  1. :) I know @ Honeydue 29. Im just glad it will be done and over with soon. Its been a very quick process for me. My family doctor that did my referral said you know its about a 2 year wait. This was in May and I was shocked when I got a call in June to attend Orientation class and then it all started. I seen the surgeon Aug and seen the SW Nut and RN end of September and bang there you go now I see the surgeon again on the Wednesday and pick up my liquid diet and away I go. I'm also in Canada so the process is a little different. My starting weight is 275 and I'm at 271 current. My goal is to be 150to 140 no more and no less. Lets see if I can do it. My family is supportive my workplace not so much. They are all like you do nt need surgery your fine. I m thinking you are not me so bug off. Either support me or bug off. This is my life and I have to live it. I want to be happier ' date=' healthier and live longer so that is y goal.[/quote']

That was pretty quick process. I see we have the same surgery date too. Right now I'm at about 240 and my goal weight is 115-120, I'm only 5'3 so I hope I can reach that goal. We are in this together

  2. honeydue - what you're going through most of us have gone through. Second doubts' date=' nerves, worry all play a role and you know what........it's totally normal! You chose this journey a while ago for many reasons. Keep those reasons in your mind and heart.

Gastric bypass has been around for years and the surgeons techniques and expertise have increased dramatically. Most of the horror stories are from years ago. I'm not saying it doesn't happen now a days, it does but, far fewer than years ago when RNY was first being done.

During the seminars I've attended.....2006 when I had my lapband..the docs then said a 1-2% risk of serious injury or death.....now in 2012 this seminar they said less than 1%. For me because mine was considered a revision...there was a 1% risk. So those are great odds if you compare it to IF you don't do this. What are the chances your health issues or family history of health issues will be more than a 1% risk? Highly likely right?

If you trust your surgeon...if you like the care you've received and know you will receive after surgery...then sounds like you have a great group to work with. That's more than 1/2 the battle of the surgery. The other half....well you have YOU....your hubby and girls.....and We're here if you need us :)[/quote']

Wow, if I could give you a hug right now I would. Thank you so much for saying what you did. You have really eased my fears.

  3. I umderstand all your fears. And you are going to go through a bunch of different feelings. But you kmow deep down that this is the best gift you can give your children and husband. You are not being selfish. Being selfish would be to continue down the road you are on and maybe have the same problems as your mom. So just take it one day at a time and let the different emotions come and go. Stay busy. Do something fun with your children. And just believe in yourself.

Thanks Vicki, your right, this is the best thing I can do to for my family. Im defiantly going to be taking all the advice I receive.

  4. What is making you second guess yourself? We all were scared and had tons of different emotions. But I can honestly say having surgery was the best thing I ever did !!! I feel fantastic my chloestrol was 220 and is no 157 and my BP was boarder line high and is now 115/78 ... all within 6 months. So the health benefits are great. If I had to do it all over again I would in a second !!! My advise is to follow your surgeons orders and you will not have a problem. Do everything they tell you to do with food' date=' Water, vitimans, Protein etc.

And that is awesome that you appealed and won... :)[/quote']

I'm second guessing myself because I'm terrified of dying during the surgery. I feel like me having the surgery is being selfish and if something happens I'm leaving behind 4 girls and my husband. My mom died in July from heart disease/ heart attack so I imagine my girls missing me if something goes wrong.

It feels great to express my concern to those who have had the surgery because hearing stories like yours help me feel better.

  5. APPROVED!! I was denied at first because I had 6 months with a nutritionist and not a physician but my doctor urged me to do an appeal with 8 months worth of paperwork with him and it was approved this morning.

Now I'm scared and second guessing myself. Am I doing the right thing?

  6. Yesterday my paperwork was submitted to my insurance and I got word that they want me to complete 6 month of supervised weight loss. We submitted 7 months of me seeing a nutritionist/ dietician along with monthly weigh in and food logs. So now I have to do 6 more months because a doctor didn't do my weigh in. I feel like giving up. Sorry for the rant.

  7. I'll start with a little info about me. I'm 29 and a mother to 4 girls. My husband is in the military so we have been traveling a lot so it's hard to make friends who understands me when it comes to having surgery. I decided to have surgery to get healthy for me and my family. Last month my mother passed away from a heart attack/ heart disease which no one knew about. It was so sudden and became a wake up call for me..... So here I am going through the process to have surgery after years and years of trying to lose weight. I hope this will be a place for great support though out my journey.
