  1. I am almost 6 months out after sleeve & my eyes are driving me NUTS! I have always worn glasses but am needing to now take them off to do anything up close, like trim my nails. I am also taking them off to read often. With it being 6 mos. out, is it safe now to get a new prescription? I'd hate to have my vision change again after spending the money!

    Drinking from a straw

I was also told to never use a straw, but have by accident when eating out, same as seen in other posts; they serve with a straw & it's habit still to drink out of it. I have not had any issues, but I did notice I drink MORE with a straw, which for me is a good thing! Also, does anyone know if the no straw rule applies to Water bottles that you can refill that have a straw-like drinking opening? I have used those & didn't have any issues. I am only 3 months out, but if I can drink from a straw without any issues I think I can get my Fluid intake up better!

    AETNA RECENT WEIGHT GAIN

I have Aetna too, I was turned down at first, but applied a few months later & approved. I am 3 months out & still fighting to get everything paid. They paid the hospital, but not my dr, even though I have three approval letters; one for the hospital, one for the dr, and one for the anesthesiologist. Be diligent & don't give up!
  4. Good advice Kb88, I had my surgery on 12/26/14 & I did read LOTS & it helped to know what to expect. The pillow from home was a HUGE help, not just for comfort sleeping, but to hold when you cough, and you will cough a lot after surgery. That's how your body gets the anesthetic out of your system. It HURTS, but gets better after a couple days. You will be sore & tired. My doc (Dr. Daniel Fang) told me to expect to be tired for a couple of months & he was right. Your body needs recovery time from surgery, even though it was endoscopic, they still move a LOT of stuff around in there & of course remove most of your stomach, so be prepared to be tired for a while. This sounds crazy, but also think about when you go to the bathroom, which hand do you use to wipe? The incisions make it very hard to um, reach, so wet wipes are a MUST. I was even told to get a kitchen utensil to help extend my reach, like tongs or something, and I have to say, I did have to do that right after surgery. I know, TMI, but hey! I had really bad gas pains, in my left shoulder blade area of all places, but again my Doc warned it would happen. It feels really painful, like a sprain or something, but goes away in a few days. I took Gas-X to help, but the best thing is walking as much as you can. There are a lot of video blogs on YouTube, just search Gastric Sleeve. Get used to drinking LOTS of Water now, get into the habit of sipping it all day, not just waiting until you're thirsty then gulping it down because you won't be able to do that anymore. If you want to message me privately I'd be happy to share my experiences, I obviously have no brain/mouth filter, so I'll tell you anything you want to know that I know!
  5. I have suffered from migraines since I was 13. I tried all the medications out there, did neuro work ups, everything, but no medicine works, except the "migraine cocktail" they give you via IV at the ER, but I HATE the drugged out feeling. I finally tried having braces on my teeth as I am a grind my jaw and after 3 years of wearing them it did help. I think I had two causes of the migraines, hormones & the teeth grinding. Now, I am almost 3 months out of sleeve surgery & am beginning to get them again! My GYN told me that estrogen is stored in fat cells (I have a major sensitivity to estrogen, can't do birth control because of it) & I am afraid that's why the new migraines are starting: my body is shedding fat & therefore releasing the estrogen into my system. I do NOT want to suffer through these again as they are completely debilitating (I have to just close myself off in a dark room for days) and none of the medication really works. I saw a post that said CoQ 10 can help, so I will try that, but does anyone have any suggestions? I know I am not getting enough Water & that can cause headaches as well, so have been upping my intake. Thanks! Amber
  6. I had a Chiropractor tell me once that you should drink 24 oz for every 50 pounds you weigh. Dunno if that's true, but it sure is a lot more than 48-64 ounces for me! I am 3 months out & for sure dehydrated, affecting my bms even, so I feel your pain. I try to add coconut Water as it's supposed to be more hydrating than just plain water. My biggest issue is water just doesn't taste good anymore. I used to be a big water drinker, but now it's hard to get down, even with the flavor packets added. I keep thinking I would drink more if I used a straw, but not willing to try that as I'm afraid of the pain I will likely get from too much air in my system. I agree with the others though, you should try to call your Dr who did your surgery & at least talk to a nurse for advice.
  7. I HATE that feeling too! I am about 3 months out from my sleeve, so it gets better! I have to watch what I eat still, it's awesome you can eat lettuce, I WANT a salad so bad, but veggies as a whole are rough for me still. I still take a Prilosec everyday, but don't want to do that forever, so I try to skip it and man on those days, my tummy HATES me! I have found that if I eat half portions, wait an hour or so, then eat the rest of the 1\4 cup that it doesn't hurt so much. My biggest issue is Water, I drink all day long it feels like but I am so dehydrated! My skin feels like sandpaper!

    Any Az sleevers?

I am in Phoenix, I sleeved on 12/26/13, so still a newbie, any encouraging words would be AWESOME! I have a pretty awesome family support, but it's really tough as I was, AM a comfort eater & so having issues with finding a new outlet for when I am stressed. I had a major ankle surgery in september 2013 (2nd surgery on my right ankle) so am not quite ready for exercise over a bit of walking, but any ideas would be great! Thanks! Amber
