BENBO13 reacted to par1959 in how much can you eat with the sleeve longterm
How much you eat depends on what you eat. If you eat solid Protein such as chicken of beef 4 to 6 OZs is all you will fit. It you eat Soup one or yogurt one can get a lot more down. The trick is to eat and make yourself full. Easier said than done. You will find getting use to smaller meals its that bad, but it does take time.

I had my surgery yesterday 7/7. I was supposed to have the gastric bypass but he found a football sized ovarian cyst which interfered with my intestines so he converted to a gastric sleeve. He was able to remove 3 litres of Fluid from the cyst but there is another 2 litres left, so it looks like another surgery down the road. I had researched the gastric bypass seven ways to Sunday but now I have the sleeve and don't know what to expect. Looks like I start my research all over again! Small price to pay for a thinner future. I'm glad he was able to do something. I would have been so upset if I woke up with nothing! Otherwise I'm doing well. I have discomfort due to the gas. When does that start to pass? Soon I hope. Good to hear from the Julyers!

BENBO13 reacted to starspring in Question...what has been the hardest thing to deal with post op?
The hardest part for me was the first month. The vomiting and nausea from the anesthesia and I had spasms that were awful. I hated drinking because it felt like my tummy was attacking it. I also couldn't tolerate my Protein Shakes until month two, something about the milk. Would I do it again? Hell yeah I'm out of the 200's and haven't felt this good in years!

BENBO13 reacted to millergirl314 in What are you telling people?
If I'm asked directly by someone who doesn't act like they are 12yrs old ( speaking of people at work) then I will tell them that i have had weight loss surgery and it's been the best decision for my health. And anyone else I tell them I'm very careful what I eat anymore and I exercise more, which is 100% true :-) Most completely respect that and at I've even inspired a few to check it out.
I'm proud of myself for making my health and future a priority, all of you should be too :-)

Good luck! You will get there. I have knee issues that kept me from walking. Now is better but the arthritis is still there so I ride an exercise bike. Try a recumbent if you can't do the upright. Or swimming. Peace Out.

BENBO13 reacted to Noor1969 in Thoughts and concerns about the preop diet
Well, my 2 week preop diet starts tomorrow. It's pretty strict, with 5 shakes a day, sugar free beverages, sugar free Jello and sugar free ice pops only. And no caffeine (although I'm allowed to drink 1 cup of Decaf coffee or tea per day.) My surgeon wants me to lose at least 10 pounds. I'm terrified.
I'm terrified because I don't deal with hunger very well. If I did, I wouldn't have ballooned up to 270 pounds. I'm also terrified because for the first time in my life I will have to get a divorce from binging and compulsive overeating. The head hunger is going to be overwhelming.
My surgeon told me that in her experience patients who comply with the preop diet have a higher degree of success post-surgery. And I have no intention of cheating. I don't want to wake up from the OR without a sleeve because my liver was too big for the surgery.
I'm trying to maintain a positive attitude--knowing that I'll feel so much better as the weight comes off. And I'm seeing this as my chance to FINALLY leave the self-destructive behaviors behind.
I know that some of you may suggest that I start therapy to deal with these feelings and compulsions. I haven't made that decision yet. I have attempted therapy several times in the past and I've never been able to find someone who was a good fit. My experience over the next 2 weeks will go a long way in my determining whether therapy is an option for me or not.
A part of me is so damn tired of it all--the eating has gotten so out of control. And I have put on 10 pounds in the last month thanks to all of my last meals and food funerals. This madness has to stop. But I am going to miss food so much.
Like I said, I have no intention of cheating. But I'm still terrified.
