addicted to smoking
Blaq_Butterfly replied to iverina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok this is coming from my nursing brain. Smoking can delay healing and reduces blood flow. So when having surgery it is a good idea to stop because it can make you susceptible to delayed healing or even bleeding out during surgery. Now from my patient brain yes it is hard as hell to stop but the benefits outweigh the risks. I have smoked for 15 yrs off and on stopped with every pregnancy and a number of other times. Last time I took chantix but couldn't afford it after a while. I am back on it now and I love it no side effects and no problems but I also take an antidepressant so my doctor thinks that may be keeping me from having crazy side effects. Last time I took it I had really vivid dreams but that was it. If you can quit do it regardless if its required or not. -

It was a urine test for mine and u have to be smoke free for at least 5 days maybe more depending on how long and how much you smoke. Try the electronic cigarettes without nicotine and just tobacco in them -

I had the same problem I tested positive on my first nicotine test which delayed me getting a surgery date. I suggest Chantix, it is expensive but it is worth it. You can smoke the first week youtake it then after that you won't want to. I even did the patches which was good for 3 weeks but I was snacking like crazy. With Chantix you don't crave the cigarettes and actually the smell of them makes me naseous. I have told my bf who smokes he can't smoke in the house anymore because it smells horrible to me now. -
Cardiology Clearance

I just had an EKG done and a pulmonary function test, that was it. It was easy did a whole 3 hours of other testing though, I think the worse was the upper GI series. Our surgery dates are 2 days from each other, we should try to keep tabs on each other :0) -
Got my call yesterday. Surgery is scheduled for 3/19/13. Six days after my 34th birthday, can't think of a better way to kick off a new year of life!!!

My insurance took less than 48 hours to approve my surgeon is in high demand so my surgery won't me until February probably. I go for pre op testing on Tuesday

Congrats! My approval tool 2 days and I go for pre op testing next week hopefully I will have a date after that. Keep us posted when you get yours! -
I have been debating for five years whether it not to have surgery. This year I decided to go for it. I was approved two weeks ago after 3 mos of requirements and now my pre op testing is scheduled for next week. Surgeons office says surgery will be in February with a definite date after my testing is done. I am so very excited! My only problem is stopping smoking I've been trying I am currently waiting on my patches to arrive this week.
