I was banded on September 11, 2013. I had my first fill on November 7th. I had my second fill January 9th. It is January 17th and EVERY SINGLE DAY since my second fill I have been (almost) stuck!!!
Let me start by saying that my band is NOT too tight! I get my fills under fluro and that takes the guesswork out of it. THIS IS ALL MY FAULT!!!!!!!!
I own it. I am eating too quickly. My bites are probably a little too big. And as a result, I get stuck, kind of. It's not horrible like others have described, but it's enough to get my attention.
Before this second fill, my band was filled enough to keep me satisfied after eating but during the meals I didn't really have to pay much attention to what I was doing.
HOLY COW is it different now!!! And I'm not complaining! This is the way it is supposed to be....this is what I signed up for. I just got comfortable and complacent and now I am wide awake.
I am working on developing better habits so that I get the most out of my band. I refuse to be that patient who doesn't follow the rules and then tries to blame the band or the surgeon.
So I am putting it out there. I am taking ownership of my mistakes and publicly (sort of) making a commitment to change.
ok, that feels better now. Thanks for listening.

I don't know your age, but as a 70 year old, I can tell you, that you extra weight does have health consequences. My back, hips, and knees all need replacements or surgery. I'm one of the lucky ones as my genetics are good and so I don't have blood pressure, cholesterol, or diabetes. So you will save yourself by doing lb now instead of later. I was in the same boat as you, no one thought I needed surgery. I almost missed the opportunity to help myself. Wishing you all the best and I think you are making a wise decision. Let me know how you are doing. I will be banded the 27th of Jan. I am so excited and looking forward to a healthier body and life style.

My doctor put me on a l400 cal. diet for 2 weeks prior to my surgery..doesn't seem like much of a diet compared to what I read others are doing. I wonder if it is because I am a weight watcher?

I always been a happy person. When people ask me if I am happy about my weight loss I tell them it all about me being more healthier now.

The fact she did not allow herself to be photographed full body makes me doubt her "I'm totally happy with my weight" statement. Fat-acceptance subscribers are usually women still in their youthful years who have not yet felt the perfect storm of what obesity can do, and are not yet showing the markers of carrying all that extra weight: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, bad knees and ankles, aching back, PCOS, etc. It's easy to say "I love being fat" when your weight has not yet showed you what it can do to you.
I can't blame them for stopping the diet/binge cycle. Traditional dieting is doomed to failure, except in rare instances, and it is a dreary and depressing task to always be battling hunger and deprivation.
Thankfully I chose the lapband to help me do what I couldn't do by myself.
Am I happier at a lower weight today than I was last year at this time?
HELL YES. No question about it.
Happier, more mobile, certifiably healthier, wearing clothes I only dreamed I could wear a year ago, seeking ways to incorporate movement into each day, brave, fierce, self-confident and just all around in a good mood all the time.
I would not change places with that writer for a million bucks.

Well I would think that someone knowing would be the best thing. What if you have complications God forbid but they do occur. I was planning a same day procedure that turned into 3 days in the hospital because I could not stop vomiting. You never know with these surgeries and if you are going there for business when are you having surgery? You surely will not feel like doing anything at least for a week post op. I don't see how you can do it without telling anyone. You just never know what to expect or what will happen. We plan on one thing that seems simple but turns in to a nightmare. I would seriously think about telling someone that will be there for you just in case.

7 months ago I got together with my support team and decided that I wanted to loose 100lbs before my surgery. I didn't have a surgery date yet and was just working on that goal and waiting for insurance and stuff to get situated. Then they told me that my pre op is the 6th and my op is the 7th! I went in for my final goal weigh in and I've lost 118 lbs in 7 months! I'm so excited to get this done and be on my way to even more body changes and new experiences!

@ RSifers - I also feel like this is going to be the challenge of a lifetime! I'm nervous, but excited and hopeful also.
Have you January bandsters been telling people? I've been telling lots of friends and family about the procedure. The more people that know about my surgery, the more people I have in my "army" to support me.
I'm going on vacation in a couple days, and at the end of my vacation I start the pre-op diet. What a start to the new year!

cons of not having WLS........get bigger to where they would cut me out my housei was well on my way......and dying earlier then i needed too
pros of having WLS......better health, mobility, wearing size 14 jeans today (19 months ago they were stretch size 30).......and LIVING....
up to the person who has any WLS
to use it as the dr advises for best results....no one WLS is better than
the other no matter what anyone says......you will hear this is better or this is that
the majority of the rumors on the band is BS (people can write anything and people believe it).......and on any surgery, not just WLS....complications can happen and it is told to the patients so its not a surprise....but why spend the rest of my life going what if that because if i did that, i would be where i was before surgery......super morbid obese..
instead i took that chance, found my want power, woman'd up as my ole man and did what i HAD to do to make myself well with help of the lap band and plication....
whatever you get........WLS, do the best you can with it.......
    and see what happens.......

Hi again, I feel like I have made the cheerleaders squad since I joined bariatric pal! Go Team!! WIN, WIN, WIN...but to win we have to lose.
I live in the St. Louis area and am the oldest lap bander...I just turned 70! You are so lucky that you are having surgery so young. I'm sure it will save your hips and knees, etc. I feel younger just thinking about losing weight. My hips and knees and back are also Cheering me on.
    GO TEAM!
