  1. I'm so sorry! I have a similar story. I was unfilled for 3 years due to not being able to keep anything down. Most of that time I had crappy insurance and they would not revise me. I got up to 315 and then had bulging discs in my back so I had to lose weight or it was going to kill me. I managed to lose quite a bit on my own then got approved for the sleeve. I am down to 250! I am so happy and my quality of life is so much better. I have not thrown up at all post sleeve. If I never lose another pound the surgery would be worth getting that darn thing out. Of course though I am losing slow, I plan on losing a lot more and now I have an EFFECTIVE tool that helps me feel full on very little without vomiting everything I put in my mouth. Good luck and know that you are definitely not alone!
  2. I used Dr. Nick Nicholson in Plano. He has done a lot of revisions. I don't know how many total though from band to sleeve. He did not do my band. I wanted a new surgeon for my revision. I researched him and went to his free seminar. Then due to crappy insurance I worked for 3 years to get approved. I got new insurance this year and within 2 months jumping through insurance hoops, I was revised. Also his staff was great too. Who ever you choose, my only advice is to find a doctor you trust. There were some red flags with my lap band doc but they didn't rear their ugly heads until after surgery. If I had listened to my instincts, I would not have gone with that lap band doc. I was 100% satisfied with Dr. Nick.
  3. I can control mine with antacids. For me it did get a little worse at first for about 3 or 4 weeks but has calmed down to the point where when I take the antacids I don't have any symptoms. Good luck.
  4. I wasn't self pay and I am also Melissa! But I saw a YouTube video that was helpful pre surgery. Check it out: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TWj1_cgFCi8 He was from out of town and give a lot of details good and bad! Good luck
  5. I'm not going to lie. I'm am obsessed with every calorie I put in my mouth that can be stressful. I think you should get a second opinion though. If they say the same thing then maybe they are right. If the new one signs off then make a mental note, have the surgery then pay attention to everything you eat and why. I am a stress eater too. But post surgery, I will be darned if I eat any extra calories because I had major surgery and I don't want to fail. Hopefully I won't fall back into the pattern later. Good luck!

    Disgusted.

You seem o be doing fine. A lot of people don't lose weight on their preop bc thy are afraid of going to a lower BMI and being denied. Just stick to it and you will be more healthy for surgery even if the weight doesn't come off. Good luck! Oh and it's ok to vent, we are here for support. Just don't get stuck there for your own benefit.
  7. If your surgeon won't do the sleeve then your choices are to find another surgeon or get the gastric bypass. What are the advantages that you like about the sleeve? Are there some advantages to the bypass that may help you better in the long run? I chose the sleeve because I didn't feel that I wanted to reroute everything. I felt like I could use it as a tool to help me. With the bypass there are apparently built in things to help you avoid sweets and fats. I think they call it dumping. You can have it with the sleeve but it is not as common. Ultimately you and your surgeon will have to weigh out the advantages to each surgery and determine what will be the bet path for you to take. Good luck on our journey

    Anyone have PCOS?

I have PCOS and I have had it since I was a teenager. I am a sssllllloooooowww loser. I have lost 13 pounds in six weeks after surgery. I lost 10 in my preop two weeks so total down as a result of surgery is 23 pounds in 8 weeks. I see people on here who have lost 30 pounds in one month. Well that is not me. But I am losing steadily and the sizes are going down. I just have to accept that it will come off but it will take time. There is no guarantee which one you will be post op but I can tell you I don't regret doing this because at least I am losing instead of gaining. As a side note, I follow all of the doctors orders to a T with my diet and was just able to add back my exercise. I ride my mountain bike on a trail 2 to 3 times a week and I'm about to add back in the weight lifting I might see faster weight loss but we shall see.

    Slow weight loss

I feel your pain. I had my 6 month check up today and was nervous as hell. I have lost 10 pounds according to their scale and 12 according to mine in 6 weeks. This is down a total of 60 pounds. My surgeon did not appear to be surprised. He even said "I don't judge weightloss at this stage and you look good. Talk to me in three months if you aren't losing weight." In a way it made me feel better but it is still really frustrating. If you have an iPhone you can use the app called "lose it" I think it is really great. You can track food and exercise. You can see the percentage of Protein to fat to carbs on a pie chart. You can also scan bar codes on foods and a lot of them will pop up. If it doesn't you can add the food and nutrition. I like this because I don't trust other interpretations of food when I have the label in front of me. Prior to surgery I lost 45 pounds tracking my food and exercise with the app. Good luck on your journey
  10. Sorry you cant have it in one. they do say it is for your own good. but now you know and you can settle in to your routine and the remaining hoops if you have any. Good luck on your journey. It will be worth it in the end!
  11. I had mine deflated for 3 years due to problems. The preop was only hard the first few days then got so much easier. I got a revision from band to sleeve in one. My surgeon usually does it in two but I had n insurance situation so he accommodated me. What did they say when you demanded the unfill?
  12. My doc said no lifting over 10 pounds for six weeks but each surgeon is different. Also you won't much feel like lifting 20 pounds for a while...
  13. I did mine in one surgery. I love my sleeve, I hated the band. My life is so much better but the recovery was hell. Worse for me an the band. I went back to work after two weeks. I needed three full weeks to recover. But now I feel normal again! Good luck on your decision.

