    October 2013 Sleevers Roll call!

    Surgery date - 10/9/13 HW 298 CW 260 GW 150
  2. I never thought I would say this but, I'm nearly to the point of regretting my surgery. I was sleeved on 10-9-13 and have thrown up everyday since. today was a bad day. I have vomited 5 times today. I am following all the rules and just can't seem to get a break. I saw my Dr 4 days ago and he doesn't seem to be too worried. he did tell me to stay on stage 1 diet and not to advance yet. I'm so hungry and thirsty. I chose the sleeve so that I could loose slowly and enjoy my weight loss. since I can't hold anything down, IV already lost 25 pounds and obviously I'm not "enjoying" vomiting, muscle pain from vomiting, headaches from vomiting and dehydration, weakness and feeling wiped out all the time. Please tell me I'm not the only one who has felt with this. And PLEASE tell me it will get better.......
  3. DOS 10-9-13--- down 34 pounds! Hello my fellow sleevers! quick question, I went on my first walk today since surgery!! As some of you know I didnt have the greatest few weeks after surg. Anyhoo while walking I started having some pretty bad dizzy spells. There was one time I thought I was gonna have to sit down. I'm eating now and holding most everything down (sometimes I will spit up some slimy yukky junk and it's very small) and taking my Vitanins just fine, and also drinking plenty of fluids. Anyone else have this issue? I don't want to stop walking now that I have done it and I'm one if those wired people who actually like exercising. I checked my BP and sugar and they both are fine. I'm going to call my Dr tomorrow to let them know, but I thought I'd pick your brains first.

    Dizziness.....

Oh goodness. Yes please stay on top of it! This is a big surgery and I think most of us want to hit the road running. I have to tell my self that I just had surgery and I need to give my body the time it needs to recoup. I'm sorry you are having all these issues. I didn't have the greatest 2 weeks after surg. I couldn't keep anything down including Water. I was regretting my surgery but now I am truly happy I did it. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Hang in there! I can't believe Im saying this but it DOES get better! God Bless

    Dizziness.....

I took my BS when I got back home approx. 40 minutes after I started walking. My BP I took before and after walking. My BP has been wonderful since I woke up from surgery! Loving That. Yeah I know BS take some time to adjust so I went ahead and finished walking and took it when I got home, it was 99. BP 120/73 I will let you know what the Doc says! Thanks!

    7 days post op

Even though you are not on foods yet defiantly make sure you have taken in as much liq as you can before you chew your Vit. I did same thing after surg and girl know your pain! But once I filled my little pouch with warm broth I was able to take my Vit with no problem. Also, I was on the bariatric vit's which where about the size of a nickel (chewable) and my new pouch just didn't like them, once I switched to the Flinstone vit's , I was just fine. So you may need to try different vit's, everyone is different as well as our little pouches! Just need to find that certain one that works for you. LOL I'm stuck with a huge bottle of Bariatric orange flavored chewable vitamins that I paid $30.00 for and my new belly doesn't like them... oh well my kids em! lol.

    REGRETTING.....

Hey all! I just wanted to give you a quick update on how I'm doing. I'm doing so much better! My surg put me on Prilosec 40 twice a day and Protonix twice a day. it took a while but that did the trick. I'm doing better with eating and holding most everything down. I went for my first walk today and had some dizziness which I'm wondering if it's my potassium. calling doc tomorrow about that. thank you all so much!!!!! I truly don't know what I would have done without you!!! God Bless!

    REGRETTING.....

Hello all! Well I got 2 bags of fluid, a shot if Thiamin, and 2 piggy backs of nausea meds. I do feel so much better. When I arrived there my BP was 131/110!!! even at my highest weight I have never ran that high, however; I know that was due to the dehydration. After 2 hours BP dropped to 139/97 then at 4 hours back to normal 127/74. My Dr doesn't want to stretch my throat at this time just yet, so he went ahead and sent me home. He did switch me to suppositories and 2 other meds for my stomach. So I'm hoping the next 24 hours will be uneventful. I am still trying to be optimistic and positive! Getting over this bump in the road will be a blessing! Thank you my VSG family! I don't know what I would do without you!!!! God Bless each one of you!!!!!

    REGRETTING.....

