  1. Please don't feel down because of two individuals that in my opinion are mean, jealous fools who are really bad uncaring people. They are no kind of friend if they act this way towards you. Your date will be here sooner then you expect. The time will go very fast. You should be very proud that you are taking this step to better health. Good luck with your upcoming surgery.
  2. I take chewables of Biotin from Twinlabs called biotin dots. I take chewable calcium citrate which you can get from costco, Celebrate Vitamins, and other Vitamin companies. I take Flinestones multi chewable vitamins from Costco ( they're the cheapest for them) because that's what my surgeon says to take and I believe they have an easier Iron to digest in them. I swallow Omega 3 and Vitamin D. Also B12 which I get at Costco too is suppose to go under your tongue or it won't be absorbed into your body. That is once a week I take that. So this is what I take and do.

what foods YOU cannot eat anymore?

No that's defeating the purpose of having this surgery done by chewing it and spitting it out. You must stick to your program that your surgeon and nutritionist come up with for you to be successful. Now onto what I use to curb my cravings for sweets. I use Quest Bars. They have 20 or 21 grams of Protein in them. They are made with stevia not sugar. They come in many flavors to enjoy. I also have sugar free Bomb Pops Popsicles. You could have sugar free Jello, or sugar free pudding and add unflavored Protein powder to it to help get in your protein. I also use Torani sugar free flavored syrups that are made with Splenda in my Protein drinks to kick hem up a notch in flavor. They come in many flavors and you can get them from the company or World Market if there is one in your area. I have yet to had the craving for salty things so I can't help you there. I wish you luck with your surgery.

    After surgery question about eating

Yes eating like that does not last trust me. I do not eat like that at all now and haven't for awhile. You have to eat or drink slowly after surgery because your pouch is very small and can only hold at the max 4 oz after a few weeks. You will be healing and any more then an ounce or two will make you sick and truthfully you won't want any more then that right after surgery. Remember that with gastric bypass they shrink your stomach size by 85%. As the weeks progress and you can eat and drink more you will not be eating every couple of hours. Please try to relax on this subject and just look forward to the end results of a healthier and trimmer you.
  6. I just put a new after picture on my profile if you want to look.

  7. I take Biotin Dots chewables by Twinlab. Your body does much better with absorbing chewables of any Vitamin. hair loss can happen in months 4,5,and 6. Your hair will replenish itself if it falls out any. I have short hair so what I lost wasn't visible really. Don't let this worry you. Good luck with your future surgery.
  8. I weighed at one time 350 back in 2006. Over the seven years prior to my first meeting with the surgeon I lost 68 lbs on my own no special way. I had been heavy all my life. I once lost 150 but gained it all back and then some. The best gift I gave myself was gastric bypass surgery. I haven't been weighed since the end of March so I don't know if I'm at goal or not. You see I don't own a scale and don't plan on ever buying one. I'm a work in progress. Since surgery I no longer take meds for high blood pressure, diabetes, or cholesterol. I am also off of other meds or have cut down a lot. I've gone down from a 34/36 clothes to a 12/14 in size in pants and a large/extra large in tops. I'm proud of that. I work out 4x a week on the stationary bicycle and do 9+ miles in 40 minutes. I wish you all continued success.
  9. I just got into a size 12 pair of Old Navy jeans tonight.

  10. I'm 52 and everyone who has seen me says that I look younger. I look at the before and progression picture I posted under my name and I can see I look younger too. Since I've lost the weight I exercise 9+ miles on the stationary bicycle without being out of breath 4x a week. I can walk longer and longer distances. I can go up and down the stairs with less of a problem. I'm off CPAP and most of my meds. No more high blood pressure, no diabetes, no high cholesterol. So don't let the doubting people in your life deter you from having this surgery because you will be so glad you did it in the long run. Best of luck to you with your up coming surgery.

