stephjoysm got a reaction from meyouus in Hubby and I am back and forth about getting a RNY, your Opinions?
This is your struggle. I think the bypass would be a good tool for you. I got the bypass just a few months ago back in July. I know what you mean when you say food addiction. With the bypass though, if you try to eat a piece of cake, you won't regret it a year later when you've regained all the weight. You will regret that cake right that second. I believe the bypass has worked so well for me so far because it has a punishment that is so uncomfortable I'm scared to tempt its wrath. Suddenly that cake or cheeseburger or whatever it might be is not worth feeling so sick. It's hard at first. But once you adjust and experience what the RNY does for you, the diet part becomes second nature. Just the thought of a bite of cake makes me nauseous. Maybe that's what you need too. My mom got the lap band several years ago and has done great with it but she wishes that she had done the bypass instead because the band doesn't have a punishment for going off the diet so she is constantly losing and gaining the same 5-7 pounds because once in a while she folds to her cravings. Hope this helped.

stephjoysm got a reaction from mamafine23 in I have arrived in One-derland!
Good morning everyone! At least it's morning here in California. I have some exciting news to share. I am a week from being seven months out and this weigh day marked my 100 pound weight loss. I am down to 167 pounds and 33.5 inches all around my body, I have lost 10 pant sizes, I'm starting to get muscle tone now, and what I'm super excited about- I FIT ON ROLLER COASTERS AGAIN!
Tell me something you were excited about when you hit One-derland, or what you hope to do once you get there.

I believe that your husband will support your choice to take a step towards a healthier lifestyle. I can understand his concern but the RNY, in my opinion, is the best tool you can have in your corner when you are battling weight loss. I feel like the RYN surgery has not only physically changed my eating habits by only allowing me to eat very small portions but I credit it with also mentally changing my eating habits. I make better choices when deciding what to put into my body. That's not to say I don't occasionally allow myself a taste of something I'm not allowed to have. But that's all, just a taste. I don't need to have sugar bomb deserts anymore. I don't need that late night calorie monster snack. The sick feeling is totally not worth the 5 seconds of eating that food.
I really think this is what you need. I believe having a consequence, especially after you've experienced said consequence, will really help you stop and think about what you are eating and also stop to decide what foods you want and what foods you actually need.

stephjoysm got a reaction from Marisela in My first salad!
I am just over 7 weeks out and had been dying for a salad. While I was out running errands my dad asked me to stop and get him a subway sandwich. While I was ordering his sandwich I noticed the chopped salad sign.
They put what you want in a big giant salad bowl and then chop it up into little pieces with this big hand blade. It's perfect! I ordered spinach with turkey breast, bell pepper, onion, olives and banana peppers with vinegar instead of dressing. It's awesome. It's kind of big I finished maybe a third of it.

stephjoysm got a reaction from Fairyluver75 in Eee! First restaurant outing!
Ok so the restaurant we went to was a bust. I couldn't order a roll without the rice (some restaurants do that). Ok no big ill just look at the fish or chicken. ALL TERIYAKI!! Ugh. So I asked for it with no sauce. They couldn't do that. So I tried tuna sashimi thinking it would be like the tuna in the sushi rolls. Negative. It tasted fishy and gross. While we were eating three other people came in and asked if they could order sushi without the rice. Why wouldn't a restaurant evolve to accommodate special diets? That's three checks that walked out the door in an hour.
Anyway, I won't give up on sushi but I will be more picky about how my food is prepared.

stephjoysm got a reaction from pianogal7733 in Corn?!?
I went back through my diet plan from the doctor and my nut and there was nothing on there that said no corn. So I made the recipe and everything went just fine. I tried to eat just a few kernels at a time and chewed them until there was just about nothing left. It went down easy and I don't have any blockage symptoms.

Ok so Disneyland has been my favorite place in the entire world except for maybe disney world since I was 2. I am now 22 and I still love it. Trust me I'm a Disney fanatic I could probably answer any Disneyland question, I've even won tickets on the radio from a trivia contest.
Anyway, one week before my surgery my boyfriend and I went to Celebrate my college graduation and his birthday. I was just wondering if anyone has gone since their surgery. I'm more interested in one year out or less.
How was your experience now that you are post op?
    WHAT DID YOU EAT?!?
Did you feel tired or run out of gas?
    Was staying hydrated a challenge?

I was craving pickles so bad. I loved them before surgery and was dying for a slice of pickle. I can't eat solid food for another two days so I took a sip of the Pickle Juice from the jar

OMG it was amazing. I had to put the jar away before I drank the whole thing. I've never craved pickles so bad before. Could it have been the salt?

stephjoysm got a reaction from karlam29 in New here, three weeks out
It's been a little hard so far. My doctors have really strict food phases. I've seen a lot of people say they are two weeks out and are eating normal food already and I'm so jealous. The worst thing has been having to eat the same thing for two weeks. I'm on the soft foods diet so I am only allowed to eat mashed hard boiled eggs (which I hate), cottage cheese (which i hate) oatmeal (which I hate) cream of wheat, refried Beans, plain Greek yogurt ( which I also hate) and mashed potatoes. I'm halfway done with my second week of soft foods and just the thought of having to eat refried Beans or mashed potatoes ever again sickens me. If prefer not to eat at all then to eat mashed potatoes and refried beans. But it's almost over and then I can have salad and ground beef and actual food. ???? So excited.
