calicakes got a reaction from GradyCat in Joining Weight Watchers after Gastric Sleeve surgery.
I had surgery on Nov 19th. The weight just fell off during the first 4 weeks because I wasn't hungry at all. As soon as I hit 4 weeks, my appetite and cravings came back. I'm 7 weeks out tomorrow and I haven't lost anything in 2 weeks. I am tracking my food on sparkpeople and I am not eating over 1100 calories a day. I'm not exercising as much as I should and that could be part of the problem. I got a 50% offer off the monthly pass for 6 months from WW. So, I'm thinking of joining for the accountability, meetings and honestly, I'd love to attain lifetime status considering how many times in the past Ive joined WW. What do you all think?

Well, I joined but haven't been following because the following day( after I joined), I ended up in the ER with Kidney stones. I barely have an appetite, am doped on on painkillers, waiting for the stone to pass. The only thing I could handle for dinner was toast. I know, not good, but I cant stomach Protein right now.
Regarding the 1100 calories, I usually eat one low carb tortilla, 1 egg, 2 turkey sausage, `1 slice 2% cheese for breakfast). I don't finish the entire thing. I drink 1 iced coffee( sugar free Syrup, 4tbls of half and half). I eat almost an entire lean cuisine for lunch. I eat the Protein first, then some of the rice/pasta and veg. For dinner, I eat chicken or fish, salad and maybe some veg. I have a Premier Protein ready to drink shake in the afternoon. Sometimes, if I am hungry, I have a balance bar. That equals about 1000-1100 calories. I don't think I am eating a lot of food. It sure doesn't feel like a lot.
When the stone passes, I am going back to the gym and going to limit my carbs. WW has a new plan, you don't count points, just focus on lean protein, low-fat dairy, veg, fruit and whole grains. I am going to follow my Dr's plan, however I am going to use the meetings for support and to keep track of my weight loss.

Hey, OP here. Congrats to everyone. I lost the majority of my weight while on WW. I rejoined again 1 week before Covid hit( March 2020). I was so stressed and depressed that I put on 10lbs. I've lost it since and even more. I started at 290, I'm now 185. I haven't reached " goal weight" since my sugery, but I'm ok with it. I'd like to lose 20 more, and I hope I do. I'm not obsessed with it. WW makes me too obsessed, counting points, worried about my next meal. Now I try to practice intuitive eating.

I'm the author of this thread. I did join WW and lost about 30lbs, but I also joined diet bet and won some money too. I had my sleeve surgery 4yrs ago and have kept off 100lbs. I would like to lose 30 more, so I was considering re-joining WW, but just following the program. THere is an app called Itrackbites.com that is pretty much WW with a much lower fee( I think 3 dollars). No one at WW ever flagged me for losing too fast.

Amazon.com carries a ton of different Protein powders. I ordered the FitFrappe( by Big Train). I ordered directly from their website, but its cheaper on Amazon. I make it in the blender with ice and Water and it tastes like a frappacino. 20g of Protein for a shake and its takes awhile to drink.

Very sweet. My wife has never had a weight problem and as always been very athletic. She's been very supportive( I'm 2yrs out). She even refused to eat in front of me in my early days, but I had zero desire to eat so I told her to go ahead. She does not have a big appetite now so the majority of the time we go out, we end up sharing an entree.

Exactly, its a TOOL. Its up to us to do the work. Last night I attended a YELP Elite event, basically a multi-course free meal. I was full after the first course, yet I continued to eat and eat. I didnt even make it home, I had to ask my wife to pull off the freeway so I could vomit. I have not thrown up for over a year( maybe more like 18 months). I kept eating even though I was full. I seriously do not think I can attend any of those types of events ever again.

My surgery was Nov 19, 2013. I never got down to "goal" either. I started at 269, lost 11lbs on the 2 week liquid diet before surgery. The lowest I got was 211.6 and this morning I was 214.6. I would LOVE to be under 200lbs, but I seriously think its my lack of exercise. I still get really full fast, but I also snack which I never did in the active losing phase. Its still a struggle, but I need to remember that I was on an insulin pump before surgery and I take no insulin now, even though I'm still considered a diabetic. I also take 2 less medications than I did before surgery. I have psoriatic arthritis and that has slightly improved with weight loss. Its auto-immune so it will never go away.
On another note, my 35lb dog slipped a disk in his back and now needs to be carried up and down 2 flights of stairs. It amazes me that I used to carry double his weight up the stairs. I don't know how I did it.

