Great topic for me to observe, since I may be at the point of a "clean up on aisle 5" with the belly bag and such. I am starting to research this subject, and I do agree that the full Tummy Tuck is the way to go for me, with some Lipo on the new man-boobs as well (might as well look good AND feel good).
Thanks to all of you for the honest info and feedback.

BigDog Bryan got a reaction from CerasDream in Regretting the sleeve so much and afraid I will die or have serious problems down the road
First, Calm down PLEASE. It's been only 2 weeks, and you are still healing internally (it takes 6-8 weeks to fully heal from the surgery). Right now it's real work just to drink enough Protein each day and get your daily Vitamins and supplements in (Not doing so will cause REAL health problems, so be vigilant)
Second, the hormone that was removed was NOT Human Growth Hormone, but Ghrelin, which governs your feelings of hunger. You will now age FAR more gracefully since your body will not be working overtime to carry extra weight going forward - your knees and hips are writing you a Thank You note right now!
Third, Gastric Sleeve removes Excess stomach but keeps your digestive tract in place and fully functioning. A Bypass would have reshaped your stomach and reroutes a piece of your small intestines. Your internet research got it backwards.
Fourth, as far as I have been able to determine, Sleeve surgery will NOT prevent you from having children. Just make sure that your GYN and your General Doctor are aware of your surgery before you try to have kids.
Fifth, your weight loss will be quick, yes, but not instant. Let your body heal, and your mind adjust to your new stomach. Don't lose your mind when you finally get to solid foods and you suddenly find that there are foods that you just don't like anymore or can't tolerate (Rice, Salami, and pizza in my case). My life isn't over, and I have discovered Salmon!
Remember that so many people on this forum wish that they had acted sooner for one simple reason - The Surgery WORKS. You are to be admired for your courage and decisiveness to reclaim your health BEFORE serious issues (that could have prevented a future pregnancy, for sure) became a part of your daily routine. Look for a Support Group in your area and talk to your Surgeon and Nutritionist. Again I say BRAVO to you for reclaiming your health and making the rest of your life a LOT better than it looked a few weeks ago!!!!

BigDog Bryan got a reaction from Bhageerah in Sleeve VS RNY (Any advice welcome!)
I chose the sleeve as the right choice for me. This is a VERY personal choice, and you need to look at what are the important things to YOU. The sleeve and RNY will both get you to within sniffing distance of your goal weight, but the difference in this aspect is time to goal. The RNY is faster to goal, the Sleeve will still get you there - one takes 1-2 years, the other 1.5-4 in most cases.
The RNY reroutes your digestive tract, so there will be malabsorption that can cause problems with certain medications and supplements. The Sleeve leaves your digestive tract in place and in use, so there is less of an issue on this front. This was the main reason that I chose the Sleeve - it was what I Wanted to do. I have lost a substantial amount (from a 5X to a 2X shirt, from a 53 to a 37 waist) in the last 2 years (Surgiversary is 10/21) and I am making the additional changes to finish the job (XL shirt and a 34 waist is the Goal). I am VERY happy with my decision, and You need to be Happy with yours!!!

BigDog Bryan got a reaction from RockDaisy in why did i bother to tell my friends UGH
I have said this in another thread - and it still holds true. Tell people to Inform them, NOT to Affirm you. This is an individual choice and an individual journey. Courage should be embraced and admired - as many testimonials on this site can attest.
The people who don't want you to be happier and healthier are people that you don't need in the long run anyway. If it wasn't your surgery, it would be something else that would have caused them to move on. Either way, You are the better for the decision You have made - BRAVO!!

BigDog Bryan got a reaction from OperaMom in Day after surgery day I'm hungry, is this normal?
I did the Liquid pre-op (except for the Wedding Reception 4 days before) and could not think about eating for days after Surgery. I was not hungry at all, but I did miss chewing something in the worst way. The advice concerning Acid levels and Ketosis are also VERY well stated - and checking these is a request that it seems you should consider.
Remember that your journey is Just Starting. Your head can wander in all sorts of directions, so keep your eyes on the prize! It's not the changes in the next week, but the next year that truly matter. NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF!!! You had the courage to go through with the surgery, so you DO have the courage to go through the recovery!

BigDog Bryan got a reaction from sleevedshereen in Stalls, stalls, stalls
One of the crazy things that can happen during a Stall (Absolutely my experience Each time) is that your body will shrink, even if the scale is frozen. I had a 5-week stall happen at about 4 months, but dropped 2 pant sizes over that time. As my loss has naturally slowed down, I continue to lose inches (waistline moved from a 52 in September, 2015 to a 36 as of August of 2017).
Embrace the Stall, for sure. Also - Look for your Other Victories along the way.

    God Bless

I will make a note on the Al Roker quote - that is simply where I first heard it. BTW "I pooped my pants" can only be attributed to Al if you include the rest of the sentence - "I pooped my pants.....in the White House" - Al Roker

Stalls are part of the process. A sleeve is like stair steps down with landings you rest on for a bit. I was a very slow loser; it took 17 months to reach my initial goal with several 3, 6 and a 9 week stall on the way. It's not a race, it's a process. Frustrating at times, but ultimately leading to goal and success.

We simply won't lose every day or week. But we can lose sizes or inches when the scale isn't budging. And in the end, getting to goal and maintaining your good habits and staying there will be far more important than how quickly you got there. We want results early on, we're anxious for them, because we're making huge changes in our lifestyle. Your body will catch up. You will lose. But it's not going to happen in a straight line or at an even pace.

Good luck and congrats on your loss thus far. Cement your habits in the loss phase and work on eliminating behaviors that will compromise maintenance later, like emotional eating and grazing. This is far more important than your rate of loss. Trust me.
