Just looking for some insight: Tomorrow is my first consultation appointment, its a 4 hour appointment with a nutrition class and a surgical consult, they say not to eat anything one hour prior to appointment. Why nothing to eat for one hour? labwork? I have Medicare and have already done one nutritionist appointment through my primary Dr. and am scheduled for a different nutrition class through my regular Primary Dr........What should I expect from this first consultation appointment at the surgeons office? Why is it 4 hours long? I'm going to Advanced Bariatrics in Fresno, CA.......Thanks!

every doctor is different so its hard to say. I can tell you mine was long because of paperwork, medical history review. physical exam, they went through all my medications and discussed what i could and couldnt take. It took about three hours. I didnt eat anything the day of my visit because i knew theyd order fasting bloodwork and i wanted to go get it done that same day.

Don't worry it will be fine. I agree with lisalisalisa. They will have list of things to go over with you and labs. It can be overwhelming there is a lot of information maybe bring someone with you if you can.