Hi everyone! Wanted to update you. I am being admitted today for dehydration and a possible upper GI to have my throat stretched. This morning I was so dizzy I was running into walls. My kids sure thought it was funny, but I knew otherwise. I can't keep hardly anything down. I am really trying to stay optimistic. I know in the long run this will be so worth it. I just wanna get over these hurdles. I don't want people reading this and changing their minds about surgery because I know the end result will be added years to my life. However; 3 weeks of vomiting and dying of thirst, well,,, just plain sucks. I will keep everyone posted. I honestly don't know what I would do without my VSG family. Huggs to all!

    REGRETTING.....

Oh my goodness Pati! I can relate to you somewhat. June 2013 I tore my rotator cuff while on vacation. That is truly the worst surgery I have ever had. I am still in physical therapy for it. I can't even imagine having that on top of this surgery. I certainly know everyone is different when it comes to recovery from surgeries, but man I am sure waiting for that moment I can smile and say "I am so glad I did this". it is just miserable vomiting everyday. I don't think it's dumping syndrome because I'm not taking in hardly any sugar. I eat SUPER slow and right now I bet I'm only getting 700 calories a day and probably puking half of that up. I know this was probably the best thing I could have done for myself, but geesh, when does this end?!?!?!

    REGRETTING.....

Thank you to everyone that has posted on this topic. I knew this was going to be a hard road when I signed up for this. But I just don't think you can ever be "ready" enough. Forums like these really help and I thank you all!

    REGRETTING.....

I was never offered Zofran. The weird thing is, I don't have much nausea. I eat or drink and within a few minutes, there is no warning and up it comes. I am going to go in tomorrow to speak with my surgeon to see if I am having a stricture issue or I might need my throat stretched which is a common I hear. I was able to keep some mashed potatoes down today. So keeping my fingers crossed!!!

    REGRETTING.....

Oh QueenBee I'm so sorry your feeling crappy as well. I totally hear ya about "everyone says it gets better". I'm just hoping it's true. My issue is, I would think the further out we get from surgery, the lesser our symptoms get...... but that is not the case for me AT ALL! my symptoms are getting worse. I don't know if I'm 100% at that point of regret, but it sure is making its way there..... and quick. I hate to be so negative, but I am reminded if the viciousness of vomiting every time I swallow. My throat is just raw and my stomach, back and rib muscles ache all the time.

    REGRETTING.....

Thank you Lipsticklady. I might just check into this. MizB I have a follow up appointment this week to see my surgeon again due to the vomiting. I have been keeping a close eye on my symptoms with the electrolytes and all even though they can Chang at the drop of a hat. Iam going to call them Monday to get in sooner. Like everyone, I just wanted to have a smooth recovery and feel good after surgery, but that certainly is not what's happening. Just frustrated....

    REGRETTING.....

Lipstick lady, was that med for nausea or something else. I know lots of meds are used for many issues. thanks!

    REGRETTING.....

ya know, the weird thing is, I don't really have nausea. I can just drink or eat and it comes right back up. I literally will lick the back of my spoon from my soup, and start having bad stomach pain then I start vomiting again. Today I said " I'm done, I'm done trying to eat.". even though I know that's not the right thing to do.

    REGRETTING.....

Wow. I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm not taking anything for pain so I think I can rule that out. I'm just so sick of vomiting. As a nurse I know that I need to stay hydrated and get my protein in, but I feel like I'm taking 1 step forward and 5 steps back. ugh.
  20. Well I was planning on going back in 2 weeks but I'm not having the best recovery. I am neurosurgery nurse and I am very blessed with an understanding boss. Most of the sleeve patients at our hospital go back to work between weeks 2-5. I'm kinda a work-a-holic and wanted to get back ASAP, but my body has other plans. lol

    REGRETTING.....

Yes I was given phenergan, but that doesn't seem to help. Iam trying to keep up on my fluids as best as possible, but my stomach just isn't handling it. I keep saying this will get better as the swelling goes down, but I'm starting to lose hope.
  22. (sleeved 10-9) Hello all! well this is not a subject you talk about with just anyone!! lol. but I know my fellow sleevers would understand. My pre-op diet was 2 weeks full liquids, then had to do the wonderful bowel prep for surgery (which nothing happened) and now I'm 4 days post op and still have had no BM. Being a nurse I know this should be a cause for alarm and I should start hitting the MagCitrate, however; going this long with no BM you would think I would be uncomfortable/miserable...but... I don't even feel like there is anything in there! I'm not bloated, distended, or feel "full" at all!! I am and have been passing gas so I'm assured there's no blockage. Anyone else have the same issue. I am still very sore from surgery and would like to skip the "bomb" if at all possible to give my stomach a rest. Thanks my fellow sleevers and God Bless!
