September 8 Sleeves Thread
Is your diet very strict? I feel like mine is pretty easy. Oh -- I forgot to add that I am having my EGD tomorrow afternoon. Last thing before surgery.
-
Finally just got the sleeve, yay! My experience so far....
I just wanted to say that you are obviously in your twenties and those nurses are ridiculous for thinking otherwise!

protein bars?
I get them at GNC. I guess I am in the minority, I think they offer very good nutrition and all, but the taste to me is just okay.

September 8 Sleeves Thread
I know there are several of us on the same day, so I thought I would start a thread for us to keep in touch as we go through the process. I'm having surgery in Dallas. On day 2 of preop diet. So far, so good. No issues to report. Check in here if you are scheduled for 9/8! :)

Maybe get your husband to help advocate for you with the nurses to get what you need/want? It almost sounds like they aren't understanding you or something. Sorry you are having trouble with your care. It really makes things hard. But congrats on the sleeve!

sleep apnea
For those that are wondering what it's like for the sleep study; You go to a special sleep study place in the evening, where they have hotel-like bedrooms with tv, bathroom etc. At your normal bedtime the technician will come in and connect about 20 or more electrodes to your head, face and body. Then you will get into bed and go to sleep. The technician will monitor you from another room while you sleep. At some point they might come in and ask you to try wearing a cpap if it seems obvious that you are having apnea. The tech will wake you around 6am, come in and pull off all the electrodes and then you are free to go. The data from the study will be looked at by the doctor and later you will go to your doc to get the results. It's not great but not that bad. Bear in mind that you will have to wash your hair the following morning because of the goo they use to put the electrodes on your head.

flirting
Hmmm very curious now, wondering what was revealed. Some quick guesses, just off the top: devil worshipper? nascar fan? republican?

Sweeping generalizations make me NUTS!
I assumed that "I am praying for you" or "sending prayers up" was just a figure of speech? Like not literally praying for you.

Older sleeve patient advise.
Look around on here, there is a section entitled "gastric sleeve veterans" or something like that, which is for people a year or more out from surgery. There are many people 3+ years out and more who post there, it seems pretty active. You might get a better response if you try posting your question there. Good luck edit: here is a link http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/694-gastric-sleeve-veterans-forum/

insurance not paying
If his employer has purchased a policy that does not cover bariatric surgery at all, then doing an appeal won't do any good and will just waste time. At the very least I would call your insurance company yourself and ask the question before you waste any more time and potentially money (co-pays) on trying to get insurance coverage, and if so then you can focus on getting scheduled as a self-pay. Good luck to you.

Men and Relationships
Hugs to you, breaking up is never easy. Especially when you still have feelings for the person.
-
I'm 6 months post op with no follow up visits and no surgeon.
I would keep calling. I think summer is the busy season for bariatric surgery so they might be extra busy right now. Don't give up you are worth it!
-
Protein bars
I also think they are heavier on the carbs and can slow your weight loss if used too much.
-
Life Insurance
There are policies you can get online that do not require a health exam like traditional policies. They cost more, but could be worth it to make sure you are covered during surgery. Something like that might cost you like 150/month or so but you literally just have to sign up for it.

I need sleever buddies.....
Hey, I'm 9/8 too.

Please help I can still eat a horse
I think you for sure need to keep seeing a bariatric doc for follow up care and support. Find a new one if you feel like you need to. Did your doc not seem interested in getting to the bottom of why you are having so much trouble keeping foods down? That seems like something that would be important to discover. Also, instead of trying to feel whether your are full or not, simply measure/weigh your food and only eat the proper amount. Stop eating when you have had your measured portion. I think this would help a lot, and also would help you learn what the right portion sizes look and feel like in your stomach. Just a suggestion, I am still wondering if something is wrong that is causing you to throw up.

Pre-op appt and cigna approval
Cigna takes like a week once they get the paperwork into the system.

Quick question?
I have heard from people with very high bmi that were required to lose a certain amount of weight before surgery was considered safe for them. That would be on the very high end however.

I don't know guy's...I need Help.
I have to agree with those that say it's time to press your insurance on this issue and get another doc. Hello you are in NJ, not out in the middle of nowhere. I know there are other options for you. Even putting the malpractice suit aside, which as bittersweet mentioned can happen to any doctor, there are all the other bad reviews plus the obviously fake reviews, the difficulty you are already having in getting in to see him, etc etc. Good luck to you. Oh and fyi, switching doctors is not that hard, I did it myself (due to a move) and it was fine and didn't delay things too much.

just got my date
I am scheduled for Sept 8 as well. I am ready to go too. I've been waiting for nearly a year!

I'm eating when I'm not supposed to!
Have you read any of the leak/complication stories on here? I don't want you to be upset, but I think you should be afraid of the possibility of a leak. It is real and it can be very, very bad. ETA: I would also consider visiting a therapist, or at the very least try some of the self-help books regarding eating issues. There are some very good ones that many on here have recommended.
