@@Danita I eat a lot of fish, chicken and cheese - I eat my Protein first, then veggies and fruit. I don't drink Protein Shakes at all since I have a problem with whey and haven't found another type that doesn't disgust me. I do, however, eat Life Choice Protein Bars from time to time. I find them at Walmart in the Cereal isle. They have 16 grams protein, 180 calories, 19 carbs, and 3g sugars. They do not have the bad effect on my stomach, etc. that the purely whey based ones have. I always carry one in my purse to eat in case I go off schedule or can't find a suitable source of protein to eat (say, my friends are eating cupcakes or something) I cut the bar up into 8 pieces and carry it in a baggie so it is handy to 'snack' on - so to speak.

Weight loss definitely affected my meds. I was no longer type-2 diabetic, so I no longer needed Metformin, my blood pressure medicine and cholesterol medicines were significantly reduced, I no longer needed meds for Low-T.
Work with your PCP and specialist (neurologist for the epilepsy?).
You may need an adjustment to your meds as you lose weight. Hopefully some of them you will no longer need to take.
    Good luck.

I was on ground pills for 5 weeks, but have gone back to swallowing regular pills. I have been able to drop one of my blood pressure medications - yes!
I think you will still need your epilepsy medications, as so far as I know, there is no association with BMI. However, dose of many medications is affected by BMI, so it's possible your dose will be reduced after you have achieved significant weight loss.

Good luck to you. Dr. Wegner is one of the greatest. There were a few times I called the after hours number and he immediately called back. Let me know if you have any questions.

Does anyone attend the support group at St. Francis? if so, what do you think of their support group? Is there a lot of people in attendance? I'm interested in attending.
I moved to the area in November and had my surgery out of state. Was wondering if they allow attendance/participation of those who did not have their surgeries through them?

@@Danita I get the swanson's low sodium chicken broth. I think it goes down well because it is really warm. I find it helps to 'wake up' my stomach, so to speak.

I found chicken stock that has 9gms Protein in a serving. I haven't tried it yet but imagine it's no different than other broths.

I assume you are talking post op. But either way, I got mine the first few months post op with Premiere Protein Drinks from Wal-Mart. They are 11 oz and have 30 gr of protein. Two of those get you the minimum. Also early on Isopure Protein waters from GNC were a lifesaver for me during the all liquid stage. Some people don't like the flavor but personally I enjoyed them. Especially over ice. They come in several different flavors and taste like kool-aid. If you mean pre-op or after the liquid phase, I eat lots of rotisserie chicken or grilled chicken. My favorite yogurt is Danon Lite & Fit with 12 gr of protein per serving. Also the chocolate on top flavors really satisfy my desert cravings when I have them. Grilled or baked fish is great also. Just be sure the package says "wild caught" and not farm raised. My other option for extra protein is in the deli section or your store. They are the Oscar Mayer P3 protein packs. They have nuts, cheese and deli meats. A great snack and each package has 11 or 12 grams of protein
My NSV... I got to shop on the right side of Catos last week!! Some super cute stuff

Are you having the sleeve or bypass? I had the sleeve and Dr. Wegner was my surgeon. You are more than welcomed to PM me with questions.

I wish I took less to the hospital. All I really need was my face wash and lip balm.
I wish I knew I wouldn't be a "freak" forever. At 6 months I felt just like a normal person with a smaller appetite and capacity. I don't feel different or like I had weight loss surgery, at least not how I thought it would be.
I wouldn't have stocked up on anything before surgery like I did. I ended up tossing so much of that stuff recently.
I wavered a little on telling people about my surgery, but now that I am 8 months out I am very happy and secure in my decision not to tell people. It has made my recovery a lot easier and my weight loss easier also.
Things get better at 6 weeks, better again at 3 months and back to normalish at 6 months.

Had you discussed this with your PCP before at any time? Perhaps its time to make an appointment and take the form that they need to sign to the PCP and have them sign it in front of you and give it to you so you can take it or send it back to your surgeon. It could be something going on with the office staff, it might be the PCP doesn't support your decision, it could be a lot of other things. Try one more time with a face to face and then decide if you need to change PCPs. Have you liked this PCP prior to this?
