    Alcohol...

I am 8 weeks out from being sleeved and I finally caved in and had a glass of Riesling with some girlfriends at the 6.5 week mark and I was completely fine! I didn't feel tipsy at all! Just this past weekend, I ventured into wine again and had a glass and a half, and again, didn't feel tipsy at all and I had no issues what-so-ever! It still tasted yummy but I wasn't eager to drink a bottle like I would have months ago at a girls' night! Ha!

    Valentine's Challenge

Hey Bea! Current Weight- 232! I think I may hit my goal of 225 by Valentine's Day!! So close! Love seeing all the stats so thank you!
  8. Hello everyone! I haven't been on here in a few weeks, as I've been traveling for work and basically had no free time. I did weigh myself this morning and officially hit the 40 lb. lost mark! It's been a month and a half and I'm thrilled with that number. I know everybody is different, but I've been reading so many people who complain about "only" losing X amount of pounds and they are constantly comparing themselves to others. I always want to ask those people, "Have you been working out like crazy?" I have been doing weights and walking a lot and I think that has helped tremendously! Last week, I was in Arizona for meetings and it was challenging to look like a "normal eater" since nobody knows about the surgery. No drinking and obviously taking in very little food probably throws up some red flags, so I made sure to move food around on my plate, give the waitress my plate when nobody was looking, etc… I'm getting good at these little tricks. One observation that I made while on my trip is that I cannot handle ice cream. One night, I took a small bite of vanilla ice cream and about 5 minutes later, I had to go to the bathroom and throw it up. About 4 days later, I took a bite of green tea ice cream (you would think I learned my lesson but I told myself maybe it wasn't the ice cream) and again, 5 minutes later, I was in the bathroom and it came back up. Anyway, that's all for now! I just wanted to check in and give an update. I hope whoever reads this is doing well in their journey!

    Valentine's Challenge

Hi Bea! Current weight this am- 244 Thanks!
  12. Today was my 1-month Post Op check, which is the first time I have seen my surgeon since surgery. I first met with a dietician and we just went over basic stuff- are you getting protein in, vitamins taken, liquids kept up, etc... Then I went upstairs and when my surgeon walked in, he said "Well, how much are you loving the sleeve?! You look amazing and you have cheekbones!" Haha... I told him to not let that fool him, it could very well be my new NARS blush! . He had a lot of nice things to say about me, which was nice to hear! Also, HE SAID I DIDNT HAVE TO TAKE MY CARAFATE ANYMORE!!! Thank goodness! That stuff is horrible! Oh, and I weighed this morning and I was exactly 245.0. My highest weight was 277 so I am down 32 lbs in a month. I'm happy with my progress so far and it appears I'm just getting out of my 3 week stall. That's all for now, just thought I would journal a bit today!
  13. Getting my vitamins in! Ugh, I don't know what my problem is, but I've noticed if it's a super busy Saturday, I'll notice on Sunday that I forgot to take half of them from the day before. I have to space most of them out because they make me feel sick. Any advice to this would be helpful!

    Indiana Anyone?

Hey there Nope, Dr. Evanson doesn't put you on a liquid diet for two weeks, just the day before surgery. I was in the hospital for just one night and left the next day around 4ish?? Tomorrow is my 4 week mark and as of today, I believe I was down 32 lbs (8 of those were pre-op). I'm thrilled with the amount of weight I've lost so far. I've been stalled all this week pretty much but am not stressing at all because I knew to expect it and it's better than gaining!! Make sure you take a jacket tomorrow if you typically get cold. Oh, and a drink and a notebook... I made lots of notes

    Indiana Anyone?

Hey there! I was sleeved one month ago by Dr. Evanson and I have had zero complications thankfully! My surgery took less than an hour. I really like Dr. Evanson and I have my first month post-op visit this Wednesday. I am in outside sales and I was back to work in a week. I am in and out of the car every day, which was a little discomfort, but I sucked it up and I was fine! As for the nutrition class, you won't have a lunch break... I went to the 8:30 class and got out of there at like 12:15. If you are looking for the meal plan, they would have given that to you on the very first day you went in for your seminar class. You will be on full liquids for the first 4 weeks. I would love to help if you have any further questions!
  16. Thank you ALL for such kind words during this hard time. As much as I'm hurting, it's that poor family that I continue to send prayers to. I can't imagine! On another note, you guys have all talked me into it... I'm going to Target today to buy those jeans! It's a funny feeling because if any of you are like me, we have all purchased items of clothing that are just a bit too tight and we always tell ourselves "oh it will fit perfectly when I lose just 10 more pounds"... Well this time, I feel pretty darn good about buying a complete size down!
  17. Hi guys! I haven't been on my journal here in a few days, but I definitely still get on my app and read Current Threads. I know this has been commented on several times on threads, but now being a month post op (on Tuesday), I've noticed more and more how the majority of the people using this app are still Pre-Op. It's weird, most people tend to disappear once they've had their surgery. I can see that they probably don't want the surgery to rule their life like their weight has for so many years so maybe they branch out?? Anyway, this week has been extremely rough. My district manager (direct boss) that I had such a great relationship passed away suddenly in his sleep while in a hotel room out of state. He was 40 years old and healthy. Those types of things shake you to the core. No rhyme or reason and sometimes life just doesn't make sense. The reason why I'm bringing this up is because this is the first time since the surgery that I've been faced with EXTREME STRESS AND SADNESS. Typically, those two things would cause me to spin out of control eating every fattening thing in sight. Emotional eating at it's finest. This is where the sleeve has really come in handy. Again, it kind of just goes back to the "your sleeve is a tool, not your magic pill" statement. It kept me from eating carbs, fried food, and sugar (in fear of throwing them up). I definitely thought about it though.... Anyway, I digress. On the weight loss front, I officially hit the 30 lbs lost mark as of yesterday! I've dropped one jean size (tight 20 to a perfect 18 fit) so I just ran to Target and bought a cute pair on clearance for $13.00! I'm almost tempted to go buy the 16's while they still have them since they are so cheap! Well, that's about it... 2014 has started out rough but I know that there are good things to come!