I eat half a whole wheat English muffin or 1 slice of bread. If its a roll, I pull out all the fluffy inside. Same with a bagel, I pull out all the insides and eat just half. Everything in moderation.

Hey all, I'm 8 days post op and starting stage 6 pureed foods. I'm partnered for 13 years now and we adopted our doggie Jackson in May. Jackson was essential to my pre op weight loss this summer, Jackson and I walked at the beach, around town every single day for miles and miles and the weight just came off. I lost 66 lbs from May to the weigh in the morning of surgery. I am very pleased to have found an LGBT section on this incredible site.

    Hey Y'all!
I had my 6 week checkup on Thursday - I can now eat anything I want! I'm not really hungry. When I do eat, I eat small amounts. For example, this morning Breakfast was a scrambled egg, 1/4 of a banana and 1 slice of a whole wheat bagel thin. lunch was a cottage cheese/fruit double (they have 1/4 cup of cottage cheese and a small amount fruit) and the other half of the bagel thin with Peanut Butter. dinner will be 3 to 4 ounces of baked salmon and roasted carrots.
My checkup was good. My surgeon is very pleased with my progress. I have lost 38 pounds so far. My incisions have healed nicely. He expects me to continue to loose weight slow and steady.
    NSVs:
    1) I am Type 2 Diabetic but have not been on any medication since the day before my surgery. My blood sugar numbers range from the 80's to the 130's. Occasionally, I have a number in the 140's but not normally. I've had two episodes of low blood sugar - 66 both times. I just ate something and felt much better with blood sugars back to normal shortly thereafter. I was also on the lowest dose of high blood pressure medicine and now I have to cut that pill in half. I should be off of that medicine at my 3 month checkup - hopefully.
    2) Three years ago I bought a pair of Michael Kors jeans, size 20. They were on the clearance rack - regularly $125, after discounts and coupons I paid $12 for them. That's why I bought them then - something I would never spend that much money on but it didn't matter at the time of purchase that I couldn't wear them. I planned on getting into them some day. I've worn a size 24 (and 3x/4x) for the past 5 years. I was able to wear my Michael Kors jeans to a get together with friends on December 14! And - they were loose!
    3) I went shopping yesterday and bought a size 18 skirt and a 2x top!
    4) My husband keeps telling me how small I'm getting and that my face is getting thin.
    5) I got a beautiful watch for Christmas and it didn't have to have any extra links added! As a matter of fact, it's loose.
    6) I went out to dinner with friends and ordered my salad to take home and brought home 3/4 of my entrée. I had my salad to go because I didn't want to fill up on veggies first - I want to make sure I get my Protein in first and foremost.
    7) My husband and I had pizza for dinner the other night. I ate the 1/2 the topping (pepperoni and cheese) from 1 slice and that was it - no crust.
    8) My dress shoes (heels) feel loose on my feet.
    9) I'm back into my honeymoon jeans (14 years old) and they are getting loose!
For those of you who are just starting out - know that this is a serious, life changing surgery. I have diarrhea more than I used to. I get full very fast. If I eat too much I get the foamies but haven't thrown up. It's just uncomfortable and a yucky feeling in my mouth. You can feel the difference in your stomach - it doesn't feel or act the same - ever again. But, that being said, I wouldn't have believed that I have lost 38 pounds in 8 weeks (including the 2 week pre-op diet) and will continue to loose slow and steady. I would do it again. The first two weeks suck. Your body is healing, you can't get your fluids or Proteins in and you don't feel like yourself. the next 4 weeks the mushy stage becomes boring, but, I will say, refried Beans have never tasted so good!
So - congratulations to those who are on the journey and good luck to those who have made the decision!
Remember - Life IS good. Enjoy and give thanks.
    ~Susan.
