  1. Thanks for all your posts. Tullips... if you think you may ever go on a gaining spree... I'd get the band. If I'd have known about it two years ago before baby I'd have done it. It's devastating to gain all this weight I'd lost. With the band it wouldn't have happened. Everyone is inspiring and I appreciate hearing what you have to say!
  2. Wow you really are low BMI. I was around 160-170 before I had my baby. Then gained 80 pounds with pregnancy. It had taken me two years to lose and maintain that weight. My BMI now is 39. If I were at 173 and didn't think I'd ever be much more than that I wouldn't get the lap band. My goal is to be 145-155. Even at 160 I was pretty happy in my size 12. I'm 5'2.
  3. I just want to send you my sympathy. From the day I received my surgery date I also gained 10 pounds. I ate everything I could get my hands around feeling like I'd never eat again. Now I'm two weeks away and finally got on the wagon to lose it all. I know how disappointed your feeling, but rest assured your aren't the only one who has done this.
  4. I think the weight loss will be slow enough that people won't just automatically think you had WLS. Anyhow, I'm not telling people either. When people ask home I'm doing it I will tell them by not eating much. That should shut them up. No special diet just plain old not eating much a/k/a the starvation diet only we shouldn't feel starving anymore.
  5. I'm scheduled for next Friday and I have been reading a lot of posts stating that people want their bands out and they haven't lost any weight. Another I read today said that PBing is not the simple little burp of food it sounds like and that it's horrible and painful. Also, hearing about not being able to eat again. I'm self pay and this is a lot of money for me to shell out for something that may not work. Please give me your down and dirty stories. I'm low BMI and really healthy so not expecting a lot of problems.
  6. EVERYBODY CALLS ME: Emily, Emi, Ema, Ema girl... pee pie MY PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS INCLUDE: I'm in love with two men... my DH, Andy and my sweet 5 month old boy, Lucas MY NON-HUMAN FAMILY CONSISTS OF: I don't do pets unless you count the hubby I LIVE IN: Sunny San Diego OCCUPATION(S): Jr. Escrow Officer... for now. The way the real estate market is going I'm always joking that next week I could be a janitor...lol Scheduled 08/31/2007
  7. I'm also not telling hardly anyone. I am not banded yet so can't help too much. I have started my preop diet (which is almost just like post op diet) and honestly no one pays attention. If you don't say anything no one will even notice. Anytime I'd mention a diet people around me would watch everything I eat. So this time I decided to be quiet about it and no one is even noticing. When ordering w/ friends I'd order just a soup and if anyone gives me questions I'll just say that's all I wanted.
  8. For my preop (starting today) I'm doing Atkins. I could have done the Optisfast which is two shakes and a meal each day but that is just NOT enough for me to eat. I would rather eat all I want of low carb foods. This morning I had scrambled eggs smothered in cheese. Way better than a shake. Plus I am drinking the Atkins shakes as a snack. I know the preop is so hard especially since I am a SUGAR ADDICT!!!!! The thought of no cookies, ice cream, brownies, etc. is going to be so hard on me! What kind of diet are ya'll on?
  9. Thanks so much for sharing. I am scheduled w/ Dr. Ortiz on 08/31 and am pretty nervous. Did you lose all the required weight for the surgery? I am having such a hard time w/ the preop diet as I'm just feeling so HUNGRY....
  10. My doc said either Atkins or the shakes. I really tried to start the preop diet yesterday and I was so HUNGRY! I tried again today and by the end of the day again so hungry! Tomorrow is a new day! Good luck to you.
  11. I have heard that it helps you heal, reduces fat around liver? or something like that. I believe it shrinks your liver a bit which makes the procedure easier.
  12. I am scheduled for 08/31 and my BMI is 39. It doesn't seem there are too many low BMI folks out there. My insurance won't cover any WLS for anyone under BMI of 50 so I am self pay. Going to TJ, Mexico.
  13. Oh I am on the same page as you. My surgery date is 08/31. Every morning I tell myself today is the day I will be good and work on my required 10 lb WL prior to surgery. This morning I really felt gung ho. I get to work and it's like being in a black out. The next thing I know I have eaten 3 cookies and a piece of choc cake w/ a coffee. Thanks very much to my work for the gunk donation. I can't believe it. What is wrong with me? It's like I have ZERO control!!! I'm so afraid I will show up for surgery and they are going to send me back home. Good luck to you!
  14. My preop is two shakes (one Breakfast and one lunch) and a prepackaged meal for dinner. I made it until 12 yesterday w/ just the shake and then ate everything I could get my hands on. I have the feeling like I will never eat again and have been on a binge fest since my surgery date was confirmed. Can anyone please help?
  15. Way to go! My hubby isn't very happy about this. He keeps calling it a cosmetic procedure. Whatever!!!! Anyhow, I am not telling anyone!!! I have already gotten such horrid reactions when I said I was just thinking about it. If people ask how I'm doing it, I will say "not eating much". That is technically the truth. At least I won't feel like a liar.
  16. I am scheduled for the 31st and was supposed to lose 10 pounds. Instead I am quickly gaining it!!! Agh!!! I can't seem to get it together. Any advice?
  17. I think my hubby would be just the same because we aren't eating half of what we used to. They just get concerned about our well being. It's annoying but also sweet that they care enough to notice. I'd just say... oh honey I ate SOOO much for lunch or something like that. Good luck!
  18. Thank you everyone for your replies and stories! I'm glad things went well for you Christine!
  19. Thank you everyone! I really appreciate the response I've gotten on this topic. The way "the tool" is spoken about in some posts just makes me think I am destined to fail. I can't wait to be part of the "Bandster" club!
  20. It's so obvious what she did to lose weight. I feel bad for her in that she didn't want the world to know because she was ashamed and by lying about it, everyone is talking about her anyhow. I can totally understand her reasoning though. No one in my family understands including my husband. They all think I'm just too lazy to do things the old fashioned way. I don't care to have everyone look down on me so I am also not telling anyone and when they ask what I did I will tell them I am on the "I don't eat diet". That's kind of the truth, right?
  21. I keep hearing everyone saying that lap band is only a tool and it's up to us to lose the weight. Honestly, can you lose part of the weight by just getting the band? I'm am thinking once I'm banded I will jump on the "It's just a tool" band wagon and truely understand what you all mean. If it cuts down portion size and helps us to feel full longer isn't that the "magic" we're looking for? As well as not gaining weight back. My problem is sweets. I know that I can easily eat around the band, but won't it help me by keeping me from eating 10 donuts instead of a normal persons one? I am scheduled for the 31st. Based on everything I've been reading it seems that I will not lose a thing and maybe this is just another (VERY EXPENSIVE) diet scheme. Any advice is welcome. Also, I need to lose 10 pounds by my surgery date and can't stop eating everything in sight. I am majorlly suffering from last meal syndrome. Please tell me I'm not alone?? :help:
  22. I got 100% financing thru a lender that my doctor works with. They have a link on the website. My credit isn't great either. It's a low 600. Unfortunately the interest rate is a bit higher because it is a no colateral loan. My payments are $235 month.
  23. Hey I think we were seperated at birth. I don't know what moderation is when it comes to sweets. I can live without bread and pasta and eat healthy, but when it comes to sweets I am so out of control. It's all or nothing. I need to mlose 10 pounds to get banded on 08/31 so count me in!
  24. I used to work in a hospital in billing customer service. The advice I'd always give is to pay first and disput later. This is best if you're worried about your credit. I would certainly report the doctor even if you don't have proof. An investigation would probably be just the fire under his @** to sing a different tune.
