    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

All these docs are so different. Mine said it is okay to use a straw right away...helps to develop your sipping habit.
  2. I used to own two Curves locations. Curves can give a good workout, IF you put lots of energy into it. The resistance is greater the faster you move. Owners should move machines around to vary the workout. Locations with Zumba and the Smart machines give a better workout. If you are a social person who is motivated by getting to know the people you exercise with and like games, conversation , etc it can be a great experience. We even had a Bariatric doc give all his patients a three month membership. However, that said, if you are really looking to stretch yourself and love the idea of intense, challenging exercise...well, that isn't Curves. So, like most everything else...Curves can meet some people's needs...but not everyone's.

    Staples

I was expecting dura bond, but no, staples. When I asked, the surgeon said they feel the staples give a smaller, better scar. They were removed two days later before I was discharged. Steri strips were put on. Just a little owie as they were pulled out.

    Christmas - New Year Challenge

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Today I am 2 pounds under my challenge goal. Caveat...I was pre op when I set the goal, so I was so just guessing. Challenge goal was 248 (from 260). Today, two weeks out from surgery, down 14 to 246. Hooray sleeve! Interested to see how far below this goal I'll get.

    Valentine's Challenge

    I want to participate. Thanks!!!
  6. Ha...I can so relate, although my situation was different since I'm not low BMI. I didn't have to consult with my PCP, so I didn't. Mine is also a pretty new doc for me. Imagine my surprise when I got a call from her office after I had been released from the hospital asking how I was doing and asking me to come in for a post op checkin. I went reluctantly since I felt embarrassed I hadn't talked to her about it. To my surprise, and relief, she was totally supportive and told me one of her good friends had just had a sleeve done...in Mexico! So, yes, this is much more mainstream now. I agree, go with confidence and knowledge. If she isn't good with it, maybe she isn't the PCP for you.
  7. I paid into Medicare my entire life. I am fortunate enough not to be on Medicaid; however, I believe everyone deserves adequate health care. My prior plan didn't cover bariatric surgery...and I am very glad Medicaid and Medicare do. Actually, I now have Aetna Medicare Advantage and it has been great! OP...you work and pay for your insurance because you can! Would you really opt to be on Medicare and need Medicaid to get by? I think not!
  8. I think I already posted hw and sw (265.8 hw; 260 sw 12/10) Current weight is 247.2...almost 13 down since surgery!

    No leak test, no drain?

No drain and no leak test, although a test was done at the end of surgery while I was still "out".

    Christmas - New Year Challenge

I'm at 254.4. Down 6 since 12/10 surgery. Thanks for keeping track of this challenge!
  11. Andrew, my sleeve day friend, so glad you are doing better! And that your sleeve is ok. Continue posting your updates...you have a big group out here sending positive thoughts to you.
  12. Well, I've been able to care for myself just fine after getting home. My husband is here, and would do anything I ask, but figure he is doing well keeping himself fed without my cooking almost everything. Oh...he did put up the clean dishes...pulled my tummy to keep reaching into cupboards. You just need plenty of spoons and glasses...nothing to put on plates for awhile. Bet you will be just fine!
  13. Andrew, how scary. So glad you realized you were in trouble and got help. Please keep us updated on how you're doing...you are in my thoughts!!!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hi I had my surgery with Dr. Seger on the 10th! All went fine, just as expected. Nursing care was excellent (well, the night aides coulda been better but they were tired...do 12 hour shifts). The chair in your room that makes a "bed" is not comfy. Was really glad I brought my extension cord for my phone. Didn't need much else. You might want a comfy pillow from home, but not your favorite in case it gets lost. Was visited by both the doc who is the fellow, dr Seger and Dr Duperier and the NUT plus a very good internist from the hospital. No complaints, drinking well, but ready for full liquids!

    I give up (updates)

I struggled with the Pre Op, too...many of us do. I lost five pounds in two weeks. But, now that I'm post op (just four days) I have ZERO interest in eating. It isn't so much that I can't, it just isn't appealing. I say try your hardest on the pre op, be honest with the NUT and see what happens. Don't totally give up. And keeping active and away from family members eating stuff you really like does help. I remember a few days before surgery my husband asked me to go get him a burger and fries. So, burger and fry smell in the car on the way to where he was...and then he wasn't waiting for me...I had to go find him smelling the burger and fries. Proud to say I didn't sneak even one French fry, but boy did I want to!

    Andrew Post Op

Hi, Andrew I had surgery the same day as you. In general, I feel okay. No interest in broth, food, etc. Just trying to keep drinking enough. I had an elevated temp in the hospital a couple times. They gave me a pneumonia shot and said maybe it was due to that. I also have a stinging, pulling in my lower left side. Maybe it is getting slowly better, but the pain meds don't help it. However, I am able to sleep and move around okay, except for bending over. Ow! I think what we are experiencing day three is pretty normal. Glad you made it through the bad weather okay. Next week will be better!
  17. Hi...anyone want to resurrect this group? Was sleeved on Dec 10th by Dr Seger. Home now after two days in the hospital. Felt well taken care of, but very glad to be home!!!
  18. Have a super day...we are date buddies...although I will be done and recovering by the time you get started. Have a safe drive!

    Post-Op Depression?

You should qualify for free mental health services from your county. Google your county' name with mental health services. As others have said there afoul also be a free crisis hotline. Please do this right away...people are worried for you and we are pretty helpless out here in Internet land. Let us know you are ok, because we are interested in supporting you.
  22. I have been considering it at least four years...maybe more! My date is the 10th, too. Hooray, us!!!
  23. At the risk of sounding crazy..,have you checked out rates on either your state or the national affordable care act website? The insurance would start in January, and perhaps would be more affordable than COBRA. That is assuming you can even get in the site.
  24. Do you ever go to the Wildflower Festival in Richardson? It is in May. My husband and I have gone for the past several years. This year will be at about my six month mark. Oh, yeah! If nothing else maybe breakfast in Dallas on Sunday morning.

What To Do With Leftover Turkey?

I made turkey soup with "good" veggies....it is excellent with enough to freeze a few portions.
