  1. My surgery date is Monday. To be honest I wasn't worried, I've had a c section and the pain wasn't bad. I had one shot of pain meds post op, made me sick so no more. Figured laparoscopic surgery should be a breeze right? I mean if it's not horrible to take an 7 lb baby through a 6 inch incision how awful can a couple small incisions be? Then I started reading these boards and most people complain of significant pain. Still not overly worried until I found out about the morphine PCA and picked up the two huge bottles of liquid hydrocodone for post op. How awful must this be to get all this pain medicine? Not that I'm going to change my mind but I'd like to know what I'm in for. So tell me post op peeps, how bad is it, 1-10 scale?

It varies depending on your tolerance for pain and if you're having other things repaired as well. For instance, I had a hiatal hernia repaired as well as VSG. My pain waking up was a 9, but I have a very low tolerance for pain. The night after I was taken off the pain pump was difficult but as I was weaning off , it got better. At home I was prescribed Roxicet and I used it as needed, mainly for soreness or pain from incision site where my drain tube was. Hopefully you won't experience any pain. Good luck :)

  2. 10 lbs down since 2 week liquid diet (started 11/20), 8 lbs down from surgery on 12/3/13. Total = 18 lbs Hw: 319 SW: 309 CW: 301.4 GW: 170 This is the first time I've been completely honest and open about how much I actually weigh. I have to admit, it feels great :)

Per my doctor weighed in at 296 from 319. I've lost an additional 5 lbs. total : 23lbs down, 13 since surgery on Dec 3rd. :) Hope everyone else is doing well.

I had a few breakdowns in the past week but i can definitely feel my body healing, and you will too!! hang in there everyone!

I am a Dec 3rd sleever as well. My doctor uses a drain tube but it was removed yesterday. I feel soooo much better now and allowed to exercise and move on to the next phase :) I have to admit it was a little tough but I'm glad I did it. I've lost 23 lbs, 13 since surgery, my Dr. was happy.

  5. I'm a December 3rd sleever and I probably could have easily went back to work today, but I took two weeks off and plan to use it. Although I feel great I do think I would be exhausted working all day at this point. Good luck to those going back to the grind this week!

I'm not up to it. I'm still a little sore and wouldn't have been able to sit at a desk for 8 hrs +. I will be going back Mon 12/16/13. I still have a drain that will be removed Wed 12/11.

  8. Yesterday was rough not gonna lie! Hurts to sip Water hopefully that will go away??? Starting Protein Shakes today and possible released from hospital this afternoon. Has anyone had problems with it hurting to sip?

I had this issue as well. I mixed some Gatorade & water or apple juice & water and was able to sip those a lot better than plain water. My doctor just urged me to keep trying. I made sure I was sitting straight up and walked a little to help it go down. Gas-x strips also helped with excess gas inside while trying to squeeze liquid in as well. It's much better for me, surgery was on Tues 12/3/13 , but it's still a work in progress. Hope it's gotten much better for you :)

  9. My surgery was Tuesday 12/3. I ended up staying a second night, which I'm glad I did. I was feeling very sore and I had a lot of gas pain /incision pain but that is getting better as I am now getting out of bed and walking. I slept a lot yesterday. I am now back at home still feeling sore but glad to be back home. Hope everyone is recovering well and good luck to all the up coming sleevers

  10. I am staying another night too. I want to make sure my pain is manageable on po meds. My right side hurts the most too. Doc sats its where they pull the stomach out and there are some internal stitching. The nurse told me most people stay 2 nights its rare to go home after one day. On a funny note, anyone do anything crazy on versed before the surgery? i apparently held my hands up and screamed "wooo im on a rollercoaster!!" while being wheeled to or. I also told my sister i thought i was drunk. Lol! anyone else?

  12. Let's stay in touch for sure! dde2c I met with my surgeon on Monday for the final pre-op meeting and now I'm even more excited. I'm not so excited about the shakes. I'm starting to get very very sick of them - blech. I keep telling myself this is temporary so I need to just "Suck It Up". I hope you are doing well with your pre-op. December 3rd will be here soon!

We surely can :) I had my pre-op with my surgeon on Nov 18th and did a pre-assessment/registration with the hospital on this past Wed Nov 27th. Only thing left is to just have the surgery. I completely understand what you mean about the shakes. I now can only drink GNC lean shakes, the vanilla bean one specifically. I put it in the freezer for a little while and it almost tastes as good as a Starbucks Vanilla Bean frappe lol I hope you're ready Dec 3rd is right around the corner :)

  13. I got the call yesterday that surgery was approved!! I officially started my process on August 5 -- my 13th wedding anniversary -- when I completed my Weight Loss Surgery Seminar online and met for a face-to-face with the surgeon. At 267 at 5'7", my BMI was around 41, so I was an "automatic" approval, even with no weight-related comorbidities. My insurance, Cigna, still required the 3-month monitored diet (along with a few other minor hoops), which is 4 total nutrition visits. I saw the NUT about a week after I saw the surgeon, then about every three to four weeks, so not 30 days apart, but at least once per calendar month (so mid-August, early September, October, and November). Because we were on such a controlled time-frame, and because I (and everyone else on Earth!) was working to get in before the end of the year, the NUT told me in October that she would have the Insurance Coordinator prepare my packet for insurance submission. All of my other appointments had been done and reports were on hand, so all that was missing was the final NUT notes. She would attach those after my visit on 11/05/13 and submit to insurance same day. After that class, she looked at a sticky note on my folder, and told me my packet was submitted to insurance on 10/31, nearly a week before my final NUT class. She said my notes would go over as an attachment. I was super concerned that the submission to insurance before meeting the minimum requirements would cause a denial and delay, particularly after I returned home to a letter from Cigna requesting more information. There was a little back-and-forth with the Insurance Coordinator on 11/06 as she got to the bottom of the letter (standard auto-generated form letter, as it turns out). Then yesterday, she called to tell me I'd been approved, and scheduled surgery for 12/03/13. Hooray!! So, that was one week from early packet submission, or one day from packet completion. Very, very quick either way! My pre-op NUT meeting and nurse visit are 11/14, and I start my pre-op diet 11/19. I know it's not all liquid, but I'm not sure what it is. My doctor's office seems to be big on getting back to real food ASAP post-op, so I imagine pre-op is just some kind of very low carb diet. This process has been shockingly easy. So easy, I can hardly bring myself to believe it's truly happening! I've been looking at bariatric surgery for over 14 years, and the sleeve in particular over two. I am honestly blown away that my day is coming -- that it's an actual date in my planner, and no longer some kind-of far off, abstract idea.

Congratulations, my surgery is the same day as well. Tuesday, 12/3/13