    Lovin my protein shake

I use Torani sugar free syrups in my shakes. They are made with Splenda. They come many, many flavors. You can get them directly from the company, from World Market, Amazon, or eBay. Just a good change of pace.
  12. I stopped drinking diet soda four months before surgery and I watched what I ate and worked out and lost forty pounds. This number includes my two week liquid diet too. My surgeon required that I loose fifteen pounds before surgery to help reduce fatty liver. I would say that the majority of us have fatty livers and that's why we have to loose the weight prior to surgery to make it easier for the surgeon to do the surgery. I wish you the best of luck with your up coming surgery.
  13. This is wonderful news. Congratulations! Here's to feeling better.

  15. I had two week, one month, three months, six months and will at one year with both surgeon and nutritionist. After that yearly with both surgeon and nutritionist. At three months and six months I had blood work. No X-rays needed for I had no problems. I have the opportunity to contact them any time with problems or questions via phone or internet. I go monthly or bimonthly to support meetings run by the network of surgeons, nutritionists, therapists, physician assistants and other speakers. This group takes care of their patients very well.

    5 weeks out

You're doing wonderful.... Don't be frustrated and don't worry because your on the right path to better health. You've been through a major surgery and your body is healing and it takes as I was told by my surgeon and nutritionist that it takes a year for the body to fully recover and heal inside. May I make the suggestion that you take pictures of yourself weekly and watch your progression appear before your eyes. Pictures are a great tool to watch your progression. Another thing you could do is take your measurements and keep a chart of your progression that way. You'll be amazed with at your results when you see them in the pictures and your chart.

    Stomach growls

I make noises too. I think it's coming from the intestines too while processing things and move down the line so to speak. It usually doesn't hurt and sometimes loud like you said. I don't think it's anything just annoying at times. You're doing great keep up the good work.

    Three months post op

You're doing incredible. You should be very pleased with yourself. If you are weighing yourself everyday DO NOT do that..... It's bad for your self image. Your nutritionist and surgeon would say the same thing. It's self defeating. If you are going to weigh yourself do it once a week on the same day at the same time wearing the same clothes. That's our lecture for today. LOL Keep going on the path you are on and everything will be fine.
  19. I saw my surgeon before surgery and in the hospital. For my check ups I see the PA. She took care of checking me out at first check up. Then at three months, then at six months and don't go again until my one year check up. After the one year I will go to her every year to be checked up on. I also can contact her any time I have a problem or question. I also she the nutritionist on the same schedule. If I were you I would tell them you want to be seen for a follow up. Let us know what happens.
  20. I just from the monthly Bariatric meetings I go to and it was very supportive. I've never have heard anyone being really negative about any of the surgeries they've had. I look forward to going every month and sometimes I go to a second one. So no problem here.

    WLS

Anita, Try to relax about everything. Each test is done for reason. Your surgeon wants to make sure that you are in the best shape possible to do the surgery safely. When I did my surgery I was required to meet with my primary care physician four times over a three month period, then I had all the various tests to do at the same time. My first meeting with the surgeon was in May and my surgery was in September. I'm doing very well after the surgery. I had no complications from it. I follow everything that I was told to do to let myself heal properly. So follow the guidelines your surgeon and nutritionist give you and everything will be fine. The best of luck to you for your upcoming surgery.

    Liquid diet

Follow what your surgeon says it's very important. The reason you have to do this is to reduce your liver for surgery to make it easier for the surgeon to get to your stomach. Remember that after surgery you will be on liquids for a few weeks to help your new sleeve to heal. Your sleeve is delicate and takes months for it to heal properly. I know this even though I had gastric bypass I was first preparing for the sleeve and didn't change procedures until two weeks before surgery. Please don't cut corners here you need to do this for everything to go right with surgery. I wish you the best with your upcoming surgery.

    Pre-Op Question

Hi NieMarie, The endoscopy was one of the last things I did from my list of requiremenrs from the surgeon and insurance. For most people that list of requirements takes several months to do to get approval from their insurance company. I see from your message that your doing three of the requirements in one day and that's a lot to do in one day. I wish you the best in doing those. Didn't your surgeon give you a time frame of how long it would take to do everything required to get approved from insurance? What about your nutritional meetings don't you have those too? I'm just curious. I hope everything goes well for you and the best of luck with your surgery.
