  1. That is normal, we all were. I was very apprehensive but everything turned out fine. The first couple of weeks are the hardest (but not too bad, considering). I am 7 months post-op and down 113lbs. No real complications and not that much pain or discomfort after surgery (except for gas pain). Good luck tomorrow and keep us posted on your progress.

    6 month check up

Great job!! I hit 6 months post op on 2-8-2013. Down 103lbs. Feels great.
  3. Close, my surgery was on Aug 8, 2012. I'm down 103lbs so far, 43lbs to go!
  4. Hi, I also have hypothyroidism. I am 6 months post surgery and have lost 103lbs. I was taking 175mg of synthroid and it was recently lowered to 150mg. It is definately possible to lose weight with RNY if you have hypothyroidism. Hope this helps.. Good luck to you.
  5. Hey Big Lou, congrats on your upcoming surgery! I would say that you will need 6 weeks. I am 25 days post-op and still get tired very easily. Doing yard work the other day, it felt like I couldn't catch my breath. My job is on the low to medium end of the physical scale (Maint Mech with the USPS) and I needed all 4 weeks. I'm scheduled to return to work on 9/6. Good Luck!

    Tmi But Need Help

My Doctor recommended Mirolax in hot water and to add a little fresh lemon. It worked.
  7. I use unjury chocolate protein powder. I put 24oz of skim milk in a blender, add 1 banana and 1tsp of peanut butter, and 3 scoops of protein powder. Blend until most of the banana chuncks are gone. This is for 1 day. Between the protein powder, skim milk and peanut butter you get about 80 grams of protein. One tip, I usually make it the night before. After blending it's kind of airy. I put it in a container in the fridge and the next morning it has setteled down and tastes like thick chocolate milk. You can replace the skim milk with water if you can't take the skim.

    My Surgury Is Tomorrow!

Yes, water (although plain water gets old pretty quick). Crystal light (lemonade flavor is my favorite). Sugar free ice pops and jello are great. Decaf tea (no sugar or milk but you can use sweet n low). I ordered chicken soup flavored protein powder from unjury.com, tastes pretty good and you get 21 grams of protein per scoop. Started to get the head hunger today (day 6) but not too bad.

    My Surgury Is Tomorrow!

Good luck tomorrow! You will be fine. I am 6 days post op and feeling pretty good. No pain from the surgery itself but still have some gas pain. My doctor told me for the first week to just work on getting my fluids in, not to take any vitamins and not to worry about protein. I have my 1 week post op appt tomorrow. He said week 2 I'll still be on liquids but I can have protein shakes, yogurt etc.. The first week just make sure you get enough fluids, very important. You won't be thirsty (or hungry) but you have to keep sipping, you don't want to end up back at the hospital for dehydration. All the best to you and let us know how you are doing.
  10. Tomorrow is the big day. Very nervous. Wish me luck.

    Surgery Tomorrow

Thanks Yolyann! Did you have your surgery yet?
  15. I'm on day 3 of my liquid diet. I'm hungry and have a bit of a headache, but it's not too bad. Luckily I only have to do this for 1 week. Surgery on Aug 8.
  16. @DLCoggin, Thanks for the kind words. I've read alot of your posts and you are always very supportive and encouraging to everyone and you put out alot of great info, which I know everyone appreciates. Keep up the great job!
  17. I got married when I was 41 and we had a daughter 4 years later when I was 45 and my wife was 40.(I'm almost 49 now). 14 months ago my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. She went thru surgery and chemo, in fact she had her chemo port removed 2 weeks ago. Right now she's doing pretty good but there always feels like there's a cloud hanging over our heads. It got me thinking, with my wife's health up in the air and me tipping the scales at 325lbs, that neither one of us might not be here in 10yrs. The thought of leaving our daughter here alone pushed me over the hump. My surgery is scheduled for Aug 8.

    Sleep Apnea

I have severe sleep apnea. I use a mask that covers my entire nose. I got use to it pretty quickly and can't sleep without it now. I pray that after I lose the weight that I'll be able to stop using the cpap.

    Alcohol

Yeah, I think avoiding it is probably the way to go. I thought about this topic myself. I really enjoy having a couple of ice cold beers while cooking on the grill or after mowing the grass, but it's not more important to me than having this surgery, losing the weight and getting healthy!
  21. Welcome and congrats! My surgery is Aug 8. Good luck and all the best to you!
  22. Hi and welcome! This is a great site with great people and alot of helpful info. We share the same surgery date! I'm a little nervous but ready to do this. Good luck and keep us posted.
  23. So far only my wife and parents know. I only told my parents because they are going to stay with us to help out with our 4yo while I recover. I'll probably tell my brother and sisters a couple of weeks after surgery. But that's about all.
