week in Florida (my first real vacation since my VSG just over a year ago). We had a blast!!-- 1 week at Vero Beach and a couple days at Disney (Magic Kingdom).
I was surprised and excited to see how wonderful vacation is as an average sized person. I wore a bathing suit, played in the sand, kept up without getting out of breath, my feet didn't hurt, and it wasn't NEARLY as HOT as I remembered other vacations to be. LOL. I felt comfortable in my own skin & fit in all the rides -- I skipped my family's last trip to Disney bc I was embarrassed I wouldn't fit on some rides-- anyway-- It was AWESOME!
    So... About the food:
For the most part, I eat very well at home. Very few packaged food (only dairy, nuts, Protein supplements, and peanut butter)) and the rest of my diet is fresh produce and meats.
As for our trip, I decided to take a vacation from my way of eating while on vacation. I still focused on protein and ate small portions, but I went a little wild on my choices of Snacks at Magic Kingdom. My husband (who also follows a low carb/ high protein diet) says, "there's no rules on vacation!" LOL
My confession: at Disney I ate a Mickey icecream bar, a fruit smoothie, 5 French fries, and shared an icecream sundae with my husband. GASP! I also had 3 alcoholic beverages during my week (of which I can only drink about 1/3 ).
Confession continued: nothing tastes as good as I remembered. Nothing gave me the high it once did. I didn't crave it. I didn't love any of it. And afterwards, Those poor food choices made me feel tired & down... Just no energy. That trash did nothing good for my body.
Junk makes you feel like junk.
So I had a WONDERFUL vacation, but I'm happy to be back to my normal eating & drinking habits.
Here's a few pic of my trip along with some food & beverage choices. And a pic of the safety bar on a ride that doesn't keep me very safe bc I'm so much smaller than my husband now. HAHAHA.

MrsVanderbilt got a reaction from rome in 8 weeks and 40 pounds
Rome, I couldn't have said it better myself. This is the first time in my life that I don't think of myself being on a diet. I've changed my life. Nothing is off limits, but I try to make smart choices.
    I'm 11 weeks postop (sleeved 5/14) and I'm down 44lbs. I don't stress over the numbers. I was a 20/22 preop and now I'm a 14/16.
However, I've been having problems eating and drinking for the past few weeks. Lots of chest pain and the feeling of food getting stuck, spasms, etc. I'm doing a HIDA scan soon since the ultrasound of my gallbladder checked out ok. These problems have caused me to become dehydrated, get a UTI, and I'm also unable to swallow my Vitamins. I'm a hot mess at the moment. But I'm better than where I used to be! I'm off 2 prescription blood pressure meds.

I'm with you! Protein, under....water, under but getting better....and Multivitamin....what Vitamin? Makes me vomit everytime! Even the chewables :-( I'm down 42 pounds and feeling much better! Need to get more regular with exercise as well. The way I figure it....any weight loss is weight loss! I have finally decided that I am not going to worry about it too much! Eat what I can, drink what I can and just do the best that I can overall! This isn't going to be a diet for me! Too many of those in the past! I'm learning that it isn't always about perfection but just being "good enough". It's gonna come off one way or another!
Hang in there and just do the best you can!

MrsVanderbilt reacted to Katie74 in 8 months of bleeding and finally got an answer!
Sorry if this is TMI, but I'm sharing incase someone else is going through the same thing. I had my surgery 11/26/13 and got my period 11/30. It was heavier and longer than usual. I talked to my bariatric nurse and Dr., they both said the same thing, it's normal. Well fast forward 8 months, I continued to bleed off and on. We tried switching my birth control 4 different times. They assured me that it was normal because of the rapid weight loss. I called my ob/gynecology just to get her input cuz, I was so tired of it. She wanted to do an internal ultrasound just to check things out. Turns out that due to my hormone levels changing so much with the weight loss, it spiked my estrogen causing 2 grape size polyp's on my cervix. Finally after 8 months of bleeding I had an answer that had I solution! She said that she has seen this in a lot of her WLS patients. I will have them removed on the 8/4 and should finally have a normal period again!

I still feel there is only one occasion for running: Zombie apocalypse. I find cardio is a necessary evil. I do it, but I don't like it, save for swimming. But I only swim two days a week. It's really hard on my hair. Most days I just grind out 30 minutes on the treadmill or ellipitcal and another 30 on the bike. I really do like strength training though.
So in conclusion: Running is for the Zombie apocalypse.

I'm so sorry. My mom did the exact same thing to me. I specifically told her not to tell ANYONE about my surgery, and she told everyone. I felt so betrayed as well. I let her know that it hurt me that she betrayed my confidence and that my fat is my own business. I will never tell her a secret again. Lesson learned.

When you release your need to control the actions and moods of others you free yourself to actually show up for you!

    LET GO!!
Letting Go doesn't mean you give up.
Letting Go doesn't mean you don't care.
Letting Go simply means you relinquish your struggle to force things to happen a certain way.
You release your struggle to make people behave the way you want them to
(even if you really believe your way is the right way,
it is only the right way for you).
Letting Go means you begin to accept people and situations as they are.
Letting Go means having the courage to give up your idea of what you thought your life was supposed to be
and embrace your life as it is.
In Letting Go you begin to look at the world through kind and compassionate eyes.
You shift from living in the energy of judgement, fear, and frustration to living in the energy of unconditional love and acceptance.
When you Let Go of trying to control things that you cannot, you free yourself to control the one thing you can: YOU.
In Letting Go you give yourself the gift of finally
being able to show up for YOU!
    Affirmations:
In releasing my need to control I set myself free!
The only thing I can control are my
    thoughts, feelings, and actions...
Wow, that means I get to control how I experience my life!!
    AWESOME!
When I stop trying to control others, I actually have the time and energy to take care of me!
    Live in love,

MrsVanderbilt reacted to InfiniteButterfly in The Smoothie and Protein Drink Debate
I am for smoothies and Protein drinks. Most of the time, I do get my Protein from foods, but sometimes, my tummy just doesn't want food. And a Protein Drink is an acceptable choice. My surgeon is totally okay with a protein drink or two, so long as they are instead of a meal rather than in addition to (he made the distinction when I asked if it was okay to continue Protein Drinks in the morning)
Most mornings, I have a shake rather than food because it sits better. My tummy does not like food before 10 a.m., and since I'm generally awake and on the move at 5 a.m., I need something to fuel my morning. The shake does it.
