I have told most of my family as they are the ones that have seen most of my struggles all my life. Over the holidays I told a niece that I am very close with as we share the battle of the life long bulge. She said to me so you are taking the easy way out? I was so hurt that I just froze as I thought she of all people would understand and be there for me ! I never talk about it with my mother n' law either because when I told her she said are you sure you want to do that it's very bad and dangerous. I personally think they both need to read up on it! I really like this support group online I know you all will help me through this!

I am thinking of getting a fit bit. Is it really worth it and how accurate is it? I use a pedometer right now and I noticed if I am driving slow it adds up steps I never actually took. In one day it added over 3000 steps while it was sitting in my van door ????. I don't want to spend that kind of money if it's going to do that. Have any of you tested the fit bit? I would appreciate feed back. ????thanks!

Wow that's incredible all procedures at one time! I love it! Only 1 down time! How do you stay comfortable? Can you even sit? How do you sleep I imagine on your side. Were you able to fly home or did you drive? Sorry for all the questions. I can't wait till I can get some work done but it's a long ways away!

Wow way to go Jaci and Kenny! Great job! I have lost 55 lbs now this yr. It's tough going somedays I fight the food demon on a daily basis . I am losing way slower then I wanted. But other things are great I have way more energy! I coach my 5 yr olds soccer team and assist on my 9 yr olds baseball team! I was up on the roof painting my siding this weekend! I am going on a weekend camp out with Scouts Canada this June. Last year I would not have moved of my lawn chair! This to me is huge! I went from a 22 to a comfortable 16. Keep up the great work everyone!

Way to go you guys and gals!! I am doing well had my 3 mth check up yesterday I am down 52 lbs. My doc is very happy I thought it was a bit slow especially lately. Some weeks it's less then a lb. I have to reassure myself that 50+ lbs in under 4 mths is incredible!! Now every where I go people are noticing and commenting thanks to no more heavy winter parkas!
    Keep up the great work!!

I have hypothyroidism and have been on medication for 14 years. My surgery was 5/30/13. I lost weight steadily for seven months before I hit my first plateau at Christmas. I had hit 100 pounds lost by 12/23. My plateau (the only plateau I ever had) lasted almost two months. By the end of February I started losing again slowly (because there's not much left to lose).I've lost another 13 pounds since then. I'm five pounds away from what I weighed on my wedding day - 115lbs. :-)

I second the bike shop! You end up spending more then in a box store but so worth it! When I bought mine I negotiated a free year of maintenance and tune ups. My bike is fitted to me and rides so smooth!

I decided to add Baileys to my coffee. It was my first drink after surgery and oh so yummy! I took my 3 little boys out for a walk when the baileys hit my head I felt so totally DRUNK! We were just down the road and had to come home so I could have a small snack and literally sober up with some regular coffee! Next time I try a drink I will not be around my children. So did not expect that!!

Yes you can if you get the high Protein ones. Make sure the sugar is low. Boost has a diabetic one that is safe as well.

Please ask as many questions you want. I asked the same questions pre-op. My husband bought me an electric recliner. The recliner has been the best thing for my recovery. I can seat and sleep in it just by using the remote. I am happy that all happen at one time, just one recovery. I flew home, I live in Florida. I am not going to lie, the first week was tough, but it started getting better after that. Today is my 18 days post op and I am feeling great, no pain at all just my new butt feel uncomfortable when I seat. Your time will come sooner than you think.

2biglamb got a reaction from scarlet333 in Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
7 weeks post op today! I decided to start C25K. Although I was active when I was in school I could never do any distance running. I would always get a stitch in my side and be gasping for breath and my lungs hurt! What would be a good pace to walk and run the c25k to start with? I looked back at old posts and wow there is no way I can run at an 8 speed! I walked at 3.4 and ran at 4.4 and I was sweating! Is this ok to start with especially considering I have tonnes of extra weight to carry or should I increase my speed? Any advice would be great! Thx

Speed will come with time. Do what you can at the beginning and the rest will follow. The most important thing is just getting going ;o)

When I started in February 2013 my pace was around 4.2. Don't worry about how fast you're running until you've been running for a year. My pace naturally started increasing as I lost weight and ran further distances. I'm still pretty slow at around 5.2/5.4, but I think I do okay for a 48-yr old with a bad knee and an autoimmune disorder. My only goals have been distance related (5K, 10K, and half).
As you're doing the C25K program, if you're having trouble completing a day because you run out of breath, slow down! If you can't complete because you run out of energy, make sure you figure out what's best for you to eat before running. If you can't complete because your legs are sore, change your stride (look at Chi running videos on YouTube). Never be afraid to repeat a day or even a week. The key to the program is persistence. Even those of us that have been running for a year have bad runs. I had one on Sunday. I think it was the heat and over-dressing, but I bonked (couldn't run another step) at about 4 miles. My planned run for the day was 6-7 miles. I didn't beat myself up over it, I just kept on and walked the rest. I'll make sure next time to check the temp on the beach (it was 10 degrees warmer) and take clothes with me in case I need to change.
