  1. i am 5 weeks out and for lunch today i had half a turkey sandwich on toasted rye bread and wondering if i messed up ......could i have the rye bread at all?

    1. Chelly

      Chelly

Did your nutritionist give you guide lines of what to eat and what not to eat?

IMO it was to soon to eat bread even if it is toasted.

Contact your nutritionist and refresh the guidelines for each stage after surgery.

  2. Had my surgery doing pretty well over all. gas pain so far is the worst! using gas x strips they seem to help.

    1. Chelly

      Chelly

I was going to suggest those.

I think they are the best to use and I happen to use them still on occasion to help me when I need it.

Walking as much as you can will help too to release the gas from your body.

Congratulations on doing this for yourself and the best of luck to you on your journey to a healthier and happy you.

  3. so many of my meds give me dry mouth so i am drinking water ALL DAY LONG...and i consume 60-80 oz of water a day....i can't imagine not being able to drink like i do now after surgery

    1. Chelly

      Chelly

You will after surgery be able to build up to that again without a problem.

You need to consume that much water on a daily basis after surgery.

You also will probably decrease your meds as you progress on your path to healthier and smaller you.

Don't worry about it everything will fall into place.

  5. I had my birthday party last night. The good news: I can eat cake without feeling sick. The bad news: I can eat cake without feeling sick.

      Happy Birthday!!!

Was it worth the calories? Was it the best you ever had? If the answer is no then don't do it again.

Having a party is to be with people you care about not about the eating of the food, IMO....

You've have come such a long way and remember that the next time so you don't go there again to eat sweets.

You worked so hard at your achievement that it's just not worth eating sweets.

The end of the lecture for today.

      Keep going strong.

  8. omg had my surgery on thursday. I have been in so much pain! I hope to be feeling better quickly! I hate how terrible I feel.

    1. Chelly

      Chelly

Hi, and congratulations on having the surgery. For now just have your pain meds handy and keep them in your system until you feel better and then slowly scale down on them so it won't be a shock to your system. The pain will go away and you will feel better. Take it easy and have your protein and your water just like you were instructed and you will be fine.

  10. When will the swelling in my stomach go down?, Almost 3 weeks out and I went from 42inch waist before surgery to a 47 after.

    1. Chelly

      Chelly

Really you should take to your surgeon's office about the swelling and ask them what they think about it.

I don't remember having swelling like that.

      Take care.

  11. L'shana tovah!

  14. Had my Pre-Op class yesterday, I assume it was informative but I felt like I already knew most of the information that was given. 3 more weeks left.

      Chelly

Hopefully the bariatric meetings you go to will always add new information for you.

I go every month and there is a different speaker there each month and it's geared to the new pre op people and also the vetertans of post op.

I hope you get what you want from it.

  15. Still feeling hopeless and like such a failure. I wish I could have the sleeve surgery before my wedding in December because I feel so ugly.

    1. Chelly

      Chelly

When I got married to my husband I was obese and was our entire married life until I decided to have surgery last year. Before surgery over a 7 year period I lost 68 lbs without putting much effort into and knew if I didn't start myself on this journey in May of 2013 I would never get healthy without surgery. So from May to September surgery I lost 40 lbs. I watched what I ate and exercised. I am now 190 lbs lighter and my husband is thrilled because I'm healthy for the first time in our marriage. Your hubby to be loves you for you and all of you. He's probably your best friend and that's the greatest thing of all to marry your friend because it lasts much longer and is more intense of a love. Be happy and enjoy all the precious moments you have together. Take care.

  16. Finally got over to the Vitamin Store on base and picked up a couple of Quest bars and a pack of ISO 20 Gel. Tried the Quest (chocolate Brownie) bar...OMGoodness! I won't miss a thing with this baby around!

    1. Chelly

      Chelly

I eat quest bars all the time. I love cookies and cream, chocolate chip cookie dough, vanilla almond, coconut cashew, apple pie, banana nut muffin, cinnamon roll, and a few others. You are right with these around who needs other sweets.

  17. I feel silly being happy about this because I have SO far to go but I can use my seat belt now without an extender :)

  20. I finally had my surgery on July 7th and surprisingly I have had very little issues. The usual pain in the shoulder from gas is really the extend of my issues. I am dwn 16lbs. since my surgery so I am very pleased with that. My only problem is that I feel that I am not taking in enough nutrition. I usually have breakfast and lunch but don't usually have dinner because I am hungry. I am of Caribbean decent and want to introduce some variety in my diet but don't know what to include. Anyone out there can help me?

You MUST EAT ALL OF YOUR PROTEIN!!! It's a without a doubt the most important thing to do or you won't heal properly and you will start to loose your hair from the lack of it. To add flavor to your food use seasonings at this point. You could look up recipes for different foods on The World According To Eggface. It's on google to find.

  22. my surgery is tomorrow morning and of course i'm scared. And i'm starting to get a headache i havn't ate nothing all day and i'm not allowed. If i'm diabetic and bs drops ...what will i do?

    1. Chelly

      Chelly

Oh I would contact your surgeon and ask this question immediately to ease your mind about it. I'm sure they have an answering service to get a hold of them.

That's the best info I can give you or anyone can give you.

  23. 7 weeks out and even drinking a bit of wine! Still losing and doing pretty well. Having some problems eating as slow as I need to but I'm learning. Protein still not perfect every day. Using My Fitness Pal religously to try to keep track. Helps with fluid intake and exercise too. Had to get new bras this week and it was actually FUN for once. Staying positive on the little things!

    1. Chelly

      Chelly

Protein is number one in priority....

If you don't get in all your protein you will have problems with hair loss and not healing as well as you're suppose to.

Just thought I would remind you.

Just so you know wine contains sugar and lots of calories so be careful.

  24. 150 lbs gone!!! feeling so good!

I agree it's a great feeling to be over half my size smaller from my original weight of 8 yrs ago.

I'm so glad I did this surgery last year.

      You look wonderful.
