How Long til Back to Work?
My job is physically demanding and I will most likely have to take a month off. I work as a nurses assistant.

Confusion,chaos, and almost a lawsuit!
Good thing this was caught. I have to say as a medical professional( nurses assistant) that it is very important that they ask you a hundred times or more who you are and your date of birth ECT. You should be more irritated and annoyed if they don't. As they take their jobs very serious when they ask these questions, you know you will get the best possible care. Also since it is so ingrained into our minds to ask these things, it becomes a habit. Hope you have a safe and successful surgery!

July 15 surgery date
Good Luck! I'm sure you'll do great! Hoping I get a date soon too.

Lets talk about shoes!
Thanks for the replies ladies. I currently wear a size 8 -8/12 in shoes depending on the style and a 9-10 in sandles and wedges due to my feet being so wide. I can't wear standard size boots becasue I have 18" calves, they arent even flabby. I have pretty muscular legs with barely any jiggle. Sigh, I cant wait until I get a surgery date.

Lets talk about shoes!
Just a question about shoes. Did you lose shoe sizes after weight loss and were you able to wear different kind of shoes now that you weren't able to prior to surgery? I really want to start wearing wedges and heels but my feet, ankles and knees hurt terribly with any shoes higher than 1-2inches.

JULY 2014 Post Op Rny / Bypass Support Group
I'm hoping to get surgery by the end of July. All I have left to do is my one last NUT appointment(I have to have approval from them) June 18 and the Psych eval. I've done the upper GI and lab work. I can't wait to be done with this whole process.

Vitamins
Just have a question about vitamins. I need to time them out and was wondering how you all time out your vitamins? I need to get this into habit so I won't stray once I have surgery. Thanks!

wedding ring...
Funny enough my fingers aren't super chubby. I haven't had surgery yet but I wear a 7-8, I can't imagine what my fingers look like once I lose the weight.

Abdominal Binder & Band to Gastric Bypass
I havent had the revision yet but I used the binder for a few weeks, I had to cut it down when I lost some weight. It helped me keep my muscles tight and brace myself while getting up. I had a 4 year old at the time and she stayed with me the whole time I was at home recovering. I think you will do fine by yourself, I would recommend telling someone you might need help during the day and have their number on hand. Since you will be alone make sure you get all your fluids and protein in. Good luck!

Pure Vain issue.
I am having Surgery soon. I was wondering how much did your breasts shrink?Right now Im a 40 DD, I think I am bigger but for now they fit just fine. I have always thought besides my eyes that my breasts were the best assests of my body. I love my breasts and would not want them to get small. I know this is vain and that it really shouldnt matter but it does to me. Any advice on letting go or experiences on how your breasts changed sizes would be appreciated. Just a little back ground, when I was in HS and about 145 lbs I believe I was between a D and DD cup, not sure on the band size.

Really nervous!
Thanks all. Being that I have 3 children instead of the one when I had the band placed has taken its toll on me as well. My youngest just made 1 this month and I am due to have surgery sometime in July. I am feeling a bit better about this, I'm just ready to take advantage of the quality of life I will have while my children are young. I never had the not hungry feeling with the band, I can't wait for that feeling with the RNY.

Not big enough for WLS?
Not as tall but I have a Bmi of 45 and weight a pound shy of 250. I've had 2 friends tell me I'm not that big and all I need is a little exercise and I'll be able to drop this weight in no time. Little do they know, my knees have started hurting after work I'm only 29, a few years ago I did modified P90x for 6 weeks and never lost a single pound. I'm sick and tired of being as big as I am and I would love to one day do us modified P90x without feeling like I'm about to die.

A New WLS Procedure From Mayo Clinic
I wonder how they figure that scar tissue wouldn't make it difficult to readjust afterwards. What about all the gastric acid? I live in MN and in most ways am very grateful to have the Mayo clinic in my backyard.

