    April 2013 Post-Op Group

Hi everyone, It has been a while since I checked in. I'm in onederland. As of Tuesday (8/21/13), I weighed in at 199.7.lbs. My surgery date was April 8, 2013. I weighed 265 on the day of surgery. Now for the bad news. I'm having a hard time getting in 60-80 grams of protein, and my hair is coming out like crazy. I'm wearing a full cap wig for now. I will continue to work on increasing my protein. Good Luck to everyone!

    I'm Back!

Hi All, I had surgery on April 8th 2013; however, when I hit the 4 wk mark I was severely dehydrated. I was nauseated 24/7. Water and sugar-free Gatorade were my only friends. On May 22nd around 3:30 PM I felt like I was going to pass out at work so I left early. The next day (Thursday) I woke up to dry heaves so I contacted my surgeons office to get an appt, but they couldn't take me until the following day (Friday). The surgeon's assistant could tell I was in a lot of pain so she told me if it got worse to go to the ER. Somehow I made it through Thursday thinking Friday the surgeon would find the issue, and I would be cured. Well, on Friday the surgeon simply said I had an uncler because: I no longer had my gall bladder. It was removed in 2004. Water and Gatorade was going down with no issue, so it couldn't be a blockage So he gave me some presriptions and sent me on my way. I RAN to get the perscriptions field thinking I would have relief once the meds were in my system. NOT!!! I continued to be in pain the rest of Friday and Saturday. By Sunday (May 26th), I could not keep water or Gatorade down. My nausea had gone from a level 3 or 4 to a level 10. Normal household smells such as room deordorizers, hand lotion, dish detergent, etc. made me ill to smell. I had to wear a surgical mask to keep from vomitting. I had my neighbor take me to the ER. After x-rays, EKG, a CTscan and 4 days of being in the hospital, they finally discovered I had scar tissue (aka adhesions) the line from my stomach and intestines are fused together and NOTHING could get through. I had severe pain on the left side right under my left breast. On Friday (May 31st) I had to have surgery to have the scar tissue removed. This surgery was done laparoscopically as well. I got 3 new incisions, and was sent home the next day. I'm doing 100% BETTER. During my two week ordeal I really thought that was going to be my "new" life, and I was really wonder in the world had I done to myself. Although my weight loss has slowed down a smidge (now that I can actually eat), I'm so happy with my progress. I've lost a total of 60 lbs and 47 lbs since surgery. I'm sharing my story so that if you have any of the same symptoms as I had, please don't just think its normal reach out to your surgeon to get help. Listen to your body, if you think its more than what your surgeon is telling you, and you are in pain GO TO THE ER!!! I have a very high tolerance for pain which explains why I didn't end up in the ER sooner rather than later. I should've went on Thursday or Friday evening instead of waiting until Sunday. Best, BabyGirl127

    I'm Back!

Kristlynngirl - I'm so sorry you are still in so much pain. I'm sure you are aware, but do not let too much time elapse between taking your pain meds. It will get better. Take it easy and get plenty of rest. I will continue to pray for you and a speedy recovery. It gets better...hang in there.

    What ya eating tonight?

    Broiled mahi-mahi & 2 broccoli florets
  7. I agree with SoccerMomma73, embrace your success. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. I would suggest you journal your intake for two weeks and share that with your nut to get insight on where you can make improvements. Don't let the negative self talk win. You are doing great! It would've taken you longer than 7 months to lose 60 lbs before surgery.

    anorexia

I totally understand. when I was sick with my scar tiissue issue, I couldn't eat and when I tried to eat it would more than likely come back up. After vomiting, I could forget attempting to eat again for at least 24 hrs. I was scared I was going to develop an eating disorder. My digestive system intestines became fused together so the pain, nausea, lack of appetite were due to that. I will keep you in my prayers. Please stay encouraged. This too shall past.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

I got out of the shower and wrapped the towel around me, I tucked under my other arm before I realized the towel was securely wrapped around me with no gaps. WOW! I don't remember the last time I was able to wrap a towel around me without a huge gap. I did a short Happy dance, and I got ready for work.

    Feeling Sick

Are you getting at least 64 oz of water? I ask because I was nauseated 24/7. I had a bad taste in my mouth which caused everything to taste nasty including water. My urine had a bad odor sorry If TMI). I called my surgeon's office, & I was told I was dehydrated.

    Eating

I understand. I'm suppose to start puréed diet tomorrow and nothing on the list sounds appetizing so I may remain on full liquids for another week. Not to mention all my Protein shakes and Fruit drinks are starting to taste nasty. UGH! This too shall pass.

    Feel terrible

I'm SO sorry you feel bad. I wish I could give you a hug. My 2nd day felt like hell on earth. I finally broke down & cried in front the nursing assistant, she tried to console me but it really didn't help. Bless her heart she tried. Hang in there it gets better each & everyday. It's okay to cry. Let it out and move on. Don't feel discourage because others seem to be doing better than you. Walk your journey. Celebrate your accomplishments. You maybe down but you are not OUT. This is just beginning of the knew you. Birth is hard and you have been reborn. Take care of yourself. It is SOOOO worth it. Stay encouraged!

Hi All - keep up the good work. We will make it through this before you know it. I'm doing much better. I'm working every day to get my protein & water. I have successfully weaned myself off the pain med, but I to take anti-nausea med tonight:-( I just read I won't be able to try regular food until 2 months out (June 8th). OMG!
  20. I drink 1/4 cup of liquid Protein (Isopure) on the hour, and I sip on Fruit2O Water every 15 mins after or I suck on crushed ice. I loved water before surgery & now it tastes horrible which is why I'm hooked on Fruit2O. Crushed ice is a must as I'm still battling severe nausea. I'm on anti-nausea med, but the smell of food (that my family) eats turns my stomach.

    April Dates

I TOTALLY know what you mean. My surgery was on the 8th also. Like you i feel taking the meds is the worst. Just to here the word "broth" turns my stomach. Yuck! I am also very sensitive to all types of smells. It reminds me of pregnancy:-P

I totally understand. I could only get a SF Popsicle while in the hospital. Now that I'm home I wat by the clock. I'm relying on Isopure Protein drinks. They are fruity & I can tolerate them. I absolutely HATE the liquid pain med but I can't go without it. I hold my nose while I swallow & I quickly put a small piece of ice to keep from getting sick. Stay encouraged.

Yesterday was a bad day. I was very nauseated and I had pains in my chest when I tried to take a deep breath. I hate the smell of every thing broths, shower gel, hand sanitizer, etc. I found my self crying last night bcuz I felt like I was getting worst instead of better. Today, is already better. I no longer haver cath but I still have my drain. I burp & pass gas so that is good. I also have the hiccups off & on. Anyone experiencing hiccups?
