That's not normal. Mine were never black. Is all your doctors to be safe. Don't assume anything at this stage. Better safe than sorry.

You're not alone. I had the same problem. Try using www.myfitnesspal.com to make sure your ratios are in check. The higher your Protein, the better and more weight you will lose. Once I started walking 30 mins a day and really focusing on what I was consuming, I started to lose weight again. Btw...Before surgery I had a top notch personal trainer. He said start with one protein for every carb you eat for two weeks. Then go to 2 Proteins for every 1 carb you eat for a week and then 3 proteins for every 1 carb you eat for a Mac of 3 days. I promise that with or with out surgery you will lose a ton of weight doing that!!! He also said if you have ANY fat on your body then it's because you have too much sugar in your diet. It's a fact. He said no more than 6grams of sugar per meal. Your body doesn't have the ability to get rid of more than that so it stores it. My old doctors philosophy was cut the 3 s's!!! No sugar, salt or starch and you are guaranteed to lose weight. Of course all of these things are easier said than done, but if you ease into it (baby steps) and start to make it a lifestyle, you will lose weight. It's a well known fact that losing weight is 80% diet, 10% genetics, 10% exercise. Make it your New Years resolution to work smarter, not harder.

I waited 3 years. Went through the approval process only to find out that 3 months later and several thousand dollars into it that my insurance pulled the surgery from their plan. I was pist! But I pulled myself together and hired a personal trainer determined to lose the weight on my own. After all, surgery isn't a cute, it's a tool. A tool that doesn't necessary work for everyone. Start now "pretending" that you've had the surgery. Follow the ore and post diet process. It's doable, not easy by any means, but you will lose weight, look and feel better. It will also prepare you for surgery when you do have it and in the end you will be a lot more successful for it. Good luck!

Hi All! I just joined yesterday. I'm from Western NY. Had my surgery 12/21/12 (you know, the end of the world). Feeling good, healing nicely, so far, no issues with foods or liquids. Down 25 lbs, hooray!

Today I completed day 2 of the C25K app. If you don't know what that is, an app that trains non runners in 8 weeks to be able to run a 5k. I had my iPod app on and walked (mostly at 3.4 mph) and ran (a little at 4.4mph) over 12,335 steps :-) first time ever going over 8,000. I have the striiv play and its app on my iPhone and iPod. It has challenges to beat such as walk 50 steps in 1 minute. I absolutely love it. I beat all the challenges it gave me today except I lost one of them :-( it was a tough one though. I did all of that using my iPod. When I went to sync it, I lost my steps, all 12,000+ down the drain. I was so ticked off. It was because my iPod isn't the newer one and wouldn't sync to my pedometer or to MyFitnessPal :-( So I had to start over w the pedometer and ended up getting another or only 484 steps. I was so bummed, disappointing. Good work out though. I recommend the striiv. The challenges are great, fun and healthy:-)

Hey everyone! I am 11 days post-op today and it was the first day that I really started to feel like myself again Most of my pain has been gone for awhile, but I have had a couple lingering tender/sore spots that have been giving me trouble. Today I was actually able to walk around almost pain free, and even took myself on a trip to Barnes and Noble! Im so excited, I just felt I had to share with people that understood what I was going through. Hope everyone is doing well!!

I think this group had been amazing! I have counted on the folks on here with pre op questions and now post op questions. Everyone in the December group has been so encouraging!! With that said I'm signing off of this thread. It's getting really confusing to follow all the conversations! We all have lots to say! Looking forward to chatting it up on some of the other threads in his forum. Hope to see you guys there! Thank you, all, for helping me get through surgery. 3 weeks pst tomorrow and feeling great!

Man some of you are so much braver than me... Applesauce, puddings, cream soups... I'm just sticking to my wheelhouse... meat meat meat... Greek yogurt or an egg for breakfast, chili, meatball, or chicken BBQ for lunch, meatball, chili, chicken, ground sausage or turkey for dinner... The occasional sf Popsicle... 2 Protein Shakes and Vitamins throughout the day and 1 bottle of Water to get all my fluids... Usually manage to do 60g Protein and about 60 oz fluids... I'm not brave enough to try wonton Soup yet noodles scare me... So does rice... But I may just throw caution to the wind and try wonton soup... I'm deathly afraid of vomiting tho... Vomiting and dumping are my biggest fears... But so far not one thing I've tried has bothered me... And as of this morning 81 lbs down since I started preop liquids nov 16th

I wonder if it might be too sweet, personally I would try a little at a time until I thought it was to my liking. Does sound like it is worth a try. Although, I like mine just as they are..... I add real frozen fruit to my vanilla shakes (presurgery) to make it more of a dreamsicle type of flavor and no added ice. Delish-- adds carbs, so watch your intake---complex carbs but does affect sugars. Good if you are calorie deficient and need to up your intake. Now I use chocolate Protein powder and a little Decaf coffee crystals, and drink slightly frozen or well chilled....I have to really watch my carbs.
I just weighed 197lbs. ONEDERLAND, finally!

    Hi ladies,
Have been reading posts and thought I would share my progress and hope it will help some of you. I started my pre op on Dec 3 and surgery on Dec 17. On Jan 4, I finally reached the 20 lb loss mark. I have had several plateaus and just kept on with what I was doing. I am typically a slow loser and would be thrilled to have lost what some of you lost just in the preop stage. We are required to have a class with psych after surgery and one of her main topics was about plateaus and spending too much mental effort on not losing instead of celebrating what you have done so far. She said patients who get too fixated on the numbers Instead of focusing on good eating and celebrating their success are much more likely to gain it back for a variety of reasons. She said we need to work on focusing on other things besides weight numbers. She said plateaus will occur because your body has to adjust and just to expect it. If it lasts longer than 3 weeks then call the nut who will look at what we are eating and make suggestions. Hope this helps and gives some of you some peace of mind about your progress.

Tat2girl: I had issues with my loss too. I actually gained due to dehydration...but I'm losing now. I average a pound every 2 days. That is my body. I won't have huge losses like others on here and I don't think my body would handle that. I got realistic with myself and my thoughts of all this, what I came up with is that: I'm following the guides, getting all Protein n Water in, my body is different and cuz of that my huge weight loss is only going to b around 15-20 a month. I'm ok w that cuz I am seeing and feeling the results. Every body is different and it is ok to not have huge weight losses. Just get your protein in cuz that is huge w weight loss, get that water in, try working out and you'll continue to get results. You just might have to have a little talk with yourself as I did. Working those muscles helps to burn more, so you'll have more loss providing you're getting the protein in. I get 60+ protein. 72g yesterday.
