  1. Hi everyone, So my insurance denied my surgery, and will not budge. My husbands work is self insured and do not care about people needing elective procedures. I can not afford to pay for RNY surgery here in the US. My payments would be like 700$ a month. No way. So I started researching Mexico for the surgery. I am looking for people who have gone to Mexico for your procedure and I am looking to hear stories from start to finish, good or bad. Also I am really confused on how this all works since I wouldn't see the doctor beforehand. Also, how does financing work? I have no money in a savings. Do people get loans for these kinds of things? Family is not an option for helping me out. Please someone help me out and give me a direction to start in. Some sites are saying they handle everything for you from start to finish. But I don't trust anything like that online. Help please!!

    Young Gastric Bypass Patients

Hey everyone! I'm so happy to find a group of people are the same age either having the surgery or already did! i'm 21 and going to my first doctor appointment in 2 weeks! I'm so hopeful and postive that rny will be an amazing decision. I don't have much support tho! My husband is indifferent but my grandma and best friend think it;s the worst idea i've ever had and that i will be miserable afterwards. I'm on a mission to prove them wrong
  7. I just recently started looking into the RNY gastric surgery. I wanted lapband originally but found that it isn't right for me and my needs. I am confident in rny and very happy i may get it done. Still in early stages but i am so postive and ready for a lifestyle change. But no one around me supports it. All my family and friends keep telling me i'm making a mistake. I will be miserable, i'll hate not being able to eat junk food and fast food like i do everyday, they say i'll be sick all the time and will regret the surgery. No one thinks it's a good idea or even understands why i want it done so badly. My bmi is 47. i'm young, 21, but in need of a serious wake up call and lifestyle change. i believe rny is it and i'm so postive it will work great for me. Does anyone out there regret the surgery? or had the same fears from family and proven them wrong? I know i'm doing this surgery for me and no one else and not to listen to them, but it really sucks when all they do is try to talk you out of it.
  8. This new update to the website is a little confusing

    21 - 1 month post op

i am 21 and just now looking into RNY and 99% sure it's what I want to do. I honestly thought I was the only 21 year old who wanted the surgery! It's so nice to know there are others around my age who have gotten it. I am afraid of being denied from my insurance because im so young. My bmi is 47 tho. :/

    Horror stories?!?

A horror story is what my mother in law went thru/is going through. She had her RNY 3 years ago. Was close to 300 pounds, 4'11, bmi 53. (Before she got big, when she was 18 she weighed like 90 pounds.) she got her surgery within 3 months of applying, and had a horrible slow recovery. She ended up staying in icu for over a week due to complications from the surgery. She couldn't eat a thing for months, couldn't keep anything down, constantly puked, didn't work because she was too sick to function. Finally months later she was able to start eating but every time she did, no matter what it was she violently puked. Going places with her was a nightmare because we always had to leave because she was so sick. Now, 3 years post op, she weighs 100 pounds, if that, and is in worse health than before the surgery. She looks like a diseased sickly person. Not at all what you want to be after losing weight. Due to lack of Vitamins and nutrients she lost all her teeth, most pulled from being rotten, her face is sunken in so bad she looks like a skeleton, she is weaker than anyone i've ever met. Just today she couldn't open a jar of sauce that i barely touched it and it popped open. She never eats. and still pukes when she does. Her skin hangs so badly it's mindblowing. Her bones are so brittle according to her she re-breaks her rib once a month or so. She lost almost all her hair. She is full Hawaiian and had beautiful thick hair, now it's think and barely fits in a ponytail. I have witnessed all this first hand. She was so much better overweight,. unhealthy, but a normal person. Her troubles made me think i never ever ever wanted this surgery, But after talking with her for hours i believe she doesn't try enough to take care of herself. She doesn't take vitamins, she doesn't go see a doctor for her troubles. I let what she is going through be a lesson that no matter what, with this surgery I have to be strong and keep a healthy lifestyle no matter what obstacles are thrown in my way. What she is going through is a horror story to me and a nightmare. I love my teeth, and my hair, and even though i am over weight i value my health and my strength. May not be the horror story your looking for but is an example of a bad outcome and poorly taking care of yourself.
  11. Hi, I am just now looking into getting RNY surgery. I was extremely against it until lately. My mother in law got RNY surgery 3 years ago. She was a big woman, almost 300 pounds, now she is barely over 100. (she's also 4'11). After she got her surgery she was extremely sick, couldn't eat a thing for months, Awhile later when she did eat, she puked and got so sick. Over the last 3 years she's lost all her teeth due to lack on Vitamins and lost most her hair. Her face is sunk in and she looks horrible. She was healthier when her BMI was 53 than she is now. After 3 years she still is really sick whenever she eats. She is miserable half the time and always puking. My main concern is becoming her. I have a son at home and i;m only 21. I have serious eating issues and can never lose the weight. I'm afraid of going through the surgery and never being myself again. I am ready for every change ahead of me, except losing hair and getting sick, and lacking in vitamins as she does. So I would love some advice for people who have had the surgery. Can you keep foods down? Have you lost hair? Are you too sick to do anything? Any advice or experiences will be greatly appreciated.
