Hello. My name is Kaye and I have been struggling to lose weight for it seems like all my life. If there is a program out there I have tried them all. I would lose a few pounds just to gain it all back plus some. I had blood clots in my right leg that filled my right lung in 2011. It almost shut down my right lung. My mobility was terrible. I could not walk very much without my legs starting to hurt.

At my highest weight I weighed in at 351 pounds. A trip to a vascular surgeon in 2012 got me started on the weight loss journey. He suggest weight loss surgery. He said without it I would form ulcers on my legs that would not heal. I was not going to lose my legs but I was scared of having surgery. So my doctor put me on a 1200 calorie diet. I lost a total of 35 pounds from August 2012 until July of 2013. I lost pounds but not inches. He started telling me once again that I needed to check into the weight loss surgery. I told him I was afraid of a heart or stroke during surgery that would put me in a nursing home. He told me to decided which would put me there first because I was a walking heart attack or stroke getting ready to happen. So I told him to contact them and set me up.

July 2103 was my first visit to the Bariatric Weigh Loss Center at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. My first visit with Lynn [C-PAC] was great. I weighed in at 310 pounds. I started on a diet preparing for surgery. 1500 calories, 120 proteins a day and if I went over on my calories make sure it is protein that put me over. It was great. I was losing weight but greater then that I was losing inches.

After many test with different doctors I was finally approved for surgery. My first surgery date was December 16,2013 but when I got there, with a terrible head cold and hard coughing, I was sent home. Dr. Alexander told me I would rip out my stitches when I coughed. I was disappointed but knew it was for the best. When I got home I started on medicine to clear me up. My new surgery date was set for December 30,2013. I finally had my surgery. I had a seizure the day after surgery. I had to stay two nights but I am back home now. In the hospital after my barium swallow I started having watery bowel movement several times a day. The doctor say it could be the barium or the food I was finally getting. Which was only Jell-O, broth [which I did not eat-Yuck], coffee, juice[1 part juice 2 parts water]. Well, it has been going on now for 3 days. Hoping it gets better soon. I go back to see Dr. Alexander Wednesday December 8,2014 for a check up. It this is still going on she and I , and Lynn need to discuss this.

All things considered I would not go back on having my gastric sleeve surgery. I have had lots of prayers and encouragement all along the way and I know when I get this problem with my bowels straightened out I will be feeling a lot better.

Stay healthy everybody,
Kaye
