You need to just call a weight loss surgeon in your area and set up an appointment. They will go over all of the different surgery options, pros and cons of each etc. I will go out on a limb and say that if you don't have insurance you might want to consider something other than the band due to the fact that the ongoing follow up visits would get very expensive.

Everyone's policy is different. Have you called your insurance carrier directly? They can give you an exact amount based on your specific policy. Good luck!

Hmm I thought from your screen name maybe you were looking at the sleeve? Anyway where are you located? There are many places in the US that offer this surgery on a self pay basis for a very reasonable price as well if Mexico doesn't appeal to you. Normally when you are paying your own way (whether in US or Mex) there are not too many requirements. I think they probably want you to be at least "obese" which is a BMI of at least 30. That plus the cost of admission is about it! Some medical conditions (I know you said you don't have any) can cause a surgeon to recommend one surgery over another one for you -- but for the most part the choice of which surgery to have is left up to the patient (customer!). That is true about cup being the difference between band and fullest point. There is also the possibility that you were wearing the wrong cup before. That's pretty common from what I understand from what I learned on one of those Oprah's Bra shows back in the day

They are hinting to you that you are close and that you can get there by adding a few pounds, but they can't come out and tell you that you should gain weight in order to qualify.

I have seen docs that will operate up to age 75. As far as your BMI, are you in a position to self-pay? If so then your BMI is close enough I would imagine. A third (possible) option is clinical trials -- I know there is some research going on regarding WLS and diabetes at the Cleveland Clinic. Agree that if it was me I would definitely not let age hold me back

I think the area is so large that it may need to be broken down a bit into more manageable drives, maybe by counties. Maybe Dallas/Collin, Tarrant/Denton or ??. Any ideas? ETA: Not that you would have to attend the group in "your" county, just that the meeting place would be convenient for those living or working in that area. Hopefully that makes sense.
