Princess - I had gastric bypass and am still on liquids however, I can eat yogurt and I notice with yogurt that I can eat the whole cup!! It takes me a little but I can do it - I've heard people call these slider foods. Some foods of down easier. I don't know the ins and outs of band patients, but I would think that it is more normal than not.

I'm still on stage 3 liquids. I'm on them for 2 weeks post op. My first week is over and to be honest like everything else over the past few months - this too shall pass. My first few days were really rough trying to get Proteins and fluids in. I didn't feel like putting anything in my mouth. Now, I'm doing better. Today is day 8 post op. There are no other words to describe how I feel except - FANTASTIC. I haven't experienced getting up and feeling no pain in my joints in probably, years. I have so much energy and am happy. I am able to bend down without hearing my knees crack, able to walk a little without getting winded - I can't believe the amount of change I feel only from a little weight loss.
I know someone said they were struggling with getting Proteins and fluids in. I can say this - I drink from sun up to sun down. I always have something nearby to drink whether it be a Protein shake or Water. Remember to that things like Decaf tea, Jello, broth are all liquids so count them! I have found the Protein shakes I thought were great, I can barely stomach anymore. After switching it up again, I am able to drink more and it tastes better.
Other than my incisions being a little sore, my stomach feels pretty good. I had a lot of shoulder pain in the beginning and that passed after a couple days thank goodness!! My hw: 345. I was 322 the day or surgery. This morning, I weighed in at 311. I consider 11 pounds in one week a win. And I'm still fat. Go figure!! Lol - I desperately wanna see the 200's on my scale.

I was the same way - it gets better darlin, promise. Other than incisions, I really don't feel much right now. The liquids get easier each day out too. I had yogurt my first day home and could only finish half. Last night, I ate the whole cup! Took me 45 mins but I did do it!! I pooped on day 4 and was so proud of myself!! Lol you will get there!! Keep it up!

I'm 2 days post-op. I am SO unbelievably sore. I honestly didn't think I would feel this sore. My stomach I can handle, it's pain in my shoulders that is driving me nuts! I've been told a bunch of times now that it is trapped gas from the surgery and I have to walk around to move it out. I'm taking Dilaudid for pain (which I find has been helping) and hot showers are a blessing. Today was easier than yesterday. I just want to feel a little like myself again!

Moxy - yes I got to go home. Still have some wicked shoulder pain. I can't really get comfy in my bed so I slept in our big recliner last night with the heating pad on my shoulder. Laying here, the only thing I can feel is my shoulders - no stomach. Go figure!!! I totally get the smell thing now. I came home last night and I kept asking my husband what that horrible garlic smell was (I remember seasoning my fish with garlic powder last Wednesday!!) He made a sandwich for dinner and I could smell the toast - which smelled horrible. I watched him eat a cheese stick and I wanted to gag!! We went to Rite-Aid last night to pick up my prescriptions from the dr and they had a huge cart of cakes and pies at the door. All I could taste and see, was fat. I saw a girl walk by outside with a pizza and I turned the other way. food is everywhere!! Today marks the first official day I'm on my own with Protein - gonna try an Isopure for Breakfast. Looking forward to some Soup broth for lunch maybe!! And nothing beats hot showers!!
Kremmel - I did hear that somewhere about Migraines. Like you, I suffer from chronic migraines. Imitrex always takes them away. I have cycles where one week I have 3 or 4 and then I'm okay for 2 weeks. I hope beyond hope that as I get healthier, the migraines will lessen!
Sunshyn - You must be so excited. As the day comes closer, you re-evaluate everything. After the surgery, I was in some pain and my mouth was horribly dry. I remember thinking "why the hell did I do this?" It's okay to have moments of doubt. Celebrate those successes so when the doubt creeps in, it won't take very long for it to go away!
BJ - You're in my thoughts, bud. You've made it through the 2 week diet (told you!!!) and you're ready to rock this surgery. Celebrate your last day before surgery by telling yourself why you won't ever go back to "that" place! I spent most of the day thinking, promising myself this was the last time I would feel guilty about being fat. Clear your head and get in the game!!! All my best wishes to you

I forgot to mention that I did experience the coolest thing today: Before surgery, I would take 50mg Imitrex as needed for Migraine. Well, they are too big now. My surgeon surprised me and had already ordered 25's instead that are way smaller. With the 50's, it normally takes about an hour to work. Within 5 minutes of taking the 25's, my migraine was GONE. I couldn't believe it. Looks like smaller stomach equals better absorption in this case. I call that a win!