Really nervous!
Hi, All. I have the lap band placed 2009, 10cc. I had very minimal weight loss even though I was doing everything I was supposed to do. I only lost 23 lbs in the 5 months it was working for me. Having 2 children in that span has not done my body well, especially my last child since I was sick with him for the first half of my pregnancy, seriously vomitting at least once a day until 25 weeks pregnant, then have it return at 9 months pregnant. Since I have had him, I had increased problems with my band and am now in the works of getting the RNY. I am seriously scared out of my mind, the original reason for me to get the lap band was the fact that my intestines would stay right where they were made. My Dr. who I trust completely says it would be best to go with the RNY and not the sleeve. Just looking for some words of incouragement as I know there really is no turning back once I have this done. I am going foward with it as I have started to develop some knee discomforts and would rather not have to have my knees replaced before I become elderly.

what is the real reason I became obese?
I think, although I havent gone into great therapy to discuss this, I had a host of problems in my childhood that helped contribute to me being obese. I was also like Leann 71 abused as a young child for 4 years, I took courage and told my mom. She has self esteem issues within herself as well and a year after the abuser went to jail and was then released, she let him back in the house with me(unsupervised). I was also bullied as a child in many forms, I was sensitive, quick to cry, and very socially ackward(still am to some degree). I didn't have a father figure in my life and I think all these things combined with hormonal changes with using birth control put my body over the edge. I also internalize a lot of stress, gulit, and other various things until I almost have a panic attack or begin to shut down emotionally. Honestly I am a wreak!

Recently Lost a Best Friend Because of My Decision to Get Bariatric Surgery
I'm sure it has been stated over and over again, your friend is missing the point on why people do this surgery. Yes many people can and do lose weight the old fashioned way but many regain the weight and stay on a vicious cycle for the rest of their lives. I do not want to stay on that wheel any longer. I feel for your friend only in her having an eating disorder that pretty much destroyed her life, I have no idea how long you have been friends( I have not read through the whole 10 pages yet) but if you were at the time she was going through her eating disorder is it pretty sad she can not be there for you. My mom and sister and I are over weight in various stages, my mom has recently lost almost 100lbs to date (yay!). What made her though was a heart attack 99% blocked widow maker in 2 places of her heart, this was after having a stroke and diabetes. I am not going the route of my mother, she was also a serial dieter, this is my way of nearly ensuring prevention of all of those diseases. I hope your friend will eventually see the light and I hope you will in time forgive her wrong doings.

PLEASE tell me my boobs will shrink
I'm a 40DDD. I hope I don't lose much in the breast department. Before my weight gain I think I was a 36 C\D cup. I'm not certain since I never measured before. My family is well endowed for the most part so maybe mine is genetically okay.

My sleeve surgery date is Jan 29 2014
Good luck to you. I should hopefully get a date sometime in Jan. I had lap band 2009. I lost 30lbs and gained back plus 10. Hopefully this is the last winter Holiday we will be big. Message me if you need encouragement since I'm in the same boat as you although a little behind you.

Yes, I had WLS and YES, I *AM* doing this on my own.
I just flipped through a people's magazine from 8/13 and it was about some people who lost 100+ pounds and in the title is said no surgery and no gimmicks. I didn't know surgery was considered a gimmick or joke in their eyes. I've been through surgery for lap band and will now be getting the sleeve. I'm scared sh*tless to say the least but I know that this will be the best for me. I know that this will be the last holiday that I will feel miserable because I'm so big and look horrible in everything I wear. This will be the last year that I don't go out and play with my kids in the snow. This will be the last year that my body hurts from the weight I am. Good post and I was just thinking about making one of these posts myself.

Found an interesting Blog
Thank you all for your input and for making this post so informative. It definately is something that everyone needs to think about before they commit to surgery. If we feel she is crazy or not it had everyone thinking in one way or another. That is the great thing about debating or peacefully disagreeing.

Found an interesting Blog
I only found it interesting in her obvious hate of all WLS. Even when a woman mentioned her mother getting one done in the 80's and how her mom is doing awesome and is really active with her grandchildren, she still had some hateful things to say. Didnt even congradulate the woman's mom on her sustained weight loss. I was just wondering if she was being a fear monger and if any of her "facts" were true for some who have been out longer than a year.

Found an interesting Blog
Let me make this clear that I in no way believe the hype she's protraying. I just found her to be extremely angry and vengeful and wanted some insight. I am still going to get the surgery. I just wanted to verify how quacky she seems without me immediately saying so. I have a friend who has gone from 389 to 179 and has kept it off for 4 years with none of the problems this woman has stated.
