FatFreeinNC replied to ruthiej74's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Wow congratulations!!! You are definitely an inspiration to me! I'm just starting my liquid pre-op diet today with surgery in two weeks. It will be nice to think of your success when/if I get discouraged with this sugar withdrawal. Way to Go!!!! -

Bonnie, is it 1000 mg or 1000 mcg of Biotin? -
My instructions say anything 100 degrees up is a sign to call the surgeon's office immediately!! Let us know please....

Yay! Congratulations!! I just got my approval a week ago today and it's still setting in. I go from happy to frightened to depressed all in a few minutes. I hope it gets better closer to the day, I think it will. I'm dreading the two week liquid diet I have to start this Tuesday. Only protein drinks and liquids I could drink through a straw as well as sf popsicles. I'm worried about the bad withdrawal headaches, etc. But I am determined this is going to work and I am going to be a happier, healthier person post-op!!! Good luck to you!

Surgeon's office just called! I have officially been approved for surgery November 13th! I am so excited I'm jumping out of my skin! Have to start my two week pre-op diet this coming Tuesday so need to go shopping for groceries really soon...wow, it's really happening! How do/did you all handle all this bundle of emotions? Excited, scared, apprehensive, gotta now tell my immediate family (mom, sisters), what a whirlwind.....

Hello everyone! I'm tentatively set for November 13th..Everything has been sent to the insurance company this week (Cigna) and they tell me usually two weeks for a reply. I have every bone in my body crossed hoping I get approved, pretty sure I will but as we all know, they hold the cards! Wish me luck.....

I just got the call from my surgeon's office that ALL NECESSARY PAPERWORK IS COMPLETE! The surgeon is going to do a final review of my file today and submit to my insurance no later than Monday! Wow! This may actually become a reality, I'm sooooo excited! I have Cigna Insurance and the girl told me it can take up to two weeks for approval/decision but she has seen it come within a week. Please say a prayer and keep your fingers crossed for me to get that big YES! I may be scheduled as soon as November 6th (after approval and two week liquid diet)......Woo Hoo!!!

6 Month Pre-Approval Diet
FatFreeinNC replied to Grace2115's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in Harrisburg! Which surgeon/hospital are you going to? I'm Dr. Melkonian at Carolina Surgical and going to Presbyterian main downtown. -
You go go go!!! CONGRATULATIONS!

I am 47 and just went through the same thing. I was considering the middle one - the sleeve when I had my first appointment with my surgeon. He of course told me he would do which ever procedure I felt best for me and my future but that he has time and time again seen patients get the lap band or sleeve and a few years later come back for RNY. They either don't lose as much weight as RNY enables you to so they were unhappy, or they didn't like the adjusting of the band all the time. He suggested I do more research in to the RNY so I didn't spend twice the money and time doing one then deciding later to go back for RNY.

6 Month Pre-Approval Diet
FatFreeinNC replied to Grace2115's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I have learned from my Nutritionist is that she, when writing her recommendation letter to the insurance company, must see that I was able to eat properly. Protein, vegetables, fruits, low carbs and fat and my water, etc. She had told me that it wasn't about losing weight and not quailifying but rather showing I can track and do as I am told for post-op. I had the same exact fear as I am right on the border line of the lowest BMI allowed. She said the doctor sends in my heaviest weight from seeing him over the time period prescribed so I would be ok. I would as the people at your surgeon's office the same questions. Hope that helps.... -
I am dsaltz01....still pre-op with tentative date of November 13th but would love to be everyone's support and friend.

Home From Hospital!

Congratulations and I wish you a speedy recovery! I keep hearing sip, sip, sip constantly. Worry first about water intake, secondly protein at this point... -
Oh Dear God, My Hair!
FatFreeinNC replied to Jen in SoCal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I am pre-op thus far, but all the research I have done also suggests Nioxin shampoo and conditioner. I've also seen posts on here that recommend the new Garnier Fall Fight shampoo as well. Good luck!!!