    The Fat Friend?

So I've just caught up on this thread's responses and I'm wondering if you are thinking the same thing I am.... Why are people not even answering the question that you asked?! Ha! People, she just wanted to know if you have had any friends that have treated you differently since you have lost weight, not life stories on why you don't need any friends in your life because you don't need them. That's not even a realistic statement for a social interactive human being! Of course we need friends, and it is healthy for each of us to have friends outside of our husbands and children. And honestly, I think there are many people on here that have run into snide comments from close friends after having WLS. I have chosen not to tell anyone other than my husband and I've received a few snarky comments like, "Why aren't you drinking.... Oh, is this another one of your "fad" diets... Oh and you aren't eating bread either, well that's no fun!" These were all said from our closest couple that now we live one state apart so at 10 days post op, they obviously could not see any weight loss. Now being almost a month post op, I'll be seeing that same couple at the end of February and I'm curious what comments I'll receive!

    Sleevers by profession.

I like this thread even though it was started months ago! I'm a pharmaceutical sales rep! To my knowledge, I've never seen anyone else on here with my job... Tons of nurses though!

    The Fat Friend?

I feel like I could have written this post myself! I, like you, did not tell any friends, and have always been the largest of all my friends. They all know I'm working out/eating right but they've heard me do that several times over the years so I'm pretty sure they just assume I will gain back whatever weight I lose. I'm so curious to see how people respond to this question!

    Valentine's Challenge

    Hi Bea! Current weight: 248
  22. Oh my gosh!! Congratulations! You look absolutely amazing! You are a true inspiration and it's unbelievable how much this surgery changes peoples' lives! You should be very proud of yourself and your hard work!
  23. Yes, I'm still here! Things are going well! I think a lot of people were not realizing that they are posting here on my personal journal to talk to other people instead of one of the forums so I wasn't saying much haha. You're surgeon's office is taking a long time to have all of your tests run... Mine were all in one day and then those took a week to get back the results and that's when my surgeon's office submitted to my insurance for approval. From that point, it took 3 days and I was approved but the stupid lady at the dr office that's in charge of insurance took forever. A few weeks later I got my surgery date.
  24. Thank you so much! I just added you as a friend on here… and for the record, I don't think anyone is an expert at this, but it sounds like we have a lot of similarities in our experiences and it's great to have someone to bounce questions off of! I joined the Valentine's Day challenge and this is my first one, but I LOVE competitions! My husband and I currently have a friendly competition going to see who can get more mileage in on our treadmill from Jan 1-Valentine's Day. That stuff keeps me motivated too, because I like to win. Haha! I weigh daily as well because I like the feedback (and I like to update my ticker, it's fun!) and I told myself before surgery (after I had read post after post about people freaking out because they hadn't lost a pound in 4 days) that I would not obsess if/when I hit a stall because it's better than gaining, which is what I am very good at typically! Just out of curiosity, when did you notice your first stall and how long would you say it lasted? The past few days, the scale has just been going down like .2 lbs, but I don't consider that a "stall". PS- I like your signature line where you documented your progress month by month… I think I'll do that too!
  25. Hello again! I was sleeved on December 17th so I'm almost at 3 weeks post op. I couldn't have asked for a better recovery. I'm down 26ish pounds so far, I get my liquids in and on MOST days I get in my protein of 65-80 grams. How you feel about exercise is how I'm currently feeling about the diet portion. I've used My Fitness Pal for years and have tracked every carb and calorie and I became a slave to constantly tracking every bite, so while you didn't want to add a strict exercise routine in just yet, I didn't want to become obsessed with tracking every bite quite yet. I haven't been doing anything crazy, but I try and walk/run at least a mile every day on the treadmill and doing hand weights. It's freezing here too so it's hard to get out to the gym right now. I think once I get to where I can eat some fish and veggies, I will start using MFP again, but as for now, I'm just focused on liquids, protein, vitamins and medicine (carafate gross!). Did you start tracking food right from the beginning or did you wait a bit initially??
