FIRST horrible day since surgery on the 10th

Forget protein for a day or two focus on fluids even if it's a few drops in your cheeks from a medicine dropper every 5 minutes. Even if you can't get the water down it will absorb in your cheeks. Try Popsicles they count as fluid. Good luck

New Here, And Just Starting This Journey

I've been getting ready for a few months started with a surgeon that only did RNY & band... Something kept pulling me back to the Sleeve...so I seen a new surgeon today, the office manager told me because I started the process with the other surgeon that I could get the surgery within weeks not months......I felt really comfortable with the surgeon I met today, my previous surgeon always seemed very busy. I've thought about WLS for years and would tell myself I should just finally get this weight off myself, quickly I realized my body would only allow me to lose 25-30 pounds and then slowly regain even with excessive exercise and low carb diet..... It works for a while but always SLOWLY creeps back on....... I'm thinking late December early January for me, maybe be can be across country buddies, I'm in Cali

    Dr. Ara Keshishian

Hello, I am a pre-op newbie and am going to Dr. Keshishian's orientation in a couple of weeks. Did you end up using him? They reassured me at his office that there would not a be a program fee for the gastric sleeve. I am wondering if that changes or if he pressures to have DS. My BMI is 39.1, Im 5'5" and weigh 235 pounds, I would prefer to have the sleeve. If anyone else here is a pre-op newbie and using this Dr. let me know I would like to communicate. My e-mail is DeeThrowner@aol.com Thanks, Deanna
  7. Ok I'm pre-op.... Was traveling two hours to a surgeon and then found out about the non-covered fee.... Began exploring my options and I found a surgeon closer to me only 45 minute drive and he only does the Duodenal Switch and the Sleeve....nurse told me on the phone that he will discuss why he does not do the RNY at the seminar.....I'm just curious now because I notice that surgeons are pretty biased about which surgeries they do and why? I also notIced the new surgeon repairs RNYs to DS...anyhow, I'm now considering the Sleeve because it seems like there are less complications..... I hate to say it but, on these message boards I hear a lot of people having problems with the RNY and not so much on the Sleeve forums...... I'm so confused.... Someone mentioned a WLS decision workbook and I ordered one from Amazon. Did anybody go from sleeve to RNY? If so why? Thanks!

    pumpkin spice protein shake

I found some pumpkin purée canned at the dollar store, it has more protein than carbs and a ton of vitamin A.... You should be able to add it to anything with some spices

Sleeve to Bypass, NO NO NO?

I opted for the bypass because of dumping and malabsorption .... Mainly because I doubt myself and my ability to stay away from carbs....I'm supposed to get RNY Nov/Dec but found out today my surgeon has a $1100 fee above and beyond what insurance will pay, must have $500 up front..... The office is two hours away so I'm already out that extra expense....I chose them because they are a center of excellence ....but there's no way I can come up with $500 and then January 1st my $2000 deductible starts again......long story short I found a surgeon closer to me (no fee) but he will only do a sleeve or DS.... Ill get the sleeve because of no fee....from what I have heard the bypass helps with heartburn issues. Tell me how your sleeve went? how were carb cravings?

    PCP medical clearance

Thank you so much.... Getting in to see my PCP is the difficulty..... Was 15 mins late (car trouble), and they cancelled my appointment...couldn't get me back in for another month.....I seen the Physicians Assistant as a walk-in, never seen her before.....she would not clear me for surgery because I have lost 20 pounds in the past year....from 252 to 232 losing about 1.5 pounds per month and regaining in there too a few times of about 5 pounds......but, she said just keep up the good work 20 pounds in a year is good....meanwhile I'm on Vicodin for knee pain just to be able to exercise....and physical therapy and chiropractor so in another 5 years ill be at my goal weight! Lol! Some people have no clue ...... Calling everyday to check for cancellations....I need clearance by Oct.28th so I can schedule surgery then, shooting for week before Thanksgiving, I'm certain my PCP will give me clearance

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

I'm still not sure if ill be in November or December so I'm following this thread as well as November surgeries. I'm 36 years old, have weighed over 200 pounds since I was 16.....CW 232 HW 252....... I have lost 20 pounds over the last year.....was supposed to see my PCP today but ended up with the Physicians Assistant who said I don't need weight loss surgery because I've lost 20 pounds in the last year.....oh then she said the results of my knee X-rays did not show any arthritis (in pain everyday for years now), she said they concluded my knee pain was from my weight and "good job keep doing what your doing"........ I was frustrated but I'm just going back to see my PCP ASAP, I know he will clear me for surgery because him and I have been talking weight loss for the passed year. I have 4 kids and a long term boyfriend who is hesitant but supportive so far. I've got everything done except two more appointments with surgeon (oct 28 and Nov 11) then pre-op consult and lab work .....waiting for a cancellation to go back and see my PCP....possible surgery dates are Nov 20th, 27th, or December 18th or 30th. We should get bonus points for doing this around the holidays

  18. Just looking for some insight: Tomorrow is my first consultation appointment, its a 4 hour appointment with a nutrition class and a surgical consult, they say not to eat anything one hour prior to appointment. Why nothing to eat for one hour? labwork? I have Medicare and have already done one nutritionist appointment through my primary Dr. and am scheduled for a different nutrition class through my regular Primary Dr........What should I expect from this first consultation appointment at the surgeons office? Why is it 4 hours long? I'm going to Advanced Bariatrics in Fresno, CA.......Thanks!

    Preop appointment today

    Is it something new?
  21. DeeMotionalEater

    before surgery

I'm attending my first consultation next week which consists of a two hour nutrition class.... Is there a certain time limit they give you to lose the weight? That seems stressful .... By the way, I'm new here, how do I start a new thread? I'm signed in but still can't figure it out Thanks!
