  1. Hi, I'm 6 weeks out from my RNY. I'm having no problem with liquids, Soups, yogurts, Protein chips, etc. Basically anything that I don't have to chew or that will disintegrate in my stomach. I'm trying to introduce certain foods that I can cut with a fork. I'm finding I can only eat little bitty pieces and I have to chew to the point of making it a liquid or it gets stuck. This may be normal but I'm just wondering. I would live off the soups and yogurts but they don't satisfy me like eggs, tuna, etc and I find myself grazing. My nutritionist told me I needed to eat things with more substance but they make me miserable.
  2. That sounds exactly like mine. Let me know what the doctor says. What time is your appt?

    Hospital Hair care

Braid it or put it in a pony tail. You won't be in there long enough (hopefully) to worry about it. At least you won't have the "bed head" us folks with short hair have. My hair was the LAST thing on my mind after surgery.

two weeks out and not losing

I'm a little over 3 weeks out and my scale hasn't been moving down as fast as it was. I'm doing everything right except I could probably exercise more, however I reinjured my left foot and am back into a boot. :-(
  5. I could have sworn I had an incisional hernia but it's just an entrapped nerve. It felt like a searing pain beneath my right rib cage. Almost like there was a hot knife stuck in there. It came on a week after surgery and just got worse and worse. Last Friday they gave me an ultrasound guided cortisone shot and it seems to be getting better. What are your symptoms jessiej1979?
  6. It seems everyone has left side pain if any. I'm 9 days post op and my pain in the right side is increasing. It wasn't even there in the beginning. It's like a tight pain that starts beneath my rib cage and can spread to the flank area. I saw the PA at my surgeons office yesterday and she said it was "induration" aka angry tissue. I'm not sure I'm buying that. It's probably nothing but it would be nice to know I'm not the only to experience this sort of post op pain.

    Right side pain

Yes for the most part. It seems to only flare up tomorrow. There is a slight chance I will have to be knocked out and a stitch removed. I should know Monday but I think it's gonna be okay. It's a lap incision but about an inch wide and they had to pull out some of my stomach through there and it's just has everything irritated. No I didn't have the sleeve but I had a Nissen (reflux surgery) in 2005 and when they take it down they have to remove the part of your stomach that was wrapped around the esophagus. Blah, blah, blah....It's always something.... Let me know if you get your stuff resolved CrisG....

    Right side pain

Chris G-Hopefully you will get some answers and feel better soon. Well mine was finally diagnosed. It is an entrapped nerve due to swelling and the stitch. I received an ultrasound guided cortisone shot and it's all better now. Hopefully that will be the end of it.

    G a s

For the first week I had to take a gas x thin strip every time I ate or drank. Now at just over 3 weeks I may take 2 or 3 a week. Some people say they don't work but I beg to differ. You cannot overdose so just knock yourself out.

    incision question

I would check with your surgeon. They may need to pack it or it may just need to stay dry and open to air. Only they can tell you. Good luck.

    Post-Op January 2014 Losers Club!

The only thing that tasted half way decent the first few days after surgery was diluted apple juice. It also help with the vague nausea I felt. There is no protein so I didn't drink much.
  12. I took 2 bites of my daughter's hot dog last night. I chewed well and swallowed. It became immediately clear to me that this was a mistake. After wretching and throwing up for an hour I realized that even if you chew well the hot dog remains a single piece. I may never eat a hot dog again.

    Beware of Hot Dogs!

Someone told me to make sure you take the skin off any hot dogs.

    Beware of Hot Dogs!

Yes, I may and probably will eat a hot dog again. I'm 48 and plan on living a long time. It just won't be anytime soon.

    Beware of Hot Dogs!

Don't yell at me but I was 16 days out and it was all beef. I had no intentions on eating a whole hot dog. Just that little left over portion looked so good and everything has been going down well. But not so much last night. I lived and I learned. If I attempt another one it will have to go in the blender first, but that's not likely for a while.
  16. I chose RNY because I've previously had reflux surgery and hiatel hernia surgery. They also had to repair my hernia again when they did the RNY. I think reflux sufferers are recommended to have RNY.

Did you know your were having an open RNY or did they convert during surgery?
  18. No. I'm having some severe pain on my right side. However the left is where most of the work is done. I'd speak with my doc.It may be part of the normal healing progress or could be something else. Feel better soon.

    January Surgeries

Gas X thin strip, Gas X thin strip, Gas X thin strip, Gas X thin strip, Gas X thin strip.............. Someone told me they don't work but I disagree. I took one every time I ate or drank for the first couple of days. Pretty much all my surgical gas was gone by day 5 and I never had too much pain with it. I've had several abdominal surgeries and it has made a big difference in the recovery process to me.

    Right side pain

My gallbladder was removed in 2005. I'm still waiting for the CT auth from my damn insurance company. I have a good mind to go to the ER just to make them pay a higher bill but I'm not unless it gets worse. My doc told me there was an internal stitch there since the opening is so large. In the past I've had trouble with stitches, Hopefully I'm just irritated and it will calm down.

    Right side pain

It started off intermittently but has become constant since yesterday. I went back to the dr today and they are sending me for a CT scan. Hopefully I'll get that today but I'm starting to wonder. It's not gas. I took a muscle relaxer last night and it made no difference so I don't think it's a pulled muscle. I'm at the point I can hardly sit or drive. Doc said they had to remove some of my stomach due to a previous surgery and that's the hole they pulled it from. Either it's an incisional hernia or angry nerves. I can deal with it but I just want to know.

    Right side pain

I've been pretty regular. I'm gonna treat is like a pulled muscle for a few days. I took a flexeril before bed. It's still there but will keep at it throughout today. If it gets worse I'll go in.

    Newbie and cravings

I wanted a Lays potato chip yesterday. Thank god for marketing because I told myself you can just have one. Today has been much better.