I've read through all of the posts and I guess I will be the first to speak on behalf of us RNY-ers!
Hi Hayley! I'm having RNY done on the 22nd, in less than a week. Here is the thought process behind why I chose to have RNY:
I have been heavy my entire life and know that I will continue to be heavy until I do something about it. RNY is a huge step however, I believe it is the right WLS choice for me because I have quite a bit of weight to lose. My starting weight was 345 pounds. Today, I am down to 325 pounds and hope to be 320 pounds when I go in for surgery. My BMI is 52. I know that choosing to have this surgery will mean that I am now committed to a lifetime of taking Vitamins. RNY-ers have malabsorption issues. That being said, I'd say that out of all the WLS choices that we have the strictest guidelines and "phases" for eating.
I would recommend RNY if you have been heavy your whole life, if you have a large amount of weight to lose (over 150 pounds) and if you feel as if this will be what you need to get you on the right path to weight loss.
No one can tell you what surgery to choose - only you can do that however, I have seen some fantastic responses to your questions. We all seem to be very supportive of each other, no matter what the WLS is/was. I would attend an informational seminar and find a surgeon whom you TRUST and CONNECT WITH. 80% of my decision to have RNY, was based on 1 conversation with my surgeon the first time I met him because like you, I was unsure.
Good Luck and I wish you all the best! -Lindsay

That sounds familiar! Please don't give up - first 3 days are the worst. After Day 4, it becomes a way of life almost. Today is my 14th day and I have surgery on Friday. What kept me going was thinking about how healthy I want to be after, my daughter and my husband. You CAN do this. It will not be forever and remember, it's the gold at the end of a very long rainbow!!

LindsJ83 got a reaction from B.J. in Unexpected Surgery Date!
I COMPLETELY get it!! I quit caffeine and soda a little more than 2 months ago for 2 reasons. First, I knew I would eventually have to and second, because I knew that plus 2 week pre-op diet would be effing brutal!! I'm telling you - the first 2 weeks solid was so horrible because I was exhausted all the time. Then, something just kinda flipped its switch and I was fine! I'm not doing a liquid diet, I'm doing a low cal low carb high Protein diet. When I started, I almost wished I was doing the liquid. I was so hungry the first 3 days. Now that I'm going on day 11 tomorrow I really can say - it's not THAT bad...I'm averaging anywhere between 900-1200 calories.
As for your liquid diet though, what Protein powder are you using? I can recommend a few that are pretty great. I've always loved Designer whey. The chocolate is SO good! It's lactose free so it's a bonus for after your surg. You won't have to worry about that sensitivity. Isopure I have not tried yet however, I heard that it tastes like Gatorade. Some people can have yogurt on their pre-op diet. If you can, try mixing in powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury powder. Anything that packs a Protein punch will help with hunger. I posted about it a few pages ago but my saving grace has been Twinings Purely Peppermint Naturally Decaf hot tea. I drink it almost every afternoon and evening. It helps with the hunger. Peppermint is supposed to be a natural appetite suppressant. And if all else fails just keep reminding yourself that you're doing this for a reason. I always tell myself "Okay, you will never be such and such weight again!!" Hang in there. It does get better!!

I was told the pre-diet is to shrink our livers so the doctors can have more room to operate. mine is a 10 day diet with 2 day liquid before. ive been doing it for 4 months however and i lost 60 lbs from it. its brutal but wanting to get under 300lbs before surgery was a big motivator.

The first 3 days of the diet are really hard. But, by day 4 it gets better. I'm halfway through and now I barely feel hungry and I'm just around 800-1100 cals per day. Anybody who says fat people don't have willpower is wrong! Lol you got this!!!

I've always wondered the same thing as well - Personally, I think it comes down to the surgeon, the nutritionist and the body type of the person. I've seen a LOT of people have a liquid diet. I don't have that - I'm actually allowed to eat up until midnight the day before my surgery! I'm just on a liver shrinking diet which is basically high protein/low carb. I've lost 7 pounds this week so something is working! But yes I have wondered that too. Consider yourself lucky if you only have 1 week!!
