I'm So grateful for this blessing. I have lost my mother, grandmother, child cousin, and aunt to cancer. I have a hatred for the disease and I'm always overwhelmed with joy anytime someone beats the demon. Many blessings to you and your family.

My favorite pair of prescription sunglasses no longer fit and it is soo frustrating. I wear them with hats and scarfs so I can anchor them on my face lol

Not fitting in an airplane seat prompted my research into bariatric surgery. When I fit without an extender, it was a SWEET VICTORY!!!!

Ok. So @@Dub we need to sponsor a bariatric bbq. You Grill and I'll handle the sides. :-) But as far as first solids I went straight to chicken breast marinated with lemon, garlic and fresh herbs and London broil medium well with grilled unions, peppers and mushrooms. I just really wanted a thick piece of meat!

Lol...in my house having off limit bins/hampers are THE only solution. I was angry till I realized me and my son wear the same size t-shirt so to him it can't be mom's so must be sister's. Save the stress and keep my clothes separate.

The stories and photos are all so inspiring - thanks for sharing! On Sunday I hit 5 months post-op. So far I'm down 71 lbs from my HW of 250 lbs. In the first couple of months I lost quickly, but since the beginning of August the rate has slowed to 1-2 lbs a week. Guess I'll have to live with that. At least they're not going up! I've just added exercise to my life so maybe that will speed things up a little again. Either way, I am very happy to be where I am now and look forward to a longer, happier life!

@@gbveteran4d I don't think you asked this question to be personally attacked. However, it seems you may have opened up a can of worms. That being said, I'll just share with you what we discussed in our monthly meeting this past Monday. Our meeting was comprised of post-ops from 5 weeks to 11 months out. Our psychologist is the one who runs the meeting and she's wonderful. She wrote on the board "food Quality"! We all had our surgery at mayo. We all attended the same pre-op classes. We all were given the exact same booklet which I've posted pages from on this forum with what to eat at each stage of this process. Some of us read and studied the guidelines and some did not. Page 14 (shown here) is very specific when it states "Avoid these foods permanently: carbonated beverages, tough meats or meats with gristle, fried foods, crusty or doughy breads." Well a man in the meeting who's 3 months post-op proudly stated "I ate 2 slices of pizza (doughy bread) and a diet Coke yesterday and I was just fine. Why before my surgery I could eat a whole pizza". The Dr. didn't make a face, wasn't judgmental, but simply asked him his opinion on the food's quality. He didn't have an answer. This same man was in a wheelchair prior to WLS. Some people just don't get it. I don't think you're one of those people. I think you may be pushing the envelope because you don't believe in your heart of hearts that this tool you've been given will actually work for you. I told very few people I was having gastric bypass because I felt that way myself. I honestly thought, it will work for everyone else, but not me. It will just be another one of my diet failures. After all, that's what's always happened to me in the past. Then I finally listened to what we were being taught ... this isn't brain surgery, it's gut surgery. If we're not willing to change what we put into our mouths, we will fail once again. It's just that simple. That's why Mayo no longer performs lap band surgery because they found simply restricting food intake doesn't produce long term success. I made a vow to myself that I would do everything in my power to find and tweek recipes so I could enjoy the foods I love but with Bariatric compliant recipes. So far, so good, especially with my pizza (crust is made with ground chicken breast, is high Protein and tastes amazing). For the first time in 25+ years I feel there's hope for me. I encourage you to seek help and find your answer. Definitely NO judgement from me, only support and positivity because YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!

I find some of the responses on this forum hilarious. All these fat or formerly fat people saying "you need to eat better! No carbs! Eat only Protein. Drink 900 oz of Water bc you're confusing thirst with hunger"
Why did you all get this surgery in the first place? If you were so good at watching everything you put in your mouth and controlling your portions and carbs you wouldn't have needed this surgery. The whole point of getting bypass is that diet and exercise alone don't work for 98% of people.
I eat all the same stuff I did before surgery but way less. I have had pizza a bunch. I've had burgers, fries, tacos, nachos, cake, etc. I am losing weight because I can eat very little of this stuff and am still tracking my calories.
Is this a good thing? Hell no. Most of the time I still have to try so hard to be mindful of what I eat, to focus on Protein and then veggies and limiting my carbs. Nothing about my taste changed after surgery. It wasn't some magic thing that made me only want to eat chicken breast and kale. It appears that it worked that way for a lot of people on this forum but not me.
The only halfway decent advice here is to get a therapist. I plan to do this because I know that if I don't learn to deal with my cravings and food addiction, even if I lose all the weight with this surgery, I'll someday put it back on.
So I'd recommend doing that and in the meantime, try to ignore the plethora of lame advice on this forum. Don't get me wrong - this place is great for some things but you have to wade through a lot of self righteous and misguided advice to find it.
