LindafromFlorida got a reaction from jessiquoi in Warning to my fellow Diabetic Sleevers
Rose, my husband has been diabetic over 30 years and was sleeved 12/2/13. I simply cannot believe you were taken off insulin. I think you have a nut for an Endocrinologist and I sure would find another one fast. My husband's insulin dosage has been lowered by his Internist, following the sleeve. You must be proactive when it comes to your diabetes, and I have read many posts here where diabetics discuss they are still on insulin following their surgery. I had been on Metformin a year, and following surgery I was taken off the Metformin. But insulin is a different matter. I cannot imagine this doctor thinking you would not need insulin, and sounds like you had a doctor who did not know what she was doing. We asked many questions prior to surgery, and we had our answers. One of the nurses who ran our program said 5 years after the sleeve she is still on insulin and will never come off. So we have the knowledge that my husband may be on insulin the rest of his life, but the good part is that he no longer has to eat carbs at bedtime to keep him conscious through the night. You are very lucky to be alive, in my humble opinion. Let this be a lesson in life for you that doctors are not perfect and you are in charge. I cannot believe all this happened to you and I hope everything gets under control. God Bless you!

Hello I am having some issues with wanting to revert back to my old ways. It is so stupid but I find myself going against the rules. I was able to eat normal food today . Which excited me! But after I ate I took a large gulp of diet coke! I don't know why I did that ....but I will tell u it was the worst feeling I have ever had! The pain was horrible and it lasted about an hour' the craving was totally not worth the pain . Just wondering if I was the only one who did something like that and how you handled it. I want desperately to loose the weight and I am done 37 pounds! But I don't want to gain or stay the same. Anybody have suggestions

Crazyweight, we are kind here. If not for Bariatric Pal where would you go for support? Thousands and thousands and thousands of posts prove the kindness here. I have posted almost 2,000 posts. You have posted 12. I will continue as an old lady to help whomever I can, to encourage, to whine, to be happy, to be sad, to cheer, to say omg please please do not eat that pizza one week after surgery. For gosh sake, we are human beings and we ask for opinions and we get them. We give them and either someone likes it or is offended. Maybe if someone wants to eat pretzels, pizza, pureed wontons, and french fries a week after surgery, you should not say omg I just ate this stuff. Keep it to yourself or call your surgeon. Many, many people here post what they ate and gentle souls say move on and are supportive. Best to everyone.

Like Linda said, we all did it. 34 days of liquids for me. Just suck it up and do it. It's temporary and is really minor compared to the more important things in life.

I just want to say good luck. My husband and I had several co-morbidities. I hope you qualify, because it is a shame you have to wait for the co-morbidities to develop before you can get healthy.

I forget if I've posted this here already, but when I asked my surgeon what distinguished those who lose all the weight they need to lose and keep it off vs. those who don't achieve that level of success, he practically shouted with passion: "They never stop being in touch with us and always use all the resources we offer, and they never miss any of their appointments!"
This past Monday (at my last appointment with him pre-op) I had to sign an agreement saying I would keep all my post-surgical appointments at: 1 week, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and annually thereafter ... forever!

RJ when people ask if the cheesburger they ate on day 3 was OK, they are clueless. If one cant handle the truth then they should find somebody to cuddle them and lie to them by telling them everything is OK. Your not going to find much of that in this support group. Most of us are very serious and plan to reach our goals. Before starting this process one should have done their homework and understood this is NOT an easy way out and it takes hard work and dedication to be sucessfull. Being clueless isnt the smart thing to do.

I sleep at night just fine.

I am not one to judge whose path is easier and whose is more difficult. Some of us don't want or need the attention that "complaining" about our own complications might bring. It's extremely unfair and slightly offensive to imply that people who have a "harder road" are kinder or gentler. Just because one doesn't post every detail of their journey doesn't mean it's all been roses and sunshine. Just a thought...

The chances of me changing who I am, mulling over every thought I have before I post it wondering if someone is going to get their feelings hurt because they are hangry/confused/freshly post op and hormonal/on the rag/overwhelmed/have a hangnail/etc. is slim to none.

When I post, it is from my experience and what I've learned along the way. I feel no need to lament endlessly about MY complications, about MY struggles, about MY emotions, because it's not always about ME, it's about the question asked. In turn, my answer is not always about the person asking the question either. Consider all the self confessed lurkers... They are learning from the variety of answers given, too. They are in different phases of experience so my answer may apply more them than the person asking. Who knows?

I am who I am. People like me or they don't. That's ok. The longer you hang around here, the more you get to know the "players" or "cast of characters". Who you tend to gravitate to and who you usually avoid depends on you and your sensitivity level. I'm not wishy washy nor am I a hand holder. I see no need to change that because someone else already plays that part.

RJ, it's clear this thread offends you.
But it's not OK for you to misquote the opening post (by me).
I also wonder if you've confused me with someone else.
FTR, I did NOT say that "people who ask questions are clueless." Nor did I criticize people who post repeated questions. I said:

I further clarified the OP ...

I remember my first 1-2 posts. I remember perceiving someone saying something to me that I felt was negative and hurtful, and I took the wrong way. That person is now someone I adore and admire. Learn from my experience, please.

Linda. You are so kind! We all have something to offer and we all can learn from each other. People sometimes want help. Others want to rant.
Emotions run high. Especially when we don't have our crutch we have used to excess. Food!
I have found nice support and ignored ranters
A nice food tip was the 60 calorie no fat bars offered by the box frozen. At Dairy Queen Would not have ever known that. Certainly not my choice 7 years ago. But now. Life is different and I'm thankful to not fight food everyday'

Just to be clear- I re-read the thread that upset me. It really wasn't that bad.. I think that the problem is that we simply don't know where a persons headspace is at when they are writing their message of help- if someone is in a really bad headspace, by giving constructive criticism someone could be really hurt by the comments... I was really hurt then, but if I saw it now after posting a comment I would not be.
My feeling is that if someone is really new, and just a week or two out of surgery, I would have preferred a gentler hand. Once someone is 2-3 months out, bring on the toughness

All you need is one person to make you feel like you are the bottom of the heap. We have dealt with so much and been through so much that it does not take a lot to bring a patient down.
How many times did we all try and fail at different diets. I would almost say that that is the biggest issue that haunts us all on here. And when mistakes are made do we get the best results by putting people down or by encouraging them to do better..
You catch more flies with honey then vinegar...Same on here!

I don't have experience with the band, and I'm not due to get sleeved until 8/13, but I also have thoughts (and confessed to my husband today), what if I'm the 1% of the population where this surgery does not work. I reminded myself that that is just the talk I have used in my head for the past 456 diets I've been on . . . . because the weight always came back! This is a lifestyle change and that was my problem in the past. I never truly changed my lifestyle. I thought I did, but obviously I did not. I kind of see my life ahead as a road to be traveled--a road with a fork it. One side of the fork has me eating the way I'm eating now but also includes metformin, a statin drug, huffing and puffing walking up hills and general crappy feeling. The other fork has a sleeve surgery, healthy eating, exercise (I loathe it) and feeling well. I think I'm taking the right fork.
I think I just vented . . . and didn't really add to the conversation. Sorry.
