SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
Honestly, they pump us so full of fluids it's no surprise some of us "gain" weight post op. When I was being discharged the nurse literally opened up the IV line and the whole bag drained in a few minutes.

Baby Food
I can't wait for my liquid/protein week to be over! I know it's for safety reasons. So I will gladly adhere to the post op diet...but I went to the store today and bought tons of mush/purée food Gerber pears, peaches, applesauce, Apple/mango/kiwi, oatmeal (for mechanical phase), unsweetened applesauce, sf Jello (can't wait until I can add fruit to it! My sister and I both love banana and peaches in different jellos), no sugar added Libby peaches and pears, a huge tub of fage greek yogurt, and I think that's about it...looking forward to the next phase ????

September 22, 2014
I guess my surgery took longer due to the hernia repair. The last doc I went to and who did my endoscopy said I didn't have one, but I did. So my hubby stressed out from that. I still have pain in my shoulders. It was almost gone and then I had a slime attack and threw up which was no fun task! Oh my gosh it was painful. It was like being punched in the diaphragm where the hernia was repaired.

Sleeve buddy needed in the Seattle area, surgery date 9/17/2014
Hey I was sleeved on 9/22. How are you doing?
-
Anyone revise from iband to sleeve?!
I have never even heard of doing both. I had heard of plication, but my preference was just to do the sleeve and cut out the part of my stomach. I honestly questioned how all foods would digest with it folded in on itself.

Family Members
So my sister flew in from vegas to see me and hang out with me for a few days while I'm recovering and my hubby and her went to the bar tonight...which I was ok with, but when they didn't show back up til 3:30 in the morning I was pissed! Neither of them called to check on me or see how I was doing. I was told I could have called them. Am I being irrational? I feel so abandoned. My sister didn't even say anything to me, went outside and when I left to drive around the block (I was too tired to go any further) she went inside and when I came back she was gone...I guess a friend picked her up to go get food. I just feel like I don't matter.

Slime attack & Vomiting
Thanks! It was awful. I've just been sipping things today and haven't eaten anything...my shoulders are killing me even worse today. Darn gas.

Slime attack & Vomiting
Oh my gosh! I advise everyone not to puke after the sleeve...LOL not like we have control over it, but it is so painful. I'm not sure if I was nauseous and getting saliva overload because I took my medicine and it didn't settle right, or if it's from my sinuses draining, but it was awful!!!! I was doubled over the toilet trying to hold my tummy in and wherever they repaired my hiatal hernia, it felt like I was being punched in the gut and I could feel where the hernia repair moved with my diaphragm. Oh please don't let me feel that again!

Cold medicine post op?
So of course I get a cold the week of my surgery! Anyone have ideas on any cold meds or liquids I can take? I was sleeved on Monday and I believe my dr is closed sat/sun. Thanks
-
Water Bottle
I have two thermos bottles that I fill with ice water. One has a straw and the other has an opening to drink from. They are 18 and 20 oz I believe. They don't sweat and they keep ice water cold for at least 24 hours

Jello and yogurts that aren't sugar free
My sister couldn't find sugar free jello at the store and got regular jello, I'm not eating much as I'm only a few days out, but is it ok to eat them sparingly. Also what about no sugar added TCBY?

Leak test
That would be awesome to see! My surgeon also repaired a hiatal hernia and so far no reflux...for the first time since I was 16 or so, I haven't had to sleep on my left side to prevent reflux at night, or worry that I will get pain in my abdomen. The last surgeon I went to actually told me u didn't have a hernia and that my liver was too large. My surgeon now says he doesn't want to step on any toes, but he doesn't understand why or how the other surgeon couldn't do the surgery previously, but if he had done the surgery, I still would have been left with a hernia.

Leak test
He's a great surgeon and as far as I know, no one else around here has a 2 year followup program like they do. I will have nutrition, doctor, fitness, and psych visits for the next two years. They do internal tests, but not the external tests like swallowing barium.

Drinking after sleeve
I'm drinking warm tea, water, and making protein shake smoothies that are like frosty consistency. I added pb2 to my chocolate protein shake...it was pretty good. I just want to eat real food soon. Even mush stuff would be nice lol...but I will continue to follow my docs plan as I don't want to hurt my sleeve ????
-
Drinking after sleeve
Do most of you find that drinking has no restriction? I sipped a cup of tea and felt like it went down no problem. I just wish the gas pains would go away.

Amazed at some day one or two post op recovery stories
My doctor gave me strict instructions not to lift anything over 15 pounds for quite some time. I was on Clear Liquids monday and Tuesday and now for 1 week, I'm on Protein shakes and Jello, broth, pudding, after that I will spend a few weeks on puréed food, then go to mushy foods, then go to regular foods

Leak test
He wasn't scaring them, but a lot of people take the leak test as a false sense of security, and then they eat the wrong foods too early

Sugar addict and Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) surgery?
I chose the sleeve because I don't want my insides rearranged and if I make cookies at Christmas, I want to be able to at least taste them and make sure I'm not giving my loved ones gross treats. I want to be able to eat normally but with moderation, which is what the sleeve helps with. I am a volume eater. Even if it's healthy, I just eat too much
-
I think I'm regretting the sleeve
I think the hernia repair is worse than the sleeve. It may take awhile to eat/drink. I am post op by 2 days and can drink warm tea, Water, and fluids, but I just have so much gas it's hard to sip and burp. I made a shaved ice with

Leak test
Anyone else's surgeons not do leak tests? I asked mine and he said they don't do them as it gives the patients a false sense of security and many would eat the wrong yhings

Gas pains!
I had surgery on Monday and the gas pain is worse than the surgery itself! I have gas strips and am walking but it's awful! Anyone have any good tricks? Eating jello and broth and protein makes me burpy too.

What happened to the Duodenal Switch forums?
The VSG is usually the first stage to DS, I was told by one gal she can eat whatever she wants, usually over 3000 calories a day since she doesn't absorb a lot. To me that seems unhealthy. Could it be what is being eaten?
