January RNY Surgery
Hey, I discovered a tip for getting water down. It seemed like no matter the size swallow, even drinking I always had this choking sensation at the bottom of my esophagus/chest/throat.....hot tea! For some reason the heat relaxes those vessels. I was able to sip a full cup of tea without feeling like I was dying....

Email from Cousin
You'll do great....and yes we all have to use the tools your cousin mentioned. You just also happened to select weight loss tool 2.0 as well for your mission. You were well aware of the resources you would need on the journey moving forward. Do you. :-)

Post-op tomorrow yeah!
Take it slow. One moment at a time. Ask for what you need. From everyone. Try not to be surprised by anything. Welcome to the beginning :-)

Help, please! Premier Protein shakes taste awful to me.. Need recommendations!
For me the problem with premier is that it's too thick and then its too bland and too sweet. Its at least what my post op taste buds are telling me. My NUT approved mixing half an 11oz container with nonfat milk. It thins it out. Too add a chocolate punch, I add a scoop of unsweetened cocoa powder. Now it's got a depth of flavor and the bitterness that I like in my chocolate. Add back in a little sweetener or sf syrup....but I'm newly post op at home and have time for that kind of stuff. But it's so much better know......

Eating and drinking at the same time.
I also downloaded the Eat Slower timer app. You can set it to train you to take longer bites. I also try and look at my four year old and how she eats. She takes such slow tiny bites and has all this business between bites. Wiggling, asking questions, going to bathroom, feeding the dog from the table. She leaves half her food...and goes about her business of playing. I never ask her to eat more like I was as a kid. I just feed her every time she asks for food. It's truly amazing to me. We don't arrive broken. Families can nurture or nature a food problem. We are not biological related and I don't think she'll have my problems if I can get my eating habits in check. I've always eaten fast prior to surgery because I've wanted to eat over my hunger sensations. I didn't want to know if I hungry, full or satisfied. Most times I would sit down for the meal already full or satisfied and I would eat seconds and thirds on a what could already be considered the second dinner in the first place!! I've heard ppl talk about eating until satisfied not full but my set point was eat until misery set in. That's when I felt I was worthy of getting up. Then I would wonder why I was so always so exhausted....sorry for the rambling..... :-)

How upfront was your surgeon about a goal weight?
I know. I know gowalking.......I'm definitely happy I made this decision for health and quality of life reasons. Maybe I came off as a weight loss surgery rookie asking about goal weight right out the gate, but I'm not. Well, I am new to the surgery part of it, but I've lost 140 pounds and kept it off within 15 pounds prior to having surgery....for 8-9 years.... I'm bored and home for several weeks just striking up conversation..being a chatty Cathy, but thanks for the reminder.... :-) not planning a weigh in for a while..

How upfront was your surgeon about a goal weight?
My surgeon has not murmured a peep about a goal weight for me. She's only given her practice averages based on each surgery. If your surgeon gave a goal weight, who's was more motivating theirs or yours? How many pounds were they different? Reading all this stuff about bounce weight and stretch goals etc.....

Smoking weed pre op
You'll be fine. Munchies depend on strain. Addiction is a potential issue as far as transfer addictions go but not likely. A topical salve and acupuncture can help with the pain just a effectively. You will likely need less as the weight comes off....Good luck.

New here and op's next week - scared!
Yup. Just go with the flow as with any research I would throw out the very best and very worst. They are not the norm. I needed pain meds but they just made me so sleepy and less aware. Everyone's tolerance is different. But you will need an IV to get these medicines and the anesthesia but that's the least of it really....

What do you look forward to when you lose all the weight?
So, about two years ago I bought this house with a pool...yeah, it would be nice to not freak out every time swimsuit time comes rolling around. I'm always trying stuff myself into something random and horrible and during parties instead relaxing and enjoying friends I usually had been so focused on food and stuffing my face.....ready to let that go.....

Back in the hospital:'(

Weight loss surgery on Public Radio this morning
I've known that piece about it being for years as treatment for stomach, but is this what causes the of the lack of long term data in comparison to the bypass? Most folks that were treated with vsg had died in 5-10 due to other complications?

DON'T STOCK UP!
You could not tell me I was not going to continue to love chocolate and vanilla after this surgery. No way....my fantasies involve chocolate falling from the sky! I didn't go too crazy and I loved my pre-op chocolate shakes and I made sure I had plenty on hand. But fast forward to today, 5 days post-op and I cannot even stand to look at them. Luckily, I had been on this site long enough to go get some Syntrax nectar Fuzzy Navel. Yum. I would never drink fruity stuff before. I hope my tastes change back soon...or I'll be selling Premier Protein and

Just starting out
First off, welcome! And congratulations on your decision to take control of your health. Search these boards. This question is discussed and answered ad naseum. People choose different surgeries for many different reasons. I'm glad your friend is supportive but he is not a bariatric surgeon. Your reflux will likely increase or become worse with the sleeve. There is malabsorption with the bypass but that is not a reason to throw it out completely. Just because your insurance will approve quickly does not mean you shouldn't give yourself the time you need to make the right choice for you. Sounds like you just need to do a little bit more research and this is the place to do it! :-)

Weight loss surgery on Public Radio this morning
Well I bet the comments are crazy. There is so much hate, ignorance and jealousy (from fat and skinny alike). There are some very vocal problem-focused folks that have failed their surgeries out there on YouTube. The struggle is real and until the surgeries start taking place in our heads many will always struggle....I'm afraid.

I'm out....
Maybe postpone your date and give yourself more time to think and to prepare your family and line up since care. March 15th is actually two months away! I have a 4 year old and I was terrified of dying on the table! I'd never had anesthesia before but I'm 4 days out and every thing went perfectly. Just think about all the people ask over the world who have surgery in this country everyday.....And wake up... my child actually motivated to me to have the surgery. I wanted a chance to be a normal mom, to play, have fun and not be exhausted all the time....ultimately, it is up to you but with a support system in place, you could rock this!