    Please Help Me Decide ...

I have to say that I love my sleeve so much better than the band. I feel full when I eat so I am satisfied. I am one month out and have not thrown anything up. The only things I cannot eat are those my surgeons plan says not to and of course no more large portions. Removing my band and getting sleeved was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am losing weight slow compared to others due to metabolism issues I knew I had prior to my sleeve. But I am losing steadily and at a rate greater than I did with the band so this was the right move for me. Good luck on your journeys!
  15. My quality of life is already so much better and I am 4 weeks out from my revision today. I NEVER felt full with the band. I feel full now on 3 to 4 oz of soft solids. I have two more weeks until full solids but I hear when you get to full solids you can eat less. I have not thrown up once. I was constantly throwing up with the band. Aside from my portions and my surgeons restrictions, I feel normal for the first time in 6 years. Life with the band was hell. I am so happy that I have done this. I want to loose weight and I will but if I didn't even lose another pound, my life is soo much better without that THING. All that being said, he will have to make the decision for himself. You can help him with research and facts but if he chooses the band, you will have to still support him. Good or bad. I would not have survived the band without the support of my husband. Now he supports me with my sleeve and even told me that I seem so much happier now that I am feeling better and the band is forever gone!
  16. Yeah I see your point, I had my husband there to help me. But when he went home, I needed help getting out of bed so the nurse or aid would have to help me. It would seem if she wanted you o walk, she should help you.

    It finally popped :D

Mine popped Wed at about 3 weeks PO. I was in the motion of sitting down and I felt a pinch then all of the pressure release and actually heard a loud pop. It was awesome because I was still having to put he heating pad on it a night. After that I did not have any more pain. I was sore there for a couple of days but now when I sit, walk, bend over or anything else I don't have pain
  18. I can do that too! I had thin lunch meat though one day and could eat less than an ounce. And stayed full a little longer tan something like yogurt or Protein shake. It is great that I feel like my yogurt cup is a lot lol

    July 17 band to sleeve

This was me about 3 1/2 weeks ago. I had my band to sleeve on 06/25. I had a rough go of it. I had been through it before so I thought I would be ok. I went back to work at 2 weeks. I should have waited 3 weeks. BUT I feel pretty good now. I started soft solids on Tuesday and I can tell you eating with the sleeve is so much different ...in a good way. I have not thrown up yet. I do measure all of my food and track it to make sure I get all of my Protein. I was one who was asking " what did I do to myself" but trust me it does get better

    Meals for one

I will be 3 weeks post op on Tuesday. I have been on liquids since surgery and can advance to soft solids on Tuesday. That means for Proteins i can have eggs, soft fish and ground meats. My husband is on his own diet and only drinks shakes for dinner. have been trying to wrap my brain around cooking for one. Then it came to me. I remembered seeing an egg pan somewhere and I thought it would be perfect for any portions of eggs or ground meats that I would be making for myself. Here is the link if anyone else is interested. Any one else used the egg pan? And did it help you not over portion your food? http://www.amazon.com/T-fal-A8570084-Specialty-Nonstick-Dishwasher/dp/B000GWG14Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373753785&sr=8-1&keywords=egg+pan I also got a small turner as well.

It really is perfect for one egg! And small amounts of anything you want to cook with easy cleanup
  22. Awe I'm sorry you had a rough time of it. You stayed two night because you were from out if town right? Who was your nurse that day? I was wondering how many patients each nurse had. I had Callie and I guess bc I was low maintenance I did not see her much. The previous day I had Henry who was in a lot. He was so nice!

    Gastroparesis

Sorry to hear that. I had a similar situation. At my EGD I had heart arrhythmias and I had to get cleared before. I got cleared the Wed before my surgery on Tues. I had to stay on the key just in case I was cleared. Thankfully I was. Hang in there and hopefully you will be cleared !

    Hey June 25 Sleevers

Hang in there. Work with your doctor on anything you might be able to do excercise wise. Foot pedaling or arm movements. Someone said there is a video out there with simple movements to do in a chair. I was in the same boat as you. I could barely walk due to my disc pain. I would do whatever I could with movements to lose weight bc I knew that my weight was making the problem worse. It is a tough situation to be in but between your doc and your nut, you should be able to come up with the right combination if movement calories and nutrition. Stay positive
