Hi, I'm new to the forum. I just attended my first informational seminar. I've been reading some posts on here and I have a question. Why does your doctor want you to lose weight before surgery?

I have heard that it helps you heal, reduces fat around liver? or something like that. I believe it shrinks your liver a bit which makes the procedure easier.

yes the diet is aimed at shrinking your liver. This is achieved because when u are not eating much your body uses up glycogen which is stored in your liver. It also has water with it so by using it up the liver shrinks and is out of the way of your stomach.
